A week after returning from this site all I can say is it is not to be missed. I stayed for a week with a friend, we both enjoy back to basics camping on non crowded sites in the wild. Norman the owner is helpful and welcoming, not at all over bearing which I find can put a damper on your first night, he just lets you get on with it.
The setting is absolutely stunning in a remote location surrounded by the yellow of oil seed rape fields with the sea and coastline in the distance.
There are two fields in which you can camp with plentifull water points and fire pits for which Norman provides wood at a small charge, unfortunately we didn't get around to the fire part.
Washing facilities are a bathroom in Normans house, four portacabin toilets and a portacabin shower he also gives you the use of a fridge freezer. All facilities are kept exceptionally clean, allthough I like basic sites I like to be clean!
As other posters have mentioned the track is bumpy and long, on the first navigation we got to the barn and thought it cant be down here - guess what on the second attempt after getting directions it was.
Having mentioned the track it doesn't take long to walk it into Treffin to the local pub for victuals however I would recommend the pub on the main road just before the spar shop towards Fishgaurd this being a 10 minute drive rather than a 20 minute walk, the food is more reasonably priced and miles ahead in taste and value.
I would definitely recommend this site to anyone who wants to get away from it all and modern life for me and my friend one of the best parts of our holiday was the campsite.
Norman knows how to run a campsite and is a genuinely top bloke.
A quick word on child friendliness I grew up in the country and spent most of my time running around with sticks and making my own fun with my brother and friends, there is a trampoline on this campsite however it is a perfect site for kids who have an imagination and know how to amuse themselves with the simple things in life.

Some more loos and washbasins seem to have materialised just up in the yard since we last camped out here but the ambience was just the same as the last time when we slept out under the stars here.

We arrived at the site on Sunday 7th August 2011 with only 1 minor un-planned excursion. Just turn right from the A487 from Fishguard signposted ‘Trefin’, follow the road and look for a right turn signposted ‘ Abercastle’, follow this road and very soon (after a sharp right hand bend) look for a rough track just before a left hand bend. The track will then take you straight to the site, albeit a little bumpy.
The famous Norman (everyone knows Norman) greeted us and asked us to choose a pitch at our leisure. It was refreshing not to be corralled into an area not of our choosing and with a warden wielding a tape measure. We chose a large pitch because of our large tunnel tent. The ground was nicely grassed with a slight slope and came with our own water supply. If you have a fairly large tent it might be useful to check the prevailing wind direction because we pitched our tent ‘side on’ which threatened to take off in a force 5/6 Sou’westerly the next day.
Facilities on site were scant; however, this is exactly why we chose it. To be picky, I would like to see 1 or even 2 extra toilets, especially when there are a lot of children on site, who tend to leave it to the last minute! It was pot-luck so far as the showers were concerned but I had to only wait once during our 2 week holiday. The showers and toilets were very clean and hot water was plentiful, even in the portable one.
Wood for the camp fire was plentiful and fairly cheap at £9. 50 for a large bundle. The fire added a special dimension to the camping experience and was one of the main reasons why we went there.
The local ‘Spar’ shop (attached to a petrol station) was about 2 miles away and provided just about everything you might need so long as your cooking is relatively basic. The Co-op in Fishguard (turn right at the roundabout with the cannon and the Co-op is on the right) is much bigger and stock the usual stuff. I would recommend a farm shop about 3 or 4 miles on the road to St. David’s (on the left) for vegetables though; I have never tasted anything like them!
The Pembrokeshire coast path is only a mile away for those energetic types and the walk to Porthgain is very pretty. However we are not walkers and tended to go to the local beach just the other side of Trefin. By coincidence the Ship Inn is roughly half way there if you are thirsty or hungry.
All in all, I recommend Arymyny, especially if you want to get away from it all. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful. Norman recommended that I took my watch off – it worked!

