One of our favourite sites and overall its pretty much as good as when we visited several years ago.
Facilities are always clean, plenty of hot water and good pressure in the showers. We didn't use the Bistro - open from breakfast to to mid evening - but other campers told us it was very good.
We had a pitch down by the water, there is now a fresh water tap down there and the pitches have electric. Would say the pitches are fairly tight - enough room on the hardstanding for a motorhome or caravan, between each pitch is a grass strip approx 6 ft wide.
You aren't asked to park in any particular way so some parking forward and some reverse in - on top of which there two units with full awnings (both of which had there doors on the right and this meant the awning were literally a foot from the next vans habitation door). Because of this one small caravan turned his van around and another asked to move pitches to the higher pitches by the road (which also have electric and water).
Other than this its still a wonderful site, there cannot be many better places to sit and watch the world pass by. We were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins swim just off the shore one morning, and then another late in the afternoon.
We cycled down to Portnahaven, if you go on a Wednesday visit the church for amazing cakes and a cuppa - they ask for a donation for church funds.
Love the site and will visit again, will try and book one of the larger marked out pitches at the top which still have great views.

Just spent the last 2 weeks at this great site. It was our first visit to Islay the views from the site are great. The warden is very friendly and made us feel welcome the showers are lovely and hot with facilities being spotless. Will be returning to site in future.
The local hotel bars are good we did not eat in them so can’t comment on food. We ate in the van buying a lobster and scallops from local seafood dealers at Port Ellen.
Coop at Bowmore is well stocked so is the whiskey shop.

A beautiful site on a lovely island. We had booked well in advance and got one of the 10 hard-standing sites almost at the edge of the sea loch. Great ! (Apart from when the wind is very strong !). Our pitch was not that level though. Free and efficient wifi in the comfortable café, where you can also have coffees, snacks and burgers. There is a big camping field, too, which was well used with tents. Local teenagers made good use of the football field, the whole place has a nice feel of community centre, sports club and campsite combined. The toilet and shower block is clean and fine, except that several of the ladies' loos were out of order one day, but this was quickly fixed. The dishwashing area is not well thought out, since one of the two sinks is in the way of a mobile phone charging terminal and a laundry machine, so it is hard to use it when the room is crowded, creating a crush around it. And 2 sinks aren't really enough for the site when it is full. There is a grey water disposal place which is a bit hard to find and awkward to access. There is a nice protected path going the half mile or so into the village, where there are 2 pubs, a post office cum shop, an interesting museum of island life, and a nature centre. There is lots of wildlife to see here, and all around the island.

What a wonderful site. Having arrived without a booking, we were accommodated on pitch 11 - not a seafront pitch, but with a fantastic open view of the sea due to the (very well manicured) local football pitch between us and the seafront pitches. When the wind got up in the night, we were glad to be a little more sheltered. The site is quiet but not remote - the community centre facilities give the chance to socialise, and there is a paved path running to nearby Port Charlotte. We don't have children, but for those who do there is a large playground full of things to do. James and Jamie (warden and assistant) were both really friendly and, thanks to Jamie's advice, we found lots of good wildlife spots and were privileged to see golden eagle and hen harrier in addition to the more common wildlife. The pitch was on grass but drained well and there was never a problem even though there had been heavy rain the day we arrived; the facilities were clean and warm, and the whole site very well kept. We enjoyed it so much we ended up staying nine nights.

The earlier reviews say it all. Friendly and helpful staff and good value for money. A cafe on site the serves good fast food, if you want it. We were fortunate to get on the site. The pitch we were given, had been occupied by a tent until the night before, and was destroyed by a storm. All other pitches had been booked months before, so if the storm had not occurred, we would not have been able to get onto the site. BE WARNED. Make sure you book site and ferry at the same time. We heard of people booking the site early in the year, and not being able to book a ferry crossing in the weeks before their holiday. The problem was compounded by one of the CalMac ferries being in dry dock. We had booked our crossing early, but were transferred to Stand Bye after one of the ferries broke down!
Certainly a site to stay on.

The only site to stay on if you are visiting Islay. As other reviews have said, this site is a good as the other is terrible.
Easy access for larger outfits. Super warm and friendly welcome from the helpful warden Jamie who gave a small tour of the facilities and even offered to help set up! I didn't try the cafe on site but it was open till 8. 30pm so handy if you don't want to cook.
2016 price for a one person in a caravan was £11 including EHU - superb value!
Facilities were scrupulously clean, showers are of the 'changing room' type with communal changing areas. I showered before bed and had the place to myself. Lovely little walk for the dog down to the beach next to the site, or a big field over the road (no sheep during our stay) for games of ball.
Just be aware that the seafront pitches (STUNNING views) are on the compact side (no awnings, car to be parked behind caravan' and it's a wee walk to the facility block from these pitches.
If I return to Islay, I will definitely stay here again and would strongly recommend it to anyone.

This site is located just a couple of minutes walk from the sea and has excellent views. The pitches are not large but they are adequate. Showers are good and each one has its own cubicle but the changing area is communal. There is a dish washing area and washer/drier for clothes. Located within walking distance of village with small shop, pub and restaurant. There is an area next to the sea for dog walking but they can also be walked on the site.

Fantastic, friendly site in a beautiful location next to the sea loch. The facilities are the sports centre's toilets and showers (individual curtained showers but communal changing room) with laundry and washing up facilities added on. All were spotlessly clean and well maintained. The site is ideally situated for touring the island. There is no shop, but there is a franchised cafe with an outside seating area. We would definitely return.

Great campsite - beautiful location near to Port Charlotte. Spotlessly clean facilities. Anna was brilliant. Enjoyed Debbie's Cafe at Bruichladdich and the visit to Distillery - getting the local bus to Bowmore and Portnahavan driven by the fabulous Davy who must be the best bus driver in the world. Loved our stay there. Thank you.

This Site is the opposite end of the spectrum from Islay's other location at Kintra Farm. It is modern, well organised, has flat pitches and lots of space. Washing and laundry areas are clean and well kept. Staff, John and Anna were super friendly and helpful and a credit to the organisation. Although they have hook-ups, we were unable to get one as a large touring party of German Motorhomes had taken all of them. So, if you feel you need hookup, book ahead. Without hookup, we paid £16 for a Motorhome and 2 adults, excellent value. Even with this group and other vans, caravans and tents on Site, we never felt cramped in or had trouble getting washed/showered.
The Site is ~1 mile out of Port Charlotte which has a shop and two hotels. Bruichladdich Distillery is about 3 miles away and the local bus will take you to Bowmore in ~35 minutes if you don't want to drive/drink after a tour. The Port Charlotte Hotel does good, but not cheap, food and their (free) music sessions were worthwhile too. They have, as you would expect, quite a range of Whiskies.
We went along the coast to Portnahaven - a beautiful village well worth the trip.
We'd certainly come back to this Site on our next visit.
