Really friendly owner - nice location out in the country but very central to lots of places.
Now trying to hopefully visit again at Easter. We have dogs and the owner has his own 'amazingly obedient' dogs! I was in awe if only mine were that well trained!
Basic facilities but we don't like busy sites and this one is right down our street and will be a firm favourite when we visit this area.

Perfect for our first every camping experience!
Very quiet location away from road. Owner was very friendly and flexible as we changed our booking twice due to bad weather forecast. No toilets or showers but as we only stayed one night then not a problem for us. Having a fire pit was vital for us as this is what camping is all about, sitting in a field in the middle of nowhere with a good log fire going gazing the stars drinking wine!
£10 per night for a tent. Would love to return again at some point in the future.

Management response: Thank you for the review! We can confirm that new for 2017 we now have a toilet and shower block. |

Perfect site for people who would prefer a more relaxed site, no rules and regulation bed times.
We love this as we like to have a few drinks and play card games and board games after the kids have gone to bed,
Campfires are allowed as long as you use a fire pit ( some provided )
No showers or toilet block but didn't bother us as we have a caravan, disposal unit for caravans ect.
Although there is a hireable static van on site and if not rented out owner is ok for campers to use the facilities.
Owner was really nice chap, met him the evening before he left for a week in Zante, told us if we needed anything Mark would be around and he was also really helpful.
Pubs nearby are good and within cycling distance but do get very busy.
Don't think it's the best site if you have young children as no playground or football pitch. L
No shop on site you need to go to Pickering for supplies
We will return regularly as its a very relaxed site in a lovely area.

My family and I stayed in a static caravan at Hobground and we had a fantastic time. The caravan was lovely, clean and fully equipped. It is in a great location, just a few miles from Flamingo Land resort where we spent most of our time during the day.
The owner was very friendly and helpful.
The price was very affordable and we will definitely be returning.
Can't recommend this place enough!

We arrived and were warmly greeted here and given a choice of where to park as there were only 2 other units there.
The campsite is set in a lovely location next to the owners home off a very quiet road. The second night he offered us the enclosed paddock so we could allow the dog off his lead and have a run around. He even offered to take us to the pub on Friday night but we were happy in the field under the awning with a few bevvys. Located really close to Pickering to grab some shopping or go out for the day. The owner allowed us to gather wood from the little wood to have a fire in our firepit. Plenty of electric hook ups and easy access to water and waste.
5 minute drive to Flamingo Land.
It was a lovely break and we will be using it again. Owner couldn't have been more friendly or helpful.

The first time ive used this site and I have to say its the best by far ( only downside is no toilet or showers) but that don't bother us as we use the one in caravan, and can empty in the waste unit provided
There was only 1 caravan on the ste when we got there and no 1 used it for 1st night,
Customer Service was great as andy the owner even come over and asked where we wanted to picth
Kids can play as safe as main road is down the track 3 mins walk
There is a pup around 8 mins walk
Im back again next weekend and maybe a few more
As so close for us to goto flamingoland ( without having to pay huge fees to sleep)
Will defo use a few more time s

My wife and I visited this site for the first time with our youngest grandson, 5 years of age. Our only requirements were fresh water and a chemical toilet disposal unit, both of which are available. Electric hook-up is also available but not needed by us. The only other occupants of the site on our arrival were two ladies with several children; the children refusing to let our grandson play with them. This was our only criticism and let's face it. You cannot choose your nieghbours, can you? However, we found this site most agreeable and we stayed for six nights, though we did take our grandson home half way through our stay. Having been campers for over 30 years we are self sufficeint and love this site for it's quiet seclusion, notwithstanding the noisy, unsociable neighbours. The garralous proprietor was an absolute gentleman and couldn't do enough to help. The surrounding area is generally farmland though we did enjoy a couple of walks, finding field mushrooms on one occasion to add to our evening meal. We hope to return to this lovely site, with it's resident rooks, pigeons and woodpeckers, at the earliest opportunity.

This is a lovely well kept site. As stated above there are no toilets or showers so you have to be self sufficient. It is so peaceful and quiet. Surrounded by trees and partly walled so very sheltered and a sun trap. The owner has a few toys for children to play with but as its well down a track it is very safe for children to play. Not too far from Malton, which is a good town to be near but also a good base as within a short ride you have the east coat, North Yorks Moors and not too far from the dales. Well worth a visit, very good value and free range eggs available to buy.

This is perhaps the best site we have stayed on in the UK. It provides the basics: fresh water, bins and toilet emptying. It has hook up, is spotless and quiet. It is also small, taking only 8-10 units.
Other than green areas, fields and trees there are no 'facilities' for children.
The owner is obliging, friendly and helpful. He was there to welcome, checking we had all we needed. On the first morning he offered us a lift into the nearest big town if we needed to go shopping/the bank. He provided fire pits/bowls for any camper wanting one and was happy for us to collect wood to burn.
He was frequently around the site, either mug of tea, or beer in hand and chatty without being intrusive.
On our final night, after asking about nearby pubs, he gave us a lift there, as there are no pavements and the cars zoom along, AND he came to collect us at the end of the evening, joining us for a drink and game of pool.
Ball games were allowed, as were dogs (and cats!)
This is a quiet site and not really within safe walking distance of anywhere, but an ideal base in Yorkshire, close to Castle Howard, The North York Moors and Flamingoland amongst others.
It is also the cheapest site we have visited. We were so impressed with everything that we actually paid more than the daily rate.

Hobground is a relatively new site, so we were the first people to stay! We loved it and are going back again today.
The camping field is close to a small wood where the owner is happy for you to forage for wood for your fire. There are some beautiful, rare trees on the site as it used to have a rather grand house nearby. The owner has converted an old Burco boiler into a firepit for campers to use! Most parts of the field are flat enough and altogether it is now our favourite place to go.
Wednesday is market day in nearby Kirkbymoorside, look out for the stall that sells gorgeous sheepskin slippers! There is also a pet food stall and a sweet stall amongst the usual fruit/veg, butchers, home-made pies etc.
The first time we stayed we just used our leisure battery as we are used to rallying, this time we will use the new electric hook-ups. The water quality is lovely and the waste disposal is conveniently situated.
There is a static caravan on site (close to but not visible from the camping field) to hire if you want more luxury,.
