This campsite is situated at the edge of the border town of Lauder with its decent pubs and a brilliant fast food shop which offers made on the spot pizzas to die for.
The site itself is very nice and clean and my wife and I were able to park our car next to our tent. The site consists of a number of privately bought holiday homes with permanent summer residents, about a similar number of touring caravan pitches and a small grassy area for tents.
The park is part of the Thirelstane Castle Estate which I think may account for the high amount of rules and regulations, much more than normal. We were subjected to a long “welcoming” lecture on the do’s and don’ts accompanied by a written set of rules which must be obeyed.

Very well kept site - we managed to get hard standing so it was pretty level (most of the field is on a slope) Had to borrow an extension for our electric cable (£15 deposit) Couple who run it are very friendly.
Shower block spotless - 3 showers in the ladies - not huge but at least have 2 hooks to hang stuff. Mop and bucket provided and cloths at the sink. Not heated or have an electric plug for hairdryers which is a shame. Short walk to Thirlestane Castle but we couldn't go as it is not open on a Friday or Saturday.Nice area for walks and a smashing chip shop in Lauder itself.
Saying all this, its a very nice site for some but we wont be back - I thought it quite expensive for what is basically a field and there are soooo many rules and notices about. One member of our party was arriving separately and it was like the Spanish inquisition (what time are they arriving etc) Also notices no under 14's unaccompanied in the shower block!
We were going to the Common ridings at Hawick and had to leave at 7am - asked about the gate being open and was told under no circumstance would it be opened until 7.30. We were told to park on the other side of the trees on the Castle road - only a 5 minute walk back into the site but my daughter is disabled and walks with a crutch.

Easy to find just off A68. The toilet/shower block clean but very cold even on a warm day. The site wardens keep it looking tidy. Electric is 10amps but we blew it several times with just a kettle, warden has to reset. Good location for border towns & Edinburgh. Right on the Southern Upland Way so lots of lovely walks with fantastic views.

Very welcoming Wardens, very friendly site, quiet. Discount given to CCS members. Field for camping is sloping in places, flat tent area. Ground soft - no hardstands. Below a large field with some statics (more planned), which are not obtrusive. Minor road by motorhome area, occasionally busy but a high stone wall retains privacy. Spotless toilet block, free showers, grey water disposal only allowed at toilet block not at stand pipe gullies: may be a long carry with a full container. No motorhome service point - bring a long pipe to fill the fresh water tank or toilet reservoir from the standpipe. Wardens supply plenty of helpful information about what to do in the area. No obvious recycling - newspapers and glass aren't collected separately as at some sites. Dog walk nearby, along the wooded drive to Thirlestane Castle (beware vehicles when it's open to the public) with a poo bin at site entrance.
Convenient site - town of Lauder is a 10 minute walk or short cycle away, and has the essential shops e.G. Very good butcher; good art gallery has tourist information leafets too.
Lauder is an excellent base in the Borders for walking, cycling, visiting historic houses & gardens and the coast. Few National Trust for Scotland properties - becoming a Friend of the Historic Houses Association for free entry will pay for itself within a week.

Found site to be very good, friendly and welcoming. Staff very helpful. Facilities clean and tidy. Lauder festival on the week we stayed, which was very entertaining, especially the fancy dress parade. Pubs good in the town, child friendly, as was the campsite.
Our 9 year old made friends with other campers kids, therefore we recommend this siteto families.
Look out for the large birds of prey overhead, wonderful to watch soaring in the sky.
Castle was good, discounted entry for staying in this campsite.
We will certainly be going again.

Stayed on this very quiet site for three nights in a very wet July 2007. Right next to Thirlestane Castle which is open for visitors (cost extra) and looks very quaint, drive North around 35 miles and you are in Edinburgh. Drive slowly, speed cameras all over the place!
Located about 5 mins walk from Lauder town centre, sloping ground 'field' type of site with good views of the surrounding countryside. Wash room facilites clean and adequate.
In Lauder there are four pubs, some with good food menus. Ask at The Eagle for a two-person 'combo' starter, not on the menu but worth it for sharing. Good butchers in Lauder along with a few other shops but Lauder's not a place for you to set the town on fire. The Lauderdale Hotel restaurant/bar seems fully booked for tables over the weekend, so must be worth a visit if the locals are to be believed.
I'd mainly recommend this site for those seeking a quieter life, and fairly central in the borders for touring around. No special playground facilites for children on site, so you don't find many of them staying, a bonus!
