Fantastic holiday, would recommend this site to everyone. Stayed with my better half, 6yr old son and his 6yr old cousin. First camping holiday abroad, normally go on All inclusive package holiday's and wanted to try something different. Have been to this region of France several times before as my Dad lives near Fontenay Le Comte.
Stayed on one of the new pitches as we didn't have EHU. These pitches did not have any shade at all as bushes/ tree's had only just been planted. Be warned it get's warm in a tent.
This site and facilities are spot on, only minor downsides are the slight background noise from the nearby (200mtrs) D960 and the lack of a shop. Other than that perfect. Would recommend booking a pitch with EHU and take an electric coolbox/ fridge as the heat during the day meant we had to go shopping daily.
The site offers a freeze pack freezing service for 50 cents a pack though.
Small bar/restaurant spot on! Had a wine tasting evening for a few euro's, which was educational, karaoke night and even a band one night. Pool spotless, so much so you are not aloud to take drinks/ food into the pool area or even were shoes. Pool was FREEZING, but a welcome relief from the heat.
Toilets/ showerblocks were spotless, the management encouraged all guest's to squeegy the cubicle floor's after use.
Loads to do in the surrounding area and would have needed to stay for a lot longer to see it all.

Nice site this. Small (80 odd pitches), good facilities and clean. In a very good area in the vineyards of the Western Loire, tends to get a lot of the Vendee sun but close to the Loire Chateaux, etc. English owned. Gets a lot of repeat visitors.
Pitches - Mostly decent sized, and some quite small, so much so that cars had to be parked on grass verges elsewhere. Also very mixed with regards to shade. Our pitch was in total shade in the morning, then not a bit of shade during the midday, and finally totally in shade again from about 7pm. Pretty much the exact opposite of what you'd want really. Other pitches were perfect though.
Toilet Block - One large block of cubicles. More of an open air structure with a roof than a building as such. Never any problems with lack of cubicles, and the site was 75% full. Absolutely spotless. Cleaners were great, very friendly. They'll also willingly lend a hand when the temperamental washing machines play up a bit.
Pool - nice clean pool about 20m x 8m I'd guess. 1.5m deep all the way round. Very shallow paddling pool at the far end. Sun loungers right around the pool, only once did we have any trouble getting hold of 4 loungers, so it's not very busy. It's supposed to be heated, but if it is it's not by much. Pool is beside the bar.
Play park - not huge but functional. Small football pitch, volleyball net, table tennis, crazy golf and a boules pitch too. All in working order, but don't expect anything grand.
Entertainment - very little, thank goodness. Theres a small bar which sells nice enough food, but imo was a fair bit overpriced. They do wine tasting evenings for a few Euro and a bit of a bash on the 15th, after Bastille Day. No late night noise problems from the bar.
Surrounding area - Too much to mention. We visited the Doue Monday market, the chateaux at Saumur, Montreuil-Bellay and Azay-le-Rideau, Fontevraud abbey, Villandry gardens, Japanese Gardens at Maulevrier, Saumur Tank Museum, the zoo at Doue and Rochemenier Troglodyte farms. None of it was overpriced or disappointing, and all easily within a 45min drive. Lots more that we didn't see too.
Problems - Nothing huge tbh, just a few niggles. Nothing so big that it would deter us from going back :
The site is almost completely English and Dutch - so much so that you don't need to speak a word of French. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your point of view I suppose.
The doors of the toilets do bang quite loudly, but not enough to waken me once I was asleep, and I'm a fairly light sleeper. We were close to the toilets too. It may be more of a problem in other pitches.
As mentioned, the washing machines are needlessly complicated and there's little instruction in their use. The driers require sticky tape and a wing and a prayer to work.
No shop. The English guy who brings around bread, milk, orange juice at 9am fills the hole a bit, but that's all there is. A short walk along a path then over a river to a truckers 'Aire', a decent boulangerie and a restaurant. There is a large SuperU 5 mins away towards Doue though.
The main Saumur - Cholet road beside the site is very busy, but it's more of a distant background noise than a real issue. Again, it may be more of a problem on other pitches (we were towards the back of the site).
Finally, if you do go to this site, 2 other places to mention -
First, the guy who sells frites, sausages and ice cream at the Aire is very pleasant, sells decent food at decent prices, is open every day and speaks no English whatsoever. I tried to explain the concept of vinegar on chips, but I don't think he's convinced.
Secondly, if you head towards Doue and take right onto the ring road, after 2 roundabouts there's a Le Routiers truckers stop called Chez Paul which does good, honest French food - 4 courses (a help yourself starter, main course, cheese, dessert) and a bottle of wine or lemonade for 12.50 Euro (8 Euro for kids).

