Camping Wild Wales. The whimsical website blurb did little to prepare us for the just how lovely this place was to visit. We spent a blissful five nights under canvas in a lovely secluded location, with sweeping views for miles. The surrounding fields of oil seed rape - Norman who runs things at Arymwny says it's the first time this crop has been planted here - all but obliterated the footpaths going across them, a minor annoyance, but served to frame the amazing views all the way to the sea and Strumble Head far in the distance.
The campsite has a top field which is more open to the weather but compensates with the better vistas, and a bottom field with its pitches divided by hedging and foliage which feels more secluded, more cosy. It's a mixture of flat and gently sloping pitches, level underfoot, each with its own fresh water supply and fire pit.
There is no 'wash up station', so we took the chance to use our cauldron, tripod & grill for everything from making a cuppa, roaring fires, toasting marshmallows, cooking food and heating water for dishes. We hardly use any gas. You can bring your own wood or buy some from Norman, but use an axe to chop up into smaller bits as some of the cut logs are quite big.
There are enough loos, basins and a shower on site, and also access to the downstairs bathroom at the house. And a bath!
All in all, well worth the experience and, confounding all the forecasts, the weather was just perfect for our half-term break. We'll go back again.

We've recently come back from our 7th consecutive year on this site. I reviewed it back in 2008 when my kids were much younger. The kids have insisted we come back each time even if we've had other holidays in the year. There's been changes & improvements during that time and the site's busier than our first time, but the basic ingredients that make this site so good are all the same: separate pitches, lovely views, open fires and one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. We went to a few other sites pre-2008 but haven't been anywhere else since coming here for the first time because we don't believe we'd find anything nearly as good.

I have been meaning to leave a review for this fab campsite for some time. Quite simply, the best campsite. Have stayed here with my family for the last 5 years and it holds a special place in our hearts. Clean, lovely pitches with distant sea views, fab night stars and private pitches with campfires and tap. Facilities are very clean toilet and shower blocks from portacabins/portaloos, and a trampoline for kids (and adults that want to relive their youth!). Lovely coastal walks nearby and a fab part of Wales. The owner, Norman, is a lovely person, who will chat, but also leave you to it. I would agree with earlier reviews. , . If you want the beach on your doorstep, entertainment, etc. This is probably not for you. The nearest shop is a Spar which is about 10 mins drive away. If you want somewhere remote, quiet but special, then try it out. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have - it really does provide a sanctuary for a busy life. And Norman, sorry for taking ages to leave this review, which I promised to do in August!

We have just returned from another wonderful stay at Normans campsite.
As soon as you head up the bumpy track you are getting away from it all, Norman is a lovely fella who has time too talk, and let's you get on with things.
The camp site has huge pitches with water and fire pit, the pitches are private with long grass and willow screens, in the evening the site has lots of bats visiting chasing moths wonderful big sky's and stars.
Peace quiet and perfect,

Just come back from an idyllic week at this fantastic little campsite. It's off the beaten track but we were in a Landrover so the bumpy ride wasn't an issue, but the advantage of being so far off the road is the peace and quiet you get with no road noise whatsoever. We were welcomed by Norman, who pointed out all the amenities and told us to pitch up wherever we liked. There are 2 fields, an upper and lower field and we chose the lower for its sea views and west facing pitches. Each pitch has its own tap and firepit and all are very spacious and private. We in fact had the lower field all to ourselves for the first 5 days we were there. There are footpaths leading from the campsite which connect up with the Coastal Path and we had some lovely circular walks where we were lucky enough to see seals frolicking in the little coves along the coast and one day we walked to Aber Mawr beach (about a 2 hour walk from campsite along the Coast Path), which is a fantastic spot to break for lunch and have a much needed swim. Incidentally, we had a whole week of blue skies and hot sunshine. All the facilities were spotlessly clean and I have never had such hot water from a campsite shower before. If you're looking for children's activities or electric hook-up or evening entertainment then this isn't the place for you, but if you want peace, quiet, birdsong in the morning, and to watch the stars by a flickering campfire, then this is definitely the place for you. A visit to the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddi is also must to watch the adrenalin junkies jumping into a disused slate mine (now filled with sea water)or even have a go yourself! I would definitely recommend this campsite for an away from it all experience.

