A very friendly greeting by the site owner who helped us to site our caravan. We were shown the water point and Chemical disposal and shown around the toilet and shower area. Useful information booklet about the Isle of Skye was also loaned to us on arrival.
A small site that enables you to unwind and relax and take in the magnificent scenery. A really good site to launch and sail boats. A large local supermarket is in Broadford to get all the necessities. We thought the cost of the site was very reasonable compared to larger sites.

I’ve stayed at Loch Side twice this year, in May and August, and I’ve had two wonderful experiences. In May I camped at the site for two weeks and was well looked after by Cathy and Ian. You’ll not find more welcoming or helpful campsite owners anywhere and I don’t think I could have managed two weeks camping without them.
The views from this campsite are second to none. Waking up every morning to a view down the sound and across to Scalpay is incredible and it never looks the same twice. There is a lot of wildlife in the sound with the chance to spot sea otters, dolphins and occasionally whales. There is also a jetty from which you can look for shellfish, starfish and jellyfish. Cathy also keeps the cheekiest chickens in the world but they lay the most beautiful eggs so I can forgive them for trying to steal my dinner.
The bathroom facilities are clean and homely, which I infinitely prefer to the institutional shower blocks you find at many campsites, and there is a washing line to dry your towels and clothes.
Strolamus is a great place to explore the south side of Skye from with easy access to Armadale, Elgol, Portree and the Cuillins. There’s a good supermarket in Broadford as well as some nice pubs and cafes, though Broadford is a short drive away.
Staying at Loch Side was one of the highlights of both trips and I will make it my first stop every time I go back to Skye.

We have just returned from our 2 days on Lochside and we wish we had stayed longer! What a fantastic wee place! The owners are lovely and helpful, they kindly lent us an extention for our hook up, and offered us info on places to go, lending us 'the book' that had loads of history about the island.
I cannot praise this place enough, the highlight of our holiday and we will be back to visit again. My son very much enjoyed helping with the chickens and eating the beautiful egg (never have I seen such yolks!) and also playing with the owners son, Thomas.
Although no young children are allowed, our 1 year old was kindly allowed and she loved it too! The views are out of this world and staying here has been a delight.

Before you go, don't expect a caravan site. This is someones garden where there is a small boat yard. It is very small with few hard standing & elec hook-up spots. There is one toilet which has a shower in it (we never used it) & one outside sink to do dishes (which has no running water, so you must fill a basin from the toilet if there is no one in there that is).
There is an outside tap for drinking water but no chemical toilet point or waste water point - remember you are in someones back garden. It was expensive at £20 (incl elec) for what you got compared to the bigger sites on Skye.
A friendly old dog Tess and various chickens roamed the garden which the children loved & a jetty stretches out to the loch for fishing. The views are outstanding and the location fairly convenient for shop.
The couple Ian & Cath were very helpful & informative & did warn the water level rises near the garden so beware with kids. Perhaps suited to tents or backpackers for an overnight rest.

Just returned from a touring holiday of the highlands and this campsite was one of the highlights. This site is for real campers who appreciate outdoor living with fantastic views of Skye. As soon as we stepped out of our car I was blown away with the whole experience. The owners could not be more friendly or helpful and the hens roaming the site were a highlight for us. We have two teenage boys, 14 and 17, who sat on the small jetty and fished until early evening. It was amazing.
The toilet block is basic but clean and has all you need. Only a couple of minutes away from nearest shops and restaurants yet you would think you were a million miles from anywhere. Ideal site to use as a base or for a couple of days to recharge the batteries. Hopefully when we return we will be able to hire a boat for fishing or just cruising as the owners are in the process of offering this. The site does not allow young children which is a fair request as the pitches are so near the water therefore making it an even more relaxing experience for adults and older kids.

This is a lovely location and I have rarely felt so well looked after at a campsite. Nothing was too much trouble. I enjoyed listening to the gentle clucking of the chickens and discovered they appreciated apple cores. Although the site was fairly full when I was there, the facilities were adequate, and I was impressed by how everyone was made welcome. I would certainly recommend this site to anyone visiting Skye.

Spectacular, best campsite I have stayed in.
Surrounding area was so beautiful, with an amazing view across the lock to a huge private island. Lovely when the clouds were out, but as soon as the sun shone through the views were amazing, so peaceful and relaxed. A ten minute drive to town to co-op for any supplies you could need.
Bloody chickens sneaking around around as soon as food was on the show, in one instance I shut my eyes for a second and opened them to find one of the hens eating my dinner! though they were lovely and friendly and quite nice to see them roaming around so free.
Cathy the owner was very friendly and had plenty to say about the island, with recommendations and lending us books and maps. Very friendly, kind and welcoming, lending us mats, hammers, all making the stay that bit nicer.
The shower was quite clean and and the toilet too. Always had hot water which was lovely in the wind and rain of Skye. Only one toilet and shower, but because the campsite is so small there was never much of a wait.
Top marks, wonderful.

We used this site as we arrived quite late on to Skye and it was close to the bridge. The lady who greeted us was very nice and gave us a choice of pitches. We chose one right on the water side which was beautiful at sunset.
The campsite owner also gave us some information on the local area and allowed us a key to use the facilities over night. One shower and toilet but clean and all we needed. We made friends with the chickens or should I say they made friends with us! We had wonderful fresh eggs cooked by the waters edge in the morning and the chippy in Broadford supplied us with a hearty fish supper in the evening. We also went for coffee at the very quaint little cafe next door to the Serpentarium.
All in all we loved it and this was actually our favourite of the three sites we used that weekend including Glenbrittle and Torviag.

The owner is really friendly and helpful
We couldn't see where there are 5 hardstanding
The shower and toilet are basic and not that clean. Owner's response: The toilet is cleaned,at least twice a day, and regularly checked when we are busy.
It has chickens loose on site and there is nowhere to walk the dog or even tie them out because of the chickens. The plus is that the view is lovely.

This is a very small campsite but ideal for a stop over if you arrive on the Isle of Skye late in the day.(And there are no other campsites in the south of Skye!). On the road from Broadford to Portree, ring at the gate for attention! Very friendly welcome, a couple from the Cotswalds who moved to Skye just over a year ago (Skye Boat Centre). As the name suggests, beside the Loch facing the Isle of Scalpay. There was a very friendly young sheep and 4 brown hens. You can buy fresh eggs for breakfast! (£1.20 for 6). Only one room serving as a toilet block but that was no problem for us as we were the only campers that night! It is also possible to have an evening meal if necessary. We paid £10 for 2 people, a car and a tent.Children not accepted.
