Everything you have read so far about this site is correct we arrived on a sunny day in late may the next 3 days we had torrential rain but hey that's what happens in mountains! The weather remained good and bad for the next week and a half! But the facilities drainage sorry dings are amazing! If you want comfort, friendly people, nature, this is the site for you! Don't come on Tuesday as this is market day in the nearby town of Argelles well worth a visit, Argelles also has a large Carrefor supermarket with petrol station to provide all you will need but the small shop on site and bread/croissoints available at reception will assist with your needs. This is possibly one of the best sites in Europe and well worth a visit or two!

We arrived on the Wednesday and the site had had 4 cm of snow on it up until the previous Saturday, yet the grass was being mown, the flower beds tended and the pitches had all drained and were in good condition.
The other reviews all sing the praises of this site, and we met the ADAC site inspector who said they had the best sanitaires in the whole of the Midi Pyrennees - and you don't argue with German campsite inspectors.
The site is peaceful, tranquil and a haven for birdwatchers
The little 'hypermarket' had a remarkably comprehensive range of products at price near to or sometimes better than the supermarket in Argeles-Gazost.
Very good value is given by the set meal on Friday - Aperatives, 4 courses and a carafe of for 12 euros.
The walks around are wonderful, if somewhat exhausting for wrinklies like us. The road up to the Lake is a bit hairy in the car but worth the effort. Cycling seemed ideal for Tour de France trainees but not for mere mortals.
The site is a wonderful base for exploring the wilder and less touristy part of the Pyrennees.
Everyone should visit this site once, if only to see what a gold standard really looks like. Although it has no pool, disco or frenetic children's entertainer
Fuel is available at the large Carrefour in Argeles, about 4 miles away, all downhill.

Took ferry from Plymouth to Santander and after staying at another site on the coast, headed here for five nights. Fabulous, one of the best, if not the best we have ever stayed at. Motor home pitch excellent, staff amazing, location first class, food terrific. Nothing was too much trouble. Perfect site for a very peaceful break. Will definitely be back. Met some lovely lovely people. Views spectacular with a stunning lake up the road.

This is a really pretty site high up in the Pyrenees and very popular with Brits. The owners go out of their way to make it look attractive, with flower beds and regular grass cutting. There is a lot of wildlife to see and hear in the site itself with cowbells and lots of birds around.
A couple of miles further up the valley is the beautiful lake at Estaing with picnic or cafe facilities and lovely walks. Wild ponies wander around the picnic area which most people seem to enjoy - unless they steal your picnic!
We stayed at the site for 3 nights and were a bit disappointed at not being able to use our awning - the owners didn't want the grass to spoil.
The shower, toilet, washing facilities were all good and very clean. The site provides chess, draughts, bowls, table tennis, books, games and a sauna but it lacks a swimming pool. Limited food is available, eg pizza & chips one night.
All in all the site was great for a relaxing and chilled out few days.

I hired a mobile home for 6 nights in April. The site owners are very friendly and helpful, I ordered a baguette every morning you can also get croissants. They've also got a small shop on site which stocks the essentials and there is a bar in the main building which also has books to borrow and a pool table and other games.
The site is very clean and there is also a jacuzzi and sauna on site which was available to book and was excellent after a hard days cycling and walking.
The location is brilliant, you can ride up some of the 'Tour de France' Cols direct from the campsite without having to use your car. Also the walking routes from the campsite were great, the only problem I experienced was because I was early in the season the higher up routes had lots of snow but this was expected.
You can see vultures and golden eagles circling above the campsite and the views of the mountains were excellent. The mobile homes were clean and modern. I would like to return for another visit.

