A cracking little site, with friendly people running it.Prices were very reasonable £6 per tent + £2 per person per night.
The village of boldron with a pub that provides ales and meals is only 5 minutes walk through the fields and the larger market town of barnard castle could be reached on foot in 45 minutes.
The facilities were clean and well kept, these included toilet, hot water, a kitchen area for washing up and a shower which were all housed in the stable block. I bought a massive bag of wood for £2 which kept the fire pit burning all night.
It was also nice to have a campsite with an adequate refuse bin area, something I have found is often overlooked but this site provided bins and recycle boxes too, very little has been overlooked here to make the stay as pleasant as possible.
Last but not least, the views were tremendous and on a clear day like we had you could see for miles across some lovely countryside.
I will certainly be revisiting.

Just returned from a wonderful two nights stay at this site. What a lovely place, and such a friendly family, so helpful and made you feel such at ease, being able to rent a firepit was the highlight of my time there, my husband myself and the kids loved sitting around it at a night toasting marshmallows. All the campers on the site were so friendly and my family enjoyed a game of rounders with another family on the site. It's a pleasant walk into the village of boldron but not much there barring a local pub however you will find everything you need in Barnard castle, having never been before I was very impressed, it's a lovely Market town. I will definitely return to this site in the near future.

Just returned from a fantastic mid-week break at Gallows Hill Campsite! Excellent facilities, including free shower! Lovely friendly people, always happy to help, nothing is too much trouble. Kitchen area always has hot running water with washing up liquid/kitchen cleaner, kitchen roll etc all provided free of charge! They even have a fridge. And a kettle very soon! Toilets are kept clean and tidy and well stocked. They provide sacks of firewood too for only £2! So no need to bring any with you as there is a constant supply available! The site itself is surrounded by beautiful fields and although quite close to the A66 we were not disturbed by any traffic noise. Barnard castle is a lovely leisurely 45 minute walk away and well worth the trip! We are 3 females and felt very safe here and we will most certainly be back! 10 out of 10! Thank you for making us feel so welcome :o)

Just got back from 2 wonderful days at an ideal location in County Durham. 4 adults and six kids aged 9 - 3, had this superb location all to themselves. At £6 per unit and £2 per person it was reasonable. A new toilet block is in hand so the use of a shower and toilet in an annex of the farm was more than welcome, also there was tea facilities and the use of a microwave oven.
The only complaint we had was the noise from the A66, during the day not noticeable but at night a pair of earplugs may be beneficial.
Hens, ponies and sheep roam around the 14 acre site and the kids will love it. The owner, John,
Was very helpful and knowledgeable on good sites to visit ie high force biggest waterfall in England.
Marks out of 10, I'd give 8.