Camped here late June to early July 2008.
Pitches well laid out some sunny and some shady glad we had a bit of both as it got quite hot a couple of days.
Toilets and showers spotless and well laid out.
Didn't have a problem with doors banging at night or early mornings (ear plugs worked well ;-) we were fairly near to them.
Swimming pool always clean and not to busy.
Play park was getting a bit of a facelift ready for the school holidays.
Bar and restaurant a good size a little busy one evening which I think surprised the owners but staff etc. Coped very well, menu a little limited but food was well presented and tasty, good selection of beers, wines and spirits, a little bit on the expensive side but not to bad.
Shops, restaurants and market at Doue La Fontaine 10mins away worth a visit. Saumur a bit further on the river Loire is a pretty place, if you cross the bridge over the river at Samur and head to Angers a very nice drive along the Loire with quaint villages and picnic areas to stop and take in the scenery.
Also all the other places in the area mentioned below.
All in all a very clean tidy campsite well run by friendly people in a lovely part of France.
We hope to visit here again.

We visited late June , early July. The site is well kept and the toilet block spotlessly clean and as mentioned by in the previous review the area has a lot to offer.
The village is only a boulangerie and a restaurant used as a truck stop by the heavy goods vehicles that pass the site as it's located next to a very busy road.
The pitches are not all the same size and if you're unlucky as we were it's a real struggle to get pitched comfortably. We have a monty 6 and were unable to park the car on the pitch and set up our table and chairs. Therefore we had to park the car where ever we could. We saw other campers having to do the same and other campers who had been given a really generous spacious pitch and could spread themselves out.
The road was another major problem to us having been given a pitch near the front of the site. The road noise is continuous , even in the middle of the night we could hear traffic though our caravan neighbours weren't too affected by it, but could still hear it. Having said that , the toilet block was our main problem. It's spotless and always has hot water but it's odd the way it's been built.
It has a roof but no walls so basically in the open air. Because of where we were pitched we heard the continuous banging of the toilet and shower doors, they have a magnetic fastening and really slam when they're closed. We heard the doors slamming late at night as the last of the campers went to the loo and were woken every morning when the early bird campers used the loo.
I think every problem we had with the site could have been avoided if a bit more thought had been given as to where they allocate a pitch for a tent.
I'd like to point out that there is no shop on site though a bread van selling milk and a few other essentials visits at 9a.M. Every morning from July onwards. This is fine for those with a car but awkward for camper van owners who have attached an awning.

We visited this site for 8 days and found that the 3 wardens and their wives were very helpful and pleasant. Having 80 pitches the site only averaged 8 caravans a day during our stay, needless to say the toilets were are always very clean. The laundry facilities use a prepaid card purchased from the reception, the drier door would only close by using sticky tape. There are 2 outside rotary clothes driers. The bar and restaurant were only from 7pm to 9pm. In the local village of Concourson there is a bread shop where fresh bread can be purchased. Every evening most caravanners were visited by Henry the dog ( attracted by the smell of cooking). Non dog lovers could find this a problem and as we found out. Dont leave food unattended when Henry is around. Henry also has a habit of leaving his visiting card. The nearby town of Doue la Fontaine has a weekly street market, several restaurants, tabacs and bars. On the Concourson side of Doue there is a large supermarket which sells petrol. Saumur has a very good Saturday street market, the climb to the Chateau is worth doing just for the views over Saumur and the Loire. There is a very large free car park near to the entrance to the Militry School. Montreuil Bellay is a lovely place to visit. It has car parking and picnic tables alongside the river (below the Chateau). Opposite the entrance to the Chateau there is a restaurant and tabac. Further down the Loire from Saumur is Chinon. There is a large car park and picnic area at the side of the river near to the Joan of Arc statue. Chinon has some lovely side streets to stroll along and squares to stop off at and have a refreshing drink. La Valle is an ideal site for touring the Saumur area of the Loire with plenty of vineyards and Chateaus' to visit.

