Had a long weekend at this campsite over the bank holiday. Despite the weather being the worst we've had whilst camping (hurricane Irene!?) we would definitely recommend this lovely site. We were made to feel very welcome and shown to a pitch. As the ground was quite soft and muddy due to the downpour, the owner in his 4x4 helped our family who were in a tourer when they got bogged in! We camped with a 3 year old who loved the chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs (the start of a planned petting farm I'm told by the owner). The site is definitely a work in progress as its only just been opened again by the new owners, they have plans for a toilet and shower block but in the meantime you have the use of one of the cottages in the B&B. This doesn't detract from the charm of camping in the woods and we will definitely be going back next year to see the donkeys!

We stayed at this campsite (in a tent) August 2011 for 7 nights with electric hook-up. Two adults and two dogs. The campsite is situated within a woodland area adjacent to Staden Grange Hotel.
The owners were welcoming, helpful and friendly. The campsite had only been opened for three weeks prior to our visit so it was still in its infancy with regards to its facilities. However the price was reduced greatly to reflect this especially in comparison to other campsites in the local area. Although it lacked a 'shower block' two of the hotel rooms were dedicated to campers needs. These areas were kept clean and always plenty of hot water, loo rolls etc. The owners did say that it was their intention to create a shower block on the campsite but were awaiting the necessary permission. There was washing up facilities within the campsite, again plenty of hot water. The campsite itself was charming especially in amongst the trees and ample room between pitches. The ground was uneven in places so you would need an airbed! Hens are roaming free on the campsite, and in a field adjacent there are rabbits and guinea pigs which I'm sure children would love. The owners again stated that it was there intention to develop this into a petting farm.
Situated just on the outskirts of Buxton it was conveniently situated for access to local amenities. The Pavilion area in Buxton is well worth a visit.
We really enjoyed the surrounding areas. Dovedale, Ilam, Ashbourne, Castleton, Bakewell, Tissington Hall and Gardens, Monsal Head and Goyt Valley the bonus being they were all within a half hour drive from this site.
In my own opinion if your looking for nice quiet base to explore the local area and are not looking for an 'all singing all dancing campsite' you would enjoy the site as much as we did.
With regards to the rating of 6 out of 10 I awarded the site facilities this merely reflects the lack of the shower block and perhaps a small shop for provisions etc.
I would use this site again and wish the owners well in their venture.

We stayed here by accident having left another camp site due to the noise of the nearby race track!
We were warmly greeted by the owner and his family and given a choice of where to pitch. There is a 'wild and woolly' area as well as the pitches in the main camping area. The site has only been open for a couple of weeks so the facilities are interesting in that hotel rooms as being used at present - this did result in sometimes having to wait to use the loo!
Chickens roam the site which is really lovely and they happily trot along behind you and clear your pitch of insects.
The ground is a bit bumpy, but the atmosphere was lovely. I think as this site develops it will be a little gem. I would certainly go back.

We chose this site for its peaceful location & lovely views & were not disappointed. The owner is a very nice helpful gentleman who showed us the site & allowed us to chose a pitch amongst the trees with electric. As mentioned before, there is no shower/toilet block but 2 ground floor rooms of the B&B could be used. We had no problem with this although I did hear a couple of complaints. Considering the site was very busy on the Saturday we found it fine, no wait & was clean enough. There is an undercover pot washing facility. They had some pretty hens that roam freely around the site & were very friendly! There is no play area but that didn't bother us & my kids were just happy to kick a ball around or look at the rabbits & guinea pigs. Bacon sandwiches are available on a Saturday morning from the B&B but we always cook so didn't bother with them.
The site itself was easy to find & is a few minutes drive to Buxton where they are plenty of pubs & small supermarkets. The nearest pub & Tesco Express is a good 1/2 hour walk.
Overall this is a great little site & we would return, probably next year when the facilities have been completed.

We visited the Staden Grange campsite as a last minute booking. We phoned in the morning before arriving late afternoon, early evening. The campsite owners were very helpful and accomodating, despite our very late booking.
We were slightly worried as turning into the campsite you drive through an industrial estate which makes it difficult to spot first off but there is a sign post for the Staden Grange Hotel and once on site you feel very much in the middle of the countryside.
The campsite itself is a woodland area with one side electric hookups and the other, which we used, was for basic tent camping. It was quite windy, we should have packed a windbreak!
The owners have only recently taken on the B&B and campsite and have plans for a large shower block. At the moment you can use two of the shower rooms and the toilets in the hotel which is fine. The owners were more than happy for us to bring the dog as long as it was kept on a lead which we were happy to do, unfortunately other campers were not as considerate resulting in their dog running at ours one night and going completely AWOL the next!
The B&B has a tea room and does food, we didn't have any but it smelled delicious! It is also within walking distance of Buxton (20 mins stroll away) with plenty of pubs and a tesco express on the way. It is centrally located for exploring the peaks as we did trips to Castleton and Wetton, both 15-25 mins drive away.
Overall a good basic little campsite, very good value for £10 per night per tent including the car.
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely use this site again.