As you approach Trevine turn right, then right along what surely must be a footpath. Keep the faith, keep driving, slowly, and then well beyond where you feel you should give up there will be the upper camping field, Norman's (the owner's) house and then the lower field, with spacious, gently sloping pitches. These are separated by bushes and grasses. This is not quite wild camping. Each pitch has a tap. Each pitch has a fire-pit which you can fuel from a large log store at £10 per large bucket (enough for 3-4 nights). Norman has accumulated a range of portable toilet units and portakabin bathrooms which are kept spotless. Thus a hot shower is always possible, despite plumbing problems in the large shower room (which is being addressed). There is a communal fridge and use of a washing machine if requested.
The only facilities for our 6 & 8 year old children was the large new trampoline. Oh and the space to run around and chase butterflies. Fly kites. And watch bats. And shooting stars and the milky way in the very dark night sky, . Watch the sweep of the lighthouse light at Strumble Head in the distance, toast marshmallows. Read. Play.
We came for one week and stayed for two. The weather seems to be better in this part of Wales than further inland.
The nearest gallery/ tearoom and Ship Inn pub is within walking distance in Trevine. Both very friendly with wholesome food.
The nearest shop is the SPAR on the main road at Square and Compass.
Nearby St Davids has the Bishops Palace and Cathedral, Tourist information with excellent cafe, and several options for boat trips to watch seals, birds and cetaceans around Ramsay Island and further away.
We enjoyed some shorter coastal walks and watched a porpoise fishing near Strumble Head. Narberth has an excellent range of coffee shops and a good visitor centre which our girls enjoyed on a damp day.
We also enjoyed Castell Henllys iron age village, further north, where our children learnt how to make iron age bread and use a slingshot, face painted with woad. Terrifying. Pembroke castle is impressive, but take a picnic or get sandwiches from the shop outside.
Whitesands beach near St Davids is fantastic on a warm day, but we found it cold when windy (there is a beach cafe and surf gear and windbreaks for hire).
The Shed at Porthgain is good for a top class fish and chips take away, or outstanding food for a special meal eating inside. The Farmers Arms at Mathry does good beer and hearty pub food.
If you want a very relaxed holiday, and can put up with the lack of facilities and entertainment that you can find at more commercial sites, then Arymwny is perfect for you. The only downside is the bumpy track into the site, but this simply needs to be navigated slowly, and helps hide this lovely, peaceful campsite away. And Norman is a lovely guy to give your money to.

This is a lovely relaxing place to be. I had a such a nice time that after spending 3 days here in July, I returned two weeks later in August. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The owner is a very nice chap and always happy to have a chat. It feels like coming home when come to the site. All the showers and toilets were kept spotlessly clean. It is even possible to have connection to the Internet in Norman's house on the hub. There is a fridge freezer for communal use. I couldn't believe that I had a whole field to myself this week. Where was everyone? All in St. David's and Tenby, I expect. Trefin is an excellent base. There is a great cafe, a pub and the Strumble Shuttle stops in the village too. A lovely little bay and also the coastal path is very close, from which you can walk to Abercastle or Porthgain in about half an hour. I shall be returning very soon!

Stayed in june for two nights. Bit of a long thin entrance track but we did not meet any oncoming traffic. On arrival we were welcomed by the owner, who was friendly and helpful and told us to pitch anywhere we liked, so we picked a spot at the bottom of the field with stunning views of the coast and rolling hills. Each pitch has its own fire pit and logs can be purchased from the owner. Also the grounds are kept in such away that no two pitches overlook each other. The showers and toilets are spotless albeit a bit quirky.
On the whole a really peaceful and tranquil site to chill out and relax and do what you want. Would have stayed a lot longer but wanted to do a bit of touring, but left feeling refreshed and ready for a great holiday.
Two happy campers and a very large dog.

Concur with other reviews as to the location, facilities and welcome from Norman the owner.
It is an idyllic site secreted amongst fields. A site for the prepared camper.
Each pitch has a fire pit and Norman has Eco-BBQs to enable novice fire pit chefs to learn the art. He will also let you piggie-back on his personal Wi-Fi for weather updates for walking and beach adventures.
Norman has plans for a designated hot water washing up area so I'm sure he'll keep visitors posted in the future.
A special, secret site for those who wish to get away from noisy places with caravans, large groups and electric hookups!
As a family we will return as it holds a special place in our hearts for peace and tranquillity.

Well, our 4th visit to Normans garden of eden in 2 years and yet again we had the time of our lives.
Pitches are separate and private and even when campsite was fully booked it never felt crowded. Plenty of loos and two showers were enough as never had to queue for longer than 5 minutes!
Views from pitches are stunning! Campfires are allowed and there's nothing better than a warm fire at the end of a lazy beach day.
Seems to attract nice campers who don't play radios etc and dog owners who DO pick up mess!
Plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants etc all within few miles. Then you have the stunning coastline with its fantastic beaches. My personal favourite being whitesands, which is as good as any I have seen in the Caribbean, seriously!
St. Davids is only 8 miles away and is well worth a visit. We had 6 days of beach weather so were very lucky.
Do pack warm fleeces etc as can get windy but that's a small price to pay for sea views.
What more can I say? A fantastic place run by a lovely man who will go out of his way to make your stay the best it can be. And I really didn't want to leave a review as I don't want the masses to know about it.
One of the few campsites you can book last minute in school hols and norman will be able to fit you in without it being cramped!
Thanks Norman, for having the best campsite in the best place. I'm from London and its well worth the journey, believe me!