This is an excellent site, well run and very well equipped.
It is run by an English couple, and 'patrolled' by George and Henry (little and large dogs) and Tigger (tabby cat)!
The site has a great layout, with one of the best toilet / washing blocks we have known. Ths block is spotlessly clean, with roomy facilities, and with two 'pot washing areas', which catch morning and evening light respectively.
The block is centrally located on the site. Two concentric driveways circle it, and the pitches that lie on these are generous, offering shade and room for sun worshippers alike.
We visited late in the season, but the pool was still open. So too, for several nights each week, was the on-site and family run resaurant. Though the menu was not extensive, the meals were excellently prepared, and very reasonably priced. The steaks are enormous!
What is there to do in the area?
Well, a walk leaflet can be obtained locally which details a walk of some 16 km that starts on the doorstep. It links Concourson sur Layon with a neighbouring village (St Georges sur Layon). Here a small shop (open at lunchtime) provides fresh foods for a picnic amongst the vineyards.
Further afield are the delights of Saumur, Montsoreau, and Fontenvraud - all within maybe a 1/2 - 3/4 hours drive.
A great place whether you choose to laze on site or venture out and about.

We are a family of 4 with 2 children being age 11 and 8, we stayed at this lovely campsite for 9 nights in July, it is a fantastic place, the owners are a very friendly English family(and their dogs George and Henry) who run the site and keep it very well.
There is a very nice swimming pool, nothing fancy but you can swim in it and is a decent size. There is also a paddling pool for little children and sunloungers around the pool. There's no ban on swimming shorts for the men, although no inflatables, lilo's etc.Are allowed.
The restaurant / bar serves good honest food, freshly cooked at reasonable prices, children's menu is limited but good. The wine tasting evening is one not to be missed.
The pitches are all a good size, fitting our huge tent easily with space to park at the side. They have hedges as boundaries and are well looked after. All have (I think) electricity and water.
The toilet / shower facilities are the best I have come across in the UK and France, spotless, with large shower cubicles and plenty of space to get changed in the dry and keep your clothes dry. Squeegies are provided to scrape the water out to the drain after showering to help keep the shower rooms clean. There are plenty of separate washrooms where you can do your teeth etc in private and a couple of washing machines for the dirty clothes. Washing up and laundry sinks are also sited in the shower block. My only minor complaint is there is no soap at the hand washbasins, having a soap dispenser would be good.
There's a good play area for the children, with a slide, swings, see saw and sandpit, along with table tennis tables and crazy golf There's also a volleyball net and pool tables.
There is one small downside to this campsite and that's that it is quite near a busy road so there is a small amount of traffic noise, but this isn't really significant. We were pitched closest to the road at pitch 1 and it didn't impact on us but thought it best to mention.
There is no shop on site but another English chap is the bread man, who comes round the site beeping his horn at around 9am each morning selling the essential fresh bread, croissants and milk. There's a couple of good supermarkets a 10 minute drive away in Doue La Fontaine for big shops!
The campsite is in a good area for things to do, there's an excellent zoo in Doue and nearby troglodite villages, saumur is about 30 mins away with the Cadre Noir, tank museum, mushroom caves etc. There's plenty more that we didn't see, the one I'm looking forward to most is Puy du Fou which is around an hour away (maybe next year).
This is a great campsite that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good, small, family site and one I look forward to returning to in the future.

First time we visited this site we loved it -thought it clean, well-kept etc etc. Similar to the other reviews here. So happily booked to go again.
Second visit unfortunately a big disappointment.
Pitch good size , but strong smell of urine - probably from the previous camper on our pitch. Stench thankfully faded after it rained.
Toilets & showers cleaned by hosing them down. (Not really thorough enough!). It's a good idea to take your own toilet paper as they frequently ran out.
Had to tell owners about a dead rodent found on the grass near the pool. Apart from that the pool area was pleasant and clean.
Site well located for the fantastic zoo at Doue. We also visited the Puy du Fou. Lots of lovely chateaux in the area. Supermarket at Doue.
Spent the entire holiday trying to get rid of annoying persistant insects that kept coming into our camper. When we got home discovered they were German Cockroaches! That rather sums up the cleanliness of our particular pitch!
Perhaps we were very unlucky!
