We came here in 2009 and had a wonderful stay
It was just as good as we remembered
James and 'wee Becky' take very good care of the facilities and their pride in the site is very evident
We did not try the cafe again this time but it looks very good
Islay is a wonderful place to visit. The weather was mixed but we found it usually blew over around lunchtime and we could go out for a walk with the dogs
The one day it did not clear as early was the day we enjoyed a tour round Lagavulin with the delightful guide, Marjorie
We had not been to Finlaggan for many years. Display boards were really good and helped us understand what we were seeing
Other highlight was the beautiful strawberries form the Community garden

This site has the distinction of being the only one on Islay with modern facilities and EHUs. It comprises a large grass camping field that can also be used by those not wanting EHUs.
There are about 10 of these, quite close together and all on fairly level hardstandings and all directly overlooking Loch Indaal, with the Paps of Jura on the horizon. The views are great and there is a path from the site to the shore and a small beach which is good for dog walking if the sheep are not too close.
James, the warden is very welcoming and helpful. He also gave us a tour of the excellent and warm toilet/shower facilities that were spotlessly clean. The cafe on site is convenient for snacks and light meals but we preferred the Port Charlotte Hotel (booking needed)for a taste of Scotland a few minutes drive away in the charming village.
Overall we have no hesitation in recommending Port Mor, despite the rather cramped EHU pitches and the dust flying from the on site track. At £19 with EHU it offers good value.

Great camping! Nice flat ground to put up the tent. The camping is located nearby the sea, so it can be windy.
Very good, warm & free showers, though there was only a curtain and no door. (so you have to undress and dress in a public area.
There's a washing machine, dryer & iron, which can be used 'till late (not the whole night)
There's a good restaurant on site, with a small menu. There's also a restaurant in the hotel nearby. For the children is a nice playground. Next to the camping is a football field.
Very friendly warden.

What a fantastic site and great facilities – possibly the best site we’ve been to in Scotland. The showers, toilets and wash-up facilities are well maintained and clean. The ground was level and well drained.
Two minor quibbles – the path from the wash-up room to the gravel track below should be surfaced properly. A floor drain should be installed in the shower rooms to allow surface water drain away (someone didn’t know how to use a shower curtain). A fridge would also be a welcome addition.
The outdoor children's playground is good fun and the building provides great shelter in the rain. The cafe is also quite good value.

What can I say that hasn't been said about this fantastic campsite, one of the best!
Biker friendly site, all the staff are very helpful and friendly, try the full Scottish breakfast to set you up for the day, you won't be disappointed, and the views from the cafe are stunning.
Pitches are level and well drained and the site wasn't too busy when I visited. Clean facilities and free showers, obviously well looked after.
A 10 minute walk takes you into Port Charlotte if you fancy a drink at night.

As said before - a really well run and clean, tidy site.
We paid £19 for 2 adults with hook up, facilities were spotless. The centre closes of an evening but the door to the toilets / showers remains unlocked. Staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
The only slight thing would be no locks on the showers - main door cant be locked and then the cubicles are just curtained.
The village of Port Charlotte is only a few minutes walk away - very picturesque with 2 pubs, a cafe, a small shop and a visitor centre.
Overall first class facilities and a great base to explore the island.

This is a gem of a site on the wonderful Island of Islay. There are only a few pitches and they all have a sea view. The facilities are great and part of the Port Mor community centre.
The cafe is open pretty much all the time and you can hire laptops for pittance.
Port Carlotte is a great little village with friendly people. We visited the activity/nature centre under the youth hostel a couple of times and the kids loved it. The cafe opposite the museum of Islay life is also highly recommended by us.
We used the campsite as a base to explore Islay and found some great walks encompassing wonderful views and history. There is a bird watching centre within a short drive.
Of course there are the distilleries and many whisky tourists. Our son particularly loved watching the ferries in Port Askaig and this was great because we could do this from the beer garden of the hotel there.
We were very lucky with the weather when we visited except for our last night and the forecast of strong winds prompted an early dismantling of our awning as the site is exposed.

It was the third time we stayed there. This year we stayed on the site for six days. The site is perfectly situated overlooking Loch Indaal and the Paps of Jura. Port Mor is a good point for starting a lot of trips around the island
The site staffs was very friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome.
The cafe offers lovely food and drinks. The sandy beach is small but easy to reach.
There are the best and cleanest facilities in Scotland. We will return and hope the see the sweet cat Tom again!

Like 'UnclePete' said in his review, this is a superb site and agree with all he has said. James runs the site very well. We used the cafe after a night of rain and wind, we had a leisurely get up and had breakfast in the centre - a breakfast that was top value and top quality, great food, great service so nothing more to ask for.
Possibly best showers I have come across on a campsite for quite some time. Everything and that is really everything is spotlessly clean, making the facilities a pleasure to use.
The welcome was first rate.
The pitches are set up from the shore so you get the most glorious views, but a 2 minute walk and you are at the waters edge on a delightful little beach with rock pools to explore.
Islay is a fabulous island, but this site makes it even more worthy of a visit. The site and the centre overall are a credit to Islay.

Spent 5 nights at Port Mor on Islay. Fantastic site with top class facilities which were spotlessly clean and well managed by James who runs the centre. The whole complex is only a few years old and comprises a community facility which is combined with a football field and campsite.
The eight gravel pitches with hook ups for vans are down at the bottom of the site quite a way from the main building with the showers etc, but the short stroll to get to them is a small sacrifice to make for the fantastic views over the loch you get from your van. If you are in a tent however you can pitch much closer to the building if you wish.
The centre has a cafe, which has just been taken over by a new chef, spotless showers and loos, washing machine and tumble drier (coin operated), inside washing up area, a fantastic kids adventure style play ground and a chemical loo emptying point.
Situated a few hundred metres south of the village of Port Charlotte its a ten minute brisk stroll to the wonderful Port Charlotte Hotel which serves some fine food (book a table in the bar as it gets busy in the evenings) and some even finer real ales from the Islay brewery which is just up the road at Bridgend.
A great place to stay, and although not very central, a good base to explore this wonderful island from as you are never too far away from anywhere on Islay.
Will be back soon I hope.