We have just returned from a great six day camp up at Normans site
It's just ace, with huge pitches all with a tap and fire pit.
Norman is a real nice fellow.
The site is nice and laid back its on the basic side so if that's not your thing. Maybe not for you but if you want a great quiet site with wonderful views this is it.
The site is located up a long bumpy track but its not so far as too put you off walking too the local pub, for food and drinks.
The area around the site is very special.
I am looking forward to our next visit

As several other reviews have mentioned, a stay at this campsite is one that will delight the old school, getaway from it, chill n relax sort of camper.
The welcome from the owner is warm, friendly and chatty without being over bearing. He doesn't lay down rules and encourages you to build a fire (though watch your fingers, he mentioned that lots of folks cut themselves chopping their tinder!), and charges a small fee for a large pile of logs (you collect it and tell him how much you've used - all based on honesty).
Your pitch has a fire pit and tap n bucket. There's no washing room for pots other than your bucket, cool! But in a part of Normans house is a fridge and freezer and washing machine and use of a lovely bathroom, with bath, shower and toilet. Additionally, 2 more toilets and another shower are in those portable/festival tardis'. All perfectly usable, clean and suitable.
We stayed for a fortnight and found the Trefin Mill/Handweaving centre/Cafe a fabulous place to get a great cup of coffee, a wicked cooked breakfast (the welsh with laverbread n cockles is lush), or one of their wonderful specials. James, the chef and owner, is a friendly fella and another warm welcome awaits here.
St Davids and Fishguard are only 20-30mins mellow drive away, and the coast path can be walked to from the site in about 20-30 minutes. Kids can play in the fields, or on a trampoline, but its a great place for them to just play and meet other kids, like kids should.
This was our first time here, but we will be going back for sure (although it's tempting to keep quiet about it, as it's such a gem, but it's such a great spot).

This is a genuinely laid back, remote and quiet campsite. Dog friendly and campfire friendly it was just our sort of place.
You're able to just pitch up as you like, small areas kept mowed short and with fire pits to guide you but long grass in between to help keep pitches separate.
Good choice for pitches, not overcrowded, lovely views and in some lovely countryside. The access lane didn't bother us in the slightest but being country people it added to the back to basics feel for us!
Facilities are adequate, we never waited despite only one main bathroom ( wasn't brave enough to try the portaloos! )
Norman was friendly, and helpful, but didn't pester you in any way. We'll be back if in the area again!

If you want a back-to-basics break off the beaten track Arymwny is the place to go!
We found the track easy to find (with the help of Google Earth) and it was easily negotiated by our old Polo. The site is well kept, the toilet was very clean and the shower was a little tepid at times but sufficient for us.
The infamous Norman was very welcoming and helpful from booking to departure. Use of the fridge freezer is a real bonus if you do not plan to go shopping daily.
There is a water point and fire pit on each generous-sized pitch, with great views of the sea and hills. A few of the pitches had a very slight slope but this did not affect our stay or sleep under the bright stars. We didn't even wake to the badgers feasting on our leftovers!
A short walk away by road or coast is Abercastle, a picturesque seaside hamlet which has a cafe. Trefin itself has a shop, cafe and a good pub with good food, and water for dogs.
From the pub you can see a modern-day stone circle but just two fields away from Aramwny is a genuine Dolmen called Carreg Sampson which is worth a look. The terrain from Arymwny to the coast is a little uneven so good walking boots are recommended.
As Norman said himself, Arymwny is all about what isn't there. We will definitely return.

Brilliant site if you like a 'free & easy' style camping experience. Norman is excellent, very friendly & helpful.
The facilities are basically a downstairs bathroom in the farm which is fine, and a couple of portableloo and portable shower units. There's a trampoline where all the kids on site got to know each other, very sociable.
The location is fabulous and easy to find if you follow the instructions carefully.
After going to a couple of sites where the wardens had a bit of a 'cop' mentality this made a really refreshing change. Hope to return maybe next year.

We stayed for 2 nights in all, our group of 6 included 2 children, both under 7 years old. They found the wild flowers which separated the pitches fab for hide and go seek!
The facilities were great, the cleanest portable loos we've ever seen! And the portable shower wasn't bad either! Norman was very helpful in directing us to the track entrance (blink and you miss it!). He was very welcoming and pointed out the best spot for us. Be warned the track is very bumpy and was in the process of having a few passing points added!
We will definitely be returning in the near future! And would recommend the site for a nice quiet back to basics experience!

Great little campsite, only a few pitches, which were spread out nicely. Really secluded, great views and the pitches are surrounded on all sides by banked edges to make you feel like you're all alone!
Great bathroom facilities in norman's house and loads of water taps spread about the place. Really worth a visit, especially good if the weather isn't playing up though!
The other reviews are right, campsite can be quite hard to find if you're not looking closely. We couldn't find it but the lady who runs the local youth hostel gave us good directions!
