We thought this was a great site.

The facilities were excellent and well thought out. It is on the outskirts of the village so easy to walk to the shop, pubs and local museums

The site even includes a burial cairn at the edge of the camping field!

The community playground on the edge of the campsite was magnificent and very popular with families camping on the site

Our motorhome was allocated a pitch with hardstanding and a hook-up.The views were superb and included the Paps on Jura when the weather was clear but the downside was the wind could blow over hard over Loch Indaal and did!

Site staff were very friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome. We did not try the cafe but it looked very good

The island roads are very narrow so we decided to hire a car instead of using the motorhome as transport. Full marks to the lady from D and N Mackenzie who delivered a hire car to the campsite and fetched it back at the end of our stay

We thoroughly recommend this site

Port Mor is an excellent site that was well maintained, clean, tidy and well kept. The Warden was extremely friendly but also unobtrusive.

The main building is effectively a community facility which doubles up as the site's main building during the holiday season. Campers have exclusive access to the showering and cleaning facilities during the holiday period. At the other end of the building is an excellent, albeit slightly pricey, restaurant / cafe. The whole building is superbly clean, well maintained with more than sufficient hot water supplies. It was the sort of place where you would not wish to leave the shower.

There are great views looking across the sea loch towards the other part of Islay and the north of Ulster can be seen to the south on a very clear day. It is an excellent location for access to most part of the island (35 mins drive to Port Askaig or 50 mins drive to Port Ellen).

One serious word of warning. The site is very exposed to winds off the nearby sea. There is little protection from either hills or trees. During our stay, strong to gale force winds whipped across the site causing damage to some tents - but that is Scottish weather for you!

Just back from a great 5 days in Islay, camping at the Port Mor centre. Can't recommend the campsite highly enough, it was brilliant. Clean toilets and showers, a cafe on site where the food prices seemed quite reasonable, although I only had a coffee and chips as I was on a very tight budget and so was cooking my own food. There's a washing machine and a dryer, and a freezer. The only thing that would have made it better would be a fridge.
For children there's a great playground outside and a few toys in the cafe - it's a very children-friendly place. The view across Loch Indaal from the site is beautiful, but be prepared for the wind. Port Charlotte village is just a short walk from the site, and there's a good wee Spar/Post Office, and the Port Charlotte Hotel and the Loch Indaal Hotel have friendly public bars.
A bus stop away is Bruichladdich village, where the distillery is, and Debbie's village shop where you can sit outside and have a lovely coffee. The buses are great, and the bus drivers are really friendly and helpful, but remember that they stop at around 5.20pm so if you're relying on the buses to get around (as I was) you're a bit limited in where you can go on the island. Hire a bike!
If you're on Islay on a Monday I recommend you go to the Visitors Welcome Evening, you get to see a slideshow and a talk about Islay and Jura, a few songs from local singers, and a few drams of the lovely whiskies and some dumpling. I can't wait to get back to this beautiful Island.

Great location, fantastic views. Excellent facilities, all very new and clean - toilets (separate toilet for children), showers, washing up and clothes washing all in one large main building. Ran out of hot water (supplied by solar heating with a boiler backup I think) a couple of times, but more available fairly quickly. James, the warden is very helpful.

Great food in the on site restaurant - seafood very high quality and very low price; no need to visit the Port Charlotte hotel for seafood (which is also very good but considerably more expensive). Staff in restaurant more than happy to cater for vegetarians even if there's nothing specific for them on the menu. View from the restaurant is spectacular.

Overall a great site, very easy access to Port Charlotte - 10 minute walk with small children. Port Charlotte has two hotels / pubs, both do food and serve decent beer, also a post office and bus stops for the main bus and post bus.

Site is very good value for money, too. About 10 hookups available, no problems with the supply. Possibly a lack of grass with each hardstanding (for awnings to go on); the hookup pitches are very close together.
Excellent children's playground with loads of equipment of a very high standard, plus a small football pitch next to the main pitch. Plenty of space on site for kids and adults alike. Fairly easy access to the shoreline - loads of birds about and some evidence of otters although we didn't see any :-(

A wonderful site on this beautiful island.

We visited this site during the festival of malt week and were surprised it was not busier. The facilities are excellent, very good shower rooms and toilets and good washing up area and laundry.

There is a cafe attached to the main facilities building which has a wonderful view looking over loch Indaal. There is also a nice play area for the children.

The weather was fantastic for the time of year we visited but this also had it's downside as it brought out the midges, the locals recommend hand and face cream made by Avon.

The site is in an ideal location to access other parts of this lovely island and see it's wide variety of wildlife. We were lucky enough to see a pair of golden eagles which was a fantastic sight and it is also well worth going to the beautiful village of Portnahaven to see the seals and have a drink in the quaint little pub there.

If you have got time I would also recommend going to port Askaig and getting the ferry across to Jura for the day.

A perfect site! Wonderful full view of Loch Indaal with nothing between you and the loch (except some sheep :-)

As to the music which was mentioned in the last review: During the 4 days we stayed here there was none.

Perfect facilites, well kept and always clean. It's an community owned campsite (as we understood) and you feel the heart of the people in all the community center and the facilities for the campers. The warden James McEachern is always around, so if you need any help you can ask.

Large playground for children, the people from Port Charlotte also come and play there with their children, not just the campers.

Due to the Malt and Music Festival during which we stayed the site was busy, if we would have needed a hook-up it would have been essential to book, cause there was none left. But we didn't need one, so that was okay.

Very good base to explore the wonderful Isle of Islay, do absolutely recommend this site!

Nice, family-friendly campsite with lovely sea views. Flattish ground suitable for tents and caravans. Reasonably handy for Port Charlotte (small shop, hotel etc) - about 5 - 10 mins walk. Good children's play area and excellent, clean facilities, also cafe on-site.

Rather bizarrely, however, they play music outside the cafe during the day, which can be heard over most of the camping area. Hopefully someone will have a word and advise them that this isn't a good idea! Better to camp down beyond the football pitch, out of earshot.
