We have just got home from a three night break at this lovely site and have really enjoyed ourselves. The site was clean and tidy, as were the facilities. The wardens were very welcoming and helpful. We would recommend this site to our friends. The nearest pup (the Fish and Eels) was well worth a visit. The location was near to the River Lea which was ideal for cycling and walking. Just to be aware that if you tow with a commercial vehicle, even if it is not a white van or not even sign written! then you have to park it away from the camp site (opposite the Fish and Eels).

Excellent situation next to the Lee navigation - water on site for fishing. Near cycle path, nature reserves & white water rafting centre + Olympic Park cyclable.
Very well run, clean and friendly, helpful staff. Good showers/toilets - lots of space on site too.
Fish & Eels pub nearby, a bit disappointing for food, quite expensive for small portions, staff very slow - but lovely terrace overlooking the water.

This was our first ever camping experience & a chance to put up our Outwell Montana 6 tent before our week long camping holiday booked in Somerset. We are local, so chose this campsite. From when we called to book, to when we packed up to leave, the wardens and managers were fantastic - though the amount of shoes I packed for only 48 hours caused some ribbing ha ha! The site was completely free from litter and the warden ensured it stayed this way. The pitch was a good size and had shade, which was ideal as it was the hottest weekend so far this year. There's a small shop which stocks basic supplies. The toilets and shower areas were always clean. There's a playground area for children and a place to fish on site. A few minutes walk away is the weir and a lovely pub that sells good food, as well as a cafe for breakfast etc. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better first camping experience and we will definitely be back for weekend breaks.

Just back from a one night stay (we are local but visited to try out our new tent). Staff were all friendly and helpful. Toilet facilities were clean and warm. Bit disappointed only 1 hand dryer (wasn't a problem for our visit but can see being problem in high season). Dog walk was not clearly marked and Poo bins were not up yet. Was a bit disappointed by state of pitches (bottle tops and cigarette ends) and the path was a little uneven but adequate lighting at night to make up for this. As mentioned some noise from the nearby railway and warehouses but close to good pub and reasonable walk/drive to shops.

Nice site, if a bit pricey. We're quite new to it all but were a bit suprised to pay £29. 70 for a night - 2 adults, 1 child + hook up.
Wardens were extrememly helpful, even loaned us some chairs as we forgot ours!
A bit of distant noise from trains but not a problem.
Looks like a great spot for fishing as some pitches are literally on the bank of the river.
Also plenty of walks, cycle rides, boating etc.
We had a good lunch in the Fish & Eels pub nearby (take the footpath opposite site entrance rather than try to follow raod round as there is no path in places).
Showers and toilets looked very clean and shop sells basic provisions.
Asda/Sainsburys about 1 mile away, just follow footpath towards left across the top of the campsite. It does cross a railway line so take care.
No ball games area that we could see so kids were kicking balls around the pitch which wasn't great and the van got whacked once.
Approach roads were a doddle.
We'll definitely visit again for some fishing next time!

We have never stayed on a site like this, and never want to again.
1. Its a field with no roads, very uneven, grass not Cut, no paths. NO LANDSCAPING.
2. The toilets and showers were portaloo's which Weren't keep clean, no heating in ladies, and Stream of water on floor at all times.
3. The chemical toilet deposal wasn't working and We were told to empty it down the disable toilet And people were also told to use this toilet for Personal use!
This site could put you off camping for life.

Camped here over the Bank Holiday. Good to see the site open again. It is well maintained and in great condition.
Pitched riverside with electric hook ups a plenty, great spot. Plenty of good fishing.
Toilets and facilities are superb. Shop is ok for emergencies but you got pub, cafe, and a supermarket close by so you wont go hungry.
Was a little pricey, 3 adults, 2 children with electric cost me £130 odd for 3 nights. Used a kalahari 8 tent which is large so I was worried about being charged extra for a large tent but nothing was mentioned
Everyone, staff and visitors very friendly. Had a great time.

It is great to see this site open again after a few years of being shut. This is a family friendly site that ticks all the boxes.
Nothing on site has changed from previously, except the toilet block got some new inhabitants, bats, and as these cannot be removed they have installed a load of portable toilet and showers. These are warm, clean and tidy with plenty of hot water. The showers were push button type and non-directional, but perfectly functionable. They also had a block for disabled visitors.
There are plenty of hookups in the first section of the site around the edges and in the middle, with some more electric and no electric pitches canal side, perfect for the fishing folk.
A large area remains for non electric visitors, and space is plentiful on the main field.
Lots of fresh water and waste points and the bins are emptied daily by the friendly and efficient staff.
There was a great atmosphere all day long, but not too loud. This went on until the evening, but around 10. 30pm all quietened down expect for a small bit of partying.
Fishing on site, or across the road on the canal and Weir.
Many great cycle rides can be had from here straight along the canal path, so nice and safe for the kids. All the way to London if you wish, or Hertford and Ware the other way.
The Fish and Eels, still serving great food and drinks with a very friendly atmosphere and a cafe across the bridge for the morning fry-up - both two minutes walk
Playground is great for kids and in a good position so that it is visible from all pitches. There is also plenty of space for ball games, frisbees etc.
Hoddesdon has the usual shops that you would need including a Budgens and Sainsburys and plenty of pubs for great food or to watch live sports.
The only thing is it is not the cheapest, £13. 50 for unit and two adults, £5. 50 per child, £1. 90 for the dog and £4 for electric hookup. But for this price, you have your pitch and can put up pup tents, awnings, etc.
Also fires off the ground in suitable fire pits are allowed on site, bring your own wood though.

Regrettably this site is now closed from 2009.
This is due to redevelopment of the land to cater for the 2012 Olympics.
