Lovely quiet site. Few regulars. Very friendly. Small park for the kids to play,
Good dog exercise area
Facilities clean only 20p a shower for approx 3 mins
Clean toilets
Pitch size good
Few attractions near by, beautiful beaches and coastal walks,
The site was very open and felt windy, no fault to the site just the natural elements so be prepared,
Friendly owners. My kids enjoyed the 2 donkeys and horses which were used to children talking at the gate to them. Chickens who loved to tease my dogs, which was quite amusing
Lovely site and very reasonable price!

Just come back from a great stay at Pen Y Bont Campsite with my 13 year old daughter and her friend and my 4 year old son. Pen Y Bont is what I would call a 'real' campsite - the kind I remember from my childhood.
It's very relaxed and informal - no set pitches, you just pitch where you fancy. For children, it is the perfect campsite - lots of freedom and green open space to play games and run around in (and I mean lots of space compared to some campsites I've visited.)
There are donkeys, horses, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs to visit. There is also a small park on site. If you are camping with your family you must go to Pen Y Bont - the children will love it.
In terms of other facilities, there are the usual toilets, showers and washing up rooms which are clean and functional. There is a useful laundry room with washing machine and dryer.
With regard to the surrounding area, we brought our bikes and there are some great cycle trails through Newborough forest and you can cycle down to the beautiful Newborough Beach (2 or 3 miles).
It also looks a good area for walking with lots of signed footpaths.
Malltraeth hamlet is about 1/2 mile away from the campsite and has 1 very small shop/chippy. The owners are really friendly and welcoming and the chippy is fantastic (fish fried fresh to order),especially after a long bike ride! The shop is very small and just sells basic groceries. It's OK for snacks but you really need to bring your food or go to a supermarket and stock up (nearest is an Asda in Llangefni)
Whilst you're in Malltraeth you MUST visit the Art Gallery and Tea Room - fantastic homemade cakes and Anne, the owner, went out of her way to welcome us.

Got back from a weeks camping with friends. We stayed in tents. There was plenty of space to choose from in a lovely big green field.
Overall a good base for us, we are in our 20's and had a good few days to explore Anglesey.
Good points: Fantastic area for camping, The Royal Oak gave us such a warm welcome definitely recommend it, Peace and quiet, lots of wildlife saw all kinds of birds etc. The farm has some very well loved pets who far from barking greeted us often when we came back. Very good value £5 a night per tent.
Lots of hot water for washing up, etc. Tennis court was a lot of fun. Plenty of space for walking and photographs. A huge dog walking field.Amazing view of stars on an evening. We were left to our own devices, not bothered once.
Bad points: Bring your wellies! Its not a bad point but the field can get a bit water logged. This is real rural site so come prepared :). My only really down point was the toilets, the ladies hadn't been cleaned in a long time, no toilet roll or soap, many lights didn't work in showers (20p for 3 minutes)or kitchen. There is no outdoor lighting on a night at all so bring a really good torch.
I would say good value for money overall, fantastic safe space for kids to run around and enjoy themselves. Facilities need a bit of TLC.

It was the first time I had been camping in 30 years, the site was peaceful only 3 other tents, there was a large field for dog exercise our dog loved it!
Showers were 20p toilets ok and they had toilet paper(since found out most don't)it has a laundry room with washing up facilities (washing liquid and pan scrubbers)washing machine £1
It was £10 per night for 2 adults and a dog I think it was good value, pet corner was lovely and so too where the donkeys, the farm dog was friendly the scenery and walks are stunning, I will go back next year. I think I'm a camping convert!

Just come back from a great weekend here, it is a basic site but only £15 for the 4 of us. We had a great time, Our Children enjoyed playing with the other children in a very basic play area. Area was lovely, lots of space, didn't see the owners apart from when we paid.
It was a shame the owners dog barked incessantly and woke us up the first night. Otherwise it was very quiet, then we had a couple of families turn up who were loud a lot of the night and the language was not good, obviously this isn't the owners fault but maybe they could have a walk round the site a bit more especially at night to check all is quiet.

Spent Easter weekend on this site and had a great time - we were the only tent on the field. The owner had rung us a couple of days before to say his caravan field was flooded and we might not want to go. We went anyway as it's only 2 hours from home. When we arrived we were told to find a spot, and if the car got stuck the farmer would pull us off.
Despite lots of rain there were a few dry areas and we found a good spot without too much trouble. We didn't need pulling off, but a camper van on the tent field did and he didn't have to wait too long for the farmer to come back to help. It is a working farm.
The facilities are basic but clean and at £10 a night for tent and 2 adults (and one toddler), we had no complaints. Showers are 20p for approx 3 minutes which was just long enough.
Toilet block was not heated though so it was a bit chilly coming out of the shower. Also, there is only one shower in each toilet block, then 2 further showers at the back, for mixed use, so if the site was busy, there might be queues. No problems at all the weekend we were there. Water for washing up was nice and hot.
There is no electric hook up on the tent field. The family who run the site are friendly and the eggs from the free range hens were lovely. 2 pubs and a small shop within walking distance, and a good walk along the Cob to Newborough Forest.
Lots of animals, and a basic play area for kids, great views over to Snowdonia. We'd go again as we liked the location and the value for money.

I visited this lovely site with my disabled mother and father in law and family. The family who run it are very nice. Stayed in static no 1 caravan, still very dated but new carpets throughout, unable to use the oven very hard to light it. My mother and father in law found the showers in the caravan very small for them so they had to use the others in the shower block(at a cost of 20p ). When it rains there, outside the caravan gets very wet looks like a lake, very hard for disabled people to get about then due to the wet muddy grass, maybe some paths could be put in would make it easier, especially if you need to use a wheelchair. Drainage would be better though.
Other than the problems above a very nice site with lots of animals to see. Would go again if it didn't rain so much and hard. If weather doesn't bother you well worth a visit.

A lovely, simple campsite located on a working farm with a full panorama of the mountains off to the east. The location is ideal for those who enjoy a rural setting, lovely beaches (Newborough and Rhosneigr aren't too far away) and bird watching.
Facilities include: fridge and freezer storage, shower and toilet blocks, sink for washing up, laundry room and electric hook ups. There is also a children's playground and Pet's Corner.
It's difficult to say the best thing about Pen-y-Bont. I enjoyed all of it. I loved the fact that there was such a lovely view and a pretty much unpolluted night sky (great for star gazing), the farm animals (which included chickens, dogs, sheep, cattle, donkeys and horses - not to mention the rabbits, guinea pigs and budgies), the owners (who are brilliant) and the surrounding wildlife.
Basically, if like me you're the kind of person who enjoys getting away from the the hustle and bussle of modern day living and you can entertain yourself then you'll like Pen-y-Bont. It has a lovely atmosphere and when the sun shines there is almost nowhere better to be.
The only bad points are that if there has been a long spell of heavy rain, the field does have a tendency to flood. Drainage has been put in recently though which has made things better. Also the two static caravans on sight are a bit dated, but I think they're set to be renovated in the not too distant future.
It might also be worth pointing out that the nearest supermarket is about 7 miles away, although there are two local shops (one in Malltraeth, which is about 1 mile down the road and a few in Newborough which are about 2 miles away.)