Although still 'working up' to a full site this place has a lot going for it. First of all the attitude of the new operators who seem to have a lot of good ideas and are very welcoming.
The site comprises two fields, one under trees with electric hook-ups capable of serving about 30 units. The other has no electr8icity and is used by tents. There is a third filed which at present houses a number of hutches and cages containing rabbits, guinea pigs etc and is being built up as a 'petting' zoo.
The hotel caters for those in search of bed and breakfast and until planning permission is granted for the conversion of one of the brick-built blocks into a shower and lavatory area these are facilities available within the hotel.
There is a tearoom within the hotel open to campers and on Saturday morning you can buy a bacon butty to ease the pain of leaving.
The Play Area at the moment is rather rudimentary but the owners invite adventurous children to explore the woods and build themselves dens there.
The town of Buxton is about two miles away and the Peak District surrounds the site.
One drawback is the height: the site is over 1000' above sea level - you will need some warm clothing.

We have just come back from an enjoyable weekend at Staden Grange camp site in Buxton. It is in a lovely quiet location among the trees. It is set well back from the road so there are no worries of children running on a main road and also no road noise first thing in the morning.
The family who run it couldn't have been more hospitable. We arrived a bit late on our first evening and they kept the Tea Room open until we had pitched the tent, which was very much appreciated. We can recommend the hot chocolate and scones with clotted cream and jam!
The shower and toilet block haven't been built yet, but we used the bathroom from one of the B&B rooms which was like using a hotel bathroom, so no complaints there!
We have 3 boys aged 9, 7 and 6, and when we first arrived they were disappointed there wasn't a play area. However this was very short lived. There was plenty of room in the field to play football and cricket, and there was plenty of room for them to ride their bikes. I'd have to say the most enjoyable part of their stay were the rabbits and guinnea pigs! Katy was very patient with the kids and they were able to hold them and also 'help' Katy when it was time to feed them. They can't wait to go back to see how they are! We will be returning next year!

This was our first time camping and tried it out over the bank holiday weekend. Despite the bad weather it was a very enjoyable experience. The owner offered us a choice of areas to pitch and were very pleasant throughout our stay.
They have plans for a toilet and shower block but in the meantime you have the use of one of the cottages in the B&B, if this is busy however, you are welcome to use the facilities in the hotel itself so was never a problem.
We went with our son and his family for whom this was their second visit, our grandchildren enjoyed the animals etc.
Overall a very enjoyable experience and we will be there again in a couple of weeks to try out our new, bigger tent

This camp site was our original plan even we’ve never been before however from family reasons we had to go to another one. Because we liked Staden Grange web page we decided to stop and check the actual site on our way home.
We almost missed the turning as it says Staden Grange Hotel (not campsite) but talking to the owner’s daughter the sign will be changed to campsite and B&B.
We were warmly welcomed by the owner’s daughter who showed us around. I understand that they bought this place 3 months ago and they are turning it into nice B&B and campsite.
The B&B is lovely country/farm type of building with a big yard and nice Tea Room with homemade cakes. You can sit outside drinking cup of tea and enjoying this relaxing place. My daughter Aleksandra (2, 5 years) had a ‘Gruffalo’ ham sandwich with fresh carrot and cucumber sticks. What she loved most were the giant soft toy lioness and lion cub just behind the entrance door.
Pitches for caravans and tents are available within their wood. Lots of space among the trees. You can park the car next to your tent. I’ve experienced farm field campsites so far so I immediately noticed much harder surface and a bit more bumpy ground in the wood. No problem if you sleep on mattress or bed. Otherwise the wood is lovely and well looked after. They have electric hook up points and are currently refurbishing shower block. In the meantime, they have alternative toilet and shower facilities which are actually the bathrooms in two of their B&B rooms easily accessible from the yard. It is an alternative but you might be surprised as this is actually nice new bathroom with big bathtub and shower. Though a bit difficult for elderly and disable people to get into the bathtub. The disable facility should be part of the new shower block.
What’s exciting for the kids, they plan to have a children’s animal farm. They currently have hens, Guinea Pigs and rabbits at present and are planning to add miniature goats, Donkeys and pigs by the start of next season. Actually I learned that they’ve already bought two Donkeys which will arrive in November as they are too little just now. The owner’s daughter took us to the field where the children animal farm will be and Aleksandra could stroke rabbits and 2 weeks old Guinea Pig there. She was very excited. They have one rabbit hutch on the yard just opposite the Tea Room which is a great idea as I could enjoy cup of tea while my daughter was feeding the rabbit with some green leafs from the wood next door.
I like the site and the friendly people working there. We just hope for more nice weekends so we can go camping there.