This is a beautiful campsite - the grounds are immaculate, the sanitaires are first class, modern and very clean. It is a MUST to visit. A very warm welcome from the dutch/french owners. You can even have a sauna, hot tub and solarium on site if you wish! You can play giant sized draughts, connect four and chess as well as the usual petanque! The lac d'estaing is about 4kms up hill - a great achievement on a bike and definitely worth it - the lake is amazing. There is an honesty shop on site but we recommend you shop beforehand as there is nothing in the village. Dont let this put you off - the drive there is narrow (breathe in!) and take care with a caravan. There are resident chickens (v hairy feet!) a stream over the road and a small pond on site. Walks galore of all levels and a lot of birds to see and feed! There is a bar, a library and pool table etc all housed inside and above reception - the building is beautiful.

Arrived and pitched in the rain and could not see beyond the end of the road. However, the next day the weather cleared and we had the most spectacular week. The site is excellent, facilities great and staff very helpful. There is a lot for kids to do on the site and the oval roadway around the site served as the perfect training track for both our girls (4 and 6) to master riding without stabilisers.
The little shop is fab and the bar service for frittes and bread in the morning is useful.
There is loads to do and with good weather Lac du Estaing is fabulous.
All in all a great site, with great facilities, great views and if you get the weather it cannot be faulted.

What a fantastic site as previous review route is best through bun than route on sat nav.
Owners are very friendly and helpful some lovely touches on site like mist spray on garden seat if it gets to hot also sauna on site and beds to relax on to get heat into your muscles after a hard days walking, toilet block unisex but very clean only fault is no toilet seats but this is the case in most French campsites can't wait to go back.
Scenery around the site is stunning nice walk up to lac estaing a big lake with wild horses around it.

One of the nicest sites we have ever visited.
Do not follow your satnav. Follow the route Lourds - Argeles-Gazost - Bun - Estaing. The satnav takes you via a very difficult village. If you follow the Caravan club route (as above) then you will be fine. It is tight in places, but very doable and worth the effort.
Set in the valley of the Estaing river as it winds its way to Lac d'Estaing. Very friendly hosts. Reasonably sized pitches some chalets. Well marked out. 2 lovely toilet blocks - immaculately clean. Everything you need.
Small honesty shop in an old small water mill, with small river still running under it. Just pay at reception.
Good take away food and pleasant bar area. Well stocked library. Order bread the day before. Pascal bakes it himself every morning.
The site is incredibly well maintained. There was hardly a blade of grass out of place, allowing for the post summer season of ground sheet damage. Flowers everywhere, beautifully pruned shrubs. It felt more like staying in their garden than a campsite.
The views down the valley from the site in both directions is simply stunning. Lots to see and do in the area.
We were sad to have to leave and cannot recommend it highly enough.
You must book for the peak periods - we were fine in Sept, but the site was still fairly busy.
Only moan was the cost of wifi. 2 euro for 1/2 hour and it was slow. No pool might also put some off, but there is a public open air one across the road.
Getting there is a long way, whichever route you take, but worth it. The views are stunning.

A very pretty site with lots of greenery. Lovely views. Spotless facilities. Owners friendly and helpful.
A good mix of ages on site but mainly couples and younger families. Not for those looking for a lively holiday as site focuses more on the natural beauty of the area and low-key entertainment - large outdoor chess game, table tennis, outdoor telescope etc. A very informative presentation is given by one of the owners a couple of times a week giving information on walks in the area.
The surrounding area is stunning. Beautiful lake about a mile away. The Cirque du Gavarnie is about 35 km away and the Col D'abisque and Tourmalet all a fantastic drive away. Walks throughout to suit hikers/strollers of all levels.
Nearest supermarket about 10 miles away in Argeles Gazost although honesty shop provides some basics.
One thing for dog owners to note: Dogs are not allowed in the National Parks. This did not curtail our holiday as we are low level strollers rather than serious hikers but prohibited areas tended to be higher up. Although the Cirque du Gavarnie is in the National Park dogs are tolerated on a lead as far as up to the Hotel (takes about an hour to walk) - sufficient for us. They were not allowed at the Pont Espagne.
Loved the area, loved the site. Would return.
