(Couple - a tad either side of 50 - look for peace, quiet and tranquillity, but with a few mod cons).

Stayed 2 nights - Fri 5/6 to Sun 7/6.

First time here.

Priority was to be near enough to Rutland Water, for a cycle ride on the Saturday. Turns out this site is approx. 30 min away by car, so good enough for us! By coincidence, friends of ours were here 2 weeks earlier, and recommended the site. Again, good enough for us.

Negatives first:

The shower/loo blocks:

Although clean and tidy (at all times!), they are rather dated, and not the best layout. One shower is just behind a curtain, the other is behind 2 x curtains, so at least offers a drying/dressing area.

The two sinks are more suited for hand washing, than a full on wash. Small and close together. I believe it's a mirror image in the ladies?

Having said that, I must stress this is the cheapest site we have stayed on thus far (In 3 years regular/all year round camping). £14 per night with EHU, £12 without, based on two adults, and regardless of the unit. I believe the only extra is per additional adult. Showers, wifi, dogs, awnings etc are all included. If a posh new loo block was offered at extra cost, in all honesty, I don't know which way I'd vote. They certainly aren't the worst we've seen. Nor are they the best. Ultimately, I'd be happy to use these again as they are.

And that's it, for 'negatives', if I can call it that!

Booked 3 days in advance. No deposit. Paid on arrival. The owner was extremely friendly/likeable, but the sort to leave you in peace, which suits us fine. Met at the gate, with the key fob for the site barrier, and showed around/to our pitch. All very welcoming.

Hot water at all times. Always stocked with handwash/loo rolls etc.

Shower blocks have a small heater on the wall, with push button switch, much like those pub patio heaters. Wasn't needed on this occasion, but have been mentally noted, as we camp all year round! Only time will tell whether they are good enough, I guess.

Free wi-fi.

EHU available for every pitch.

Free use of fridge, freezer and microwave.

Nice and quiet, both on and around the site. My guess is the fact that it is adult only helps on that score!

Two straight rows of pitches. 2 x dozen in total (from memory?) One row hard standing, the rest all grass. All are as flat and level as any camper could hope for.

The grass was superb. Nice length, lush and flat.

The pitches are spacious, as they are not exactly marked. Most are a good 10 to 14m wide, (at a guess), but are almost unlimited in length, given the layout.

Every unit apart from ours was a large caravan, most accompanied by large awnings, space, car, space, bush/tree, next pitch! Not as regimented as it sounds, despite being two straight rows in a rectangular field. In fact, my description is not doing it justice, as it was wonderful, so I'll stop there!

The ground itself has to go down as the best pegging ground we have experienced to date. Whilst it was difficult to push my pegs in by hand (just to get them started, before getting the mallet), they did need a few good whacks to go in, and yet I never felt one stone. No need for rock pegs, yet my pegs held beautifully firm, despite the windy conditions. No idea whether soil/clay/whatever, but perfect for tent pegs!

For the 'vanners amongst you (It seems most visitors here are, but tenter's are made extremely welcome by both owner and guests, if our experience is anything to go by), I can only presume access to the site is fine, judging by the size of some of the units/combo's on site.

Some (not us!) might say this site is a bit 'out of the way'. Nothing in walking distance, other than the walks and public pathways themselves (direct from site) and all in beautifully flat countryside.

Apparently, there are a few nice little towns in the area, but due to such a short stay, and our commitment to cycling on our only full day, we'll leave the local exploring until our next visit!

Oh, did I not say? Of course we'll be back. Why wouldn't we?

My money is on us coming back in winter (if not before), so maybe an update on how those heaters bear up in the shower block!

Thanks for having us.

Xxx

This was our third visit to this lovely peaceful site. Lorraine is always friendly and helpful. There is an adequate shower and toilet block and the site is immaculate. As mentioned by other reviewers it is in an isolated area but only a short drive to Stamford, which is a delightful and interesting town. We visited Rutland Water during our latest stay which is about 15 miles away and spent a lovely afternoon walking around and watching the activities on the water. We would definitely recommend this site to anyone looking for a peaceful break.

Grabbed a quick one night stay as its close to where we live. Booking by phone very easy and friendly with a relaxed view on arrival times and that she would catch up with us for the site fee during our stay.

Lovely well kept site with large hard standing, be aware though hook up is some distance and you may need a extension

Fished the lake twice and caught numerous fish up to about 8 lb though most small crucian, tench and roach.

Nature reserve close by with different length circular walks signposted. Enjoyed a very pleasant evening walk of about 1 1/2 miles.

