This trip was meant as a test run for our tent bought at the end of last summer. We had trialled in the garden but wanted to see how wwe managed in a 'live' environment.
Chose Brocklehead Farm as it didn't look too far away and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to find.
We were warned that the site was a little exposed. Great, meant that I could try out the Delta pegs! The warning was accurate. We wanted to test the tent, and it went through the lot! We now know that it's water-resistant, wind-resistant and cool in the sun.
Toilet block was excellent with plenty of hot water. Had to time using the washing up sinks, so that there was still hot water left after others but not a hassle. Small kids play area that kept my 2 happy.
Contrary to how the pictures on the website show the field, there was loads of space. The pitches were very large - we have a large tent and could have parked either side and in front and still not felt cramped. All the pitches were used on the outside of the field, which left the middle area as a great play area for the kids. Whether this would be the case in the peak season is another matter.
Chatted with the owners. Lovely couple. Pub across the road served nice food. 10 minutes from centre of Blackburn with all it's shops and facilities(we went ice skating at the peak of the rainstorm).Plenty of good walks around. Darwen tower appeared out of the clouds on the 2nd morning!
Just over £15 for family of 4 with EHU. Very reasonable. Would re-visit.

This was our first camping experience in our lovely Bear Lake 4 tent. The site was great and we were lucky to have good weather most of the time and as we were there for two days early in the week, we were the only tent on the field.
As other people have said, the field is quite exposed, although it wasn't too windy when we were there. The showers are absolutely spotless with plenty of hot water and like a little private bathroom with a sink, loo and stool to put your stuff on.
The only slight negative is that the field is quite close to a fairly busy road which gets a bit noisy early in the mornings, but not enough to spoil the trip.
All in all. A great site and would definitely go back again.

We phoned up 45 mins before arriving at this site and was offered a grassy pitch with hook up. The lady I spoke to on the phone had a very dry sense of humour and was waiting for us when we arrived.
We missed the site on the way up the hill but was able to turn easily at a roundabout up the lane near a children's park. There is no sign that is obvious to campers and the farm sign is small but is just as you approach the speed signs from 30mph to 40mph. The site was very easy to drive onto.
The campsite is elevated and was windy when we arrived and fantastic for flying the kites, loads of space to do so. When the wind died down it was wonderful.
This is a working farm and so they were harvesting the hay so whilst noisy with the tractors it was fantastic to watch how it was done, a real education. There were hundreds of birds flying about and excellent for the kids to see. We felt lucky to have been able to watch the harvest of the hay and the noise wasn't an issue as it wasn't constant and the rest of the year I think would be quiet.
The showers and toilets were excellent and set in a lovely flower and shrub area. The cleanest showers and loos I have seen on a camp site and the showers had hooks and a small table for clothes as well as a shelf for shampoo etc. It was so easy!
The best part of our stay was being shown the animals by the lovely farmer's wife. The kids were able to feed some of the horses and saw a four day old foal. We saw pigs, sheep, cows and the many horses, these are kept in the stables and there are sheep out in the fields. There are footpaths just through the farmyard but we did have to ask where these were, there are no signs from the campsite but the walks are there if you ask.
The pub down the road sadly closed and was doing so when we walked in so we didn't get a drink but there is a pub in the other direction that looked nice and there are loads of places to eat as well as pubs if you get in the car.
There is an Asda down the hill just a few miles away and also a petrol station so whilst this site is in the middle of nowhere, it is close enough to everything that you should need.
There is no play facilities for kids on the site yet but this is in the pipeline and this would make this site a perfect site for those with younger kids wishing to stay for longer amounts of time.
We paid £15.50 for the night, £12.50 for the caravan with EH and us 2 adults and then £1.50 for each of our children. The showers were free and so it worked out to be very reasonable. There is also a washing up area and bins for non rally campers. We were not asked to be off by 12 noon though which is a first and so we were able to get up, have lunch and just relax without the need to be rushing off of site which, we found worth every penny as it just added to the relaxed atmosphere of the site.
We would visit this site again. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

Went to try out new tent for three nights as it's only a mile or two from home. Site is on a working farm. Unfortunately typical Darwen summer weather- wind and rain for most of the time I was there but site nice and peaceful.
Hook ups all around field although I didn't need one. No playground but kids amused themselves during the few dry spells. Clean shower and toilet block, showers free which is getting rarer. Owner was helpful and friendly.
Plenty of walks in the area, good view of surrounding hills and Darwen Tower. Lots of tourist attractions in less than an hour's driving distance, Blackpool, Manchester, Forest of Bowland etc. (not much in Darwen, I speak as a local!). £11.50 per night for me and two children and £10 per night for last night on my own.
Tent passed test and so did site will probably visit again if summer ever arrives this year.

Was just as the pp have said. It's in an elevated position, fairly flat with hook ups all the way round. Super views too. We unfortunately had a couple of very wet & windy nights but it wouldn't put me off going there again. £10 for a large tent & £2 extra if you wanted a hookup. Not bad I thought.

Have visited this site on a number of occasions.
Plenty of space, owners very helpful, toilet & shower area always clean. Good pub nearby nice food good beer. The site is elevated so can be windy. But on a warm day worth it as the views are spectacular, very reasonably priced will certainly be visiting again. It is a working farm with cow's sheep and horses for young children to look at. Happy camping.