All the facilities clean and well maintained.

Did not notice the road as very quite at night.

Will be visiting again very soon.

Used the site as a base to visit the Food Festival in Spalding which was only about 6 miles away. Site is good and flat and Lorraine greeted us and was very friendly and helpful.

As mentioned the facilities are basic but clean and at just £14 per night it was very reasonable.

The entrance was a bit tight for us but once through the coded barrier gate Lorraine guided us to a big hardstanding pitch which was perfect for our tag axle motorhome.

We didn't have a problem with road noise even with the windows open at night, as for once the weather was warm and sunny. And it was a really peaceful and quite site.

Would we go back yes definitely. If you visit take care on the approaches, the roads are very straight but have undulations so don't be tempted to 'press on'

Although the rain was fairly constant on our second visit, we had an excellent stay. Lorraine is always on hand for any helpful advice as usual. Lake has been restocked with some excellent fishing. Would recommend this site for some relaxation in nice surroundings. Will definitely return one day.

Just returned from our first visit to the site.

We were extremely lucky with the weather as it was very warm and sunny for the 6 days stay. Lorraine was very wecolming and as we were the only tent booked in gave us an enormous pitch. With the very warm weather we were pleased to be be able to use the fridge and freezer facility.

As other reviews have said the shower block was tired but always clean. Hot water for washing up and showering included in the price of £12 a night. A flat pitch ensured a comfy sleep. We got used to the road noise but the local farmers were very active this time of year so there was extra traffic noise, but it was quiet during the night.

Tescos very convenient at Bourne.

Site is central to many visitor attractions but not near any. A fair amount of driving needed each day to visit places like Oakham, Stamford, Spalding, Uppingham, Rutland Water and Burgley House all of which we wisited. Ate out at Baskerville Hotel lovely food and reasonably priced on steak night (Wednesday £9. 99) but extremely slow service. Also another nice meal at White Horse inn Empingham.

Lots of birds to see on the campsite, even thier own resident partridge, A domestic type rabbit was also a regular siting at night.

Local shop in Baston closes at 18. 00 most nights. Country roads are good for cycling but watch the occasional fast car. All in all we would be happy to use the site again.

Received a warm welcome from Lorraine. Facilities clean but a little tired. Good Pitch price.

Fishing a little challenging especially with just a float rod ! Next time will be gunned up with my carp rod as there are some biggies in there,

A lovely little lake though & has good potential, plus a bonus of free fishing. Some expected early morning noise from working farm, but quite at night. Good walks from site, along River Glen & Baston Fen Nature Reserve.

A good pub is the Baskervilles Hotel in Baston, they really make you welcome & excellent Sunday lunch. A good Tesco in Bourne. A great friendly site to visit.

Recommended.

We have just returned after a few days at this wonderful site. Lorraine was there to great us, and made us feel really welcome,

The toilets and showers were kept spotless and the heaters in the showers were a lovely bonus. The site is flat with nice big pitches,,

Nice and quite site with peaceful fishing at no extra charge.

Will certainly be returning again later in the year.

We have just returned from a lovely weeks camping at Windmill Farm.

Negatives : As stated in other reviews, the road is close and is quite noisy during the day, but is quiet at night. There is not much in the way of entertainment on site, unless you like walking. The approaching fen roads are very bumpy, of course this isn't the sites fault but it is worth noting. Wi-Fi reception was a bit hit and miss as we were on the furthest pitch. The dog walk is not fenced.

Positives: Facilities are basic but functional and were kept clean, with lovely hot and powerful showers. All the washing facilities except the washing machine were free, with ample hot water whatever time of day. The wardens are very nice and helpful and gave us a warm welcome, and immediately bought us an electrical hook up extension when ours didn't reach. The pitches are really nice and big, our tent is 8m and we had ample room for car, trailer, and wind breaks without straying over the pitch. The site is very well drained, it rained heavily while we were there and it didn't seem to make any difference to the ground. Well behaved dogs are very welcome, we have 5 and were not read the rules when we arrived, and were not charged extra for them. The site is well placed to visit the local area, and we found no shortage of things to do and see.

All in all, we had a nice stay here, and would come back again for sure. This site is good value for money, one of the best we have visited.

What a lovely site. Friendly staff, some limitations as no shop or bar etc - although the local village has several pubs, shop/post iffce and butchers etc. We visited as part of a larger wedding party that had their wedding at the Baskervilles Hotel in Baston (approx 2 miles away). The site was clean and well managed, and it gave us and other guests the chance of staying near the wedding at a very reasonable cost.
