Have visited this site on several occasions and this year used it as a starting and ending point for a six week tour of the Lakes, Scotland and the north of England. I have to say that when we returned there at the end of the tour, we felt as if we were coming home. As mentioned previously, the wildlife and general surroundings give this site a feeling of being cut off from the world. It’s wonderful. We prefer to pitch in the quarry area which is usually very quiet. Above the quarry, there are plenty of pitches and a small playground for children. The one thing we like about this site is the randomness of the pitches. There are no uniform rows of units, many face different directions. Shrewsbury is very close and can easily be reached using Park and Ride costing £1 per adult. The Sunday Market which is held on the Park and Ride car park is well worth a visit. A new Tesco Extra superstore has just opened next to the Park and Ride and there are a few “Takeaways” and a launderette just down the road from there. The pub on the A53 called The Dog in the Road serves delicious meals at a reasonable price. (Turn left out of the site and left again at the end of the road – the pub is a few hundred yards down the road on the right.) We have visited three times already this year and plan to make a further visit in September. I only wish the site was open all year.

This is a David Bellamy Gold Award site and deserves it. The site is a haven for wildlife and so peaceful-- except when the helicopters from nearby Shawbury fly over and the occasional low flying jets. The fact that there are no facilities on site apart from a spotless dish wash room with 3 deep sinks and abundant hot water, is an asset . There are plenty of electric hook ups and most caravans are equipped with all mod cons. O.K. Tents do have to bring a portaloo etc but why not. It attracts the REAL camper. It does pay to join the Camping and Caravanning club and save money as well as have the advantages. The fishing could be better although there are plenty of fish in the lake and the Club has promised to clear the weed soon. The fact that we were previous Managers of the site has nothing to do with the fact that we love the site, the area and the whole ambiance of the place and would recommend it for a weekend or longer stay. (especially O.A.P's)

My first attempt at solo caravanning, so only 30 miles from home, but could have been a million miles away. I soon as I arrived it felt so relaxed especially bearing in mind it was Easter fortnight and the site was pretty full. Both Carol and Mike were very helpful in a quiet way. Mike helped me on to the pitch and to unhitch. Having gone through my checklist of what to do, I came to have a cup of tea, only to find I had forgotten the milk. Recounting this to Carol she insisted I have some from them, rather than set forth into town, so I was able to spend the evening exploring the site. It is a lovely site as the other reviewers have said. There is now another dog walk which meanders through a bluebell wood, with super views. The bird song is amazing too. I spent three nights there and despite poor weather enjoyed every minute. The dog and I will be returning.

Visit this site on a very regular basis. Beautifully kept, but a good balance between being landscaped and respecting nature. Fantastic birding opportunities, with lovely walks and great location near facilities (24hr Tesco, big Sainsbury's and Morrisons within 10 min drive), not to mention a good Sunday market just up the road.
We love the fact that this site has no facilities, keeps the price low and the site un-spoilt. There can be many kids on-site but there are little corners dotted around where there is abundant peace and quiet. Management (Carol and Mike) and Wardens are brill, couldn't do enough for you. In summary cannot fault this place (other than wishing it was open all year), it's our little slice of heaven on earth.

This caravan site is part of the CCC. However non members are welcolme for an initial fee (£5 pn at time of writing). This is a truly nice site. Set in the Shropshire country side. 7 miles from Shrewsbury itself and 4 miles from the village of Shawbury. The site has 100 pitches, a fishing lake and a very small childs play area.
The site itself is set in woods and fields where the youngters can explore in safety. A David Bellamy site the country views and woodland walks are probably second to none, indeed on one such walk, my children and I spotted a dear no more than 10 meters from us. The site has plenty of hard standing areas although these book up very quickly dependent on the time of year.
Now, as when ever I submit a review I try and be as unbiased as possible. Therefore the downside to this site is as follows THERE ARE NO TOILET AND SHOWER FACILITIES!!! no not one, so the site is not really suitable for campers or those that like to remain clean whilst away without using there on board facilities. There are good elson points and ample water taps and rubbish disposal. The fishing lake that is advertised is very difficult to fish in due to its very high swims and ammount of weed in the lake.
Other than this it is very difficult to find anything negative about this site, the wardens when we visited were exceptional and very friendly.
So if you want real peace and real quiet to show your kids or yourselves the way of the country side, then this is the place to go. If you want entertainment and a lively place to be, a shower and toilet then give this one a miss.

June 2005 Just spent the one night here during half term - we're not members but with two kids and no electric it cost £11.20 - that includes the extra fiver for not being a member.
No toilets or anything like that but they do sell ice cream, eggs and jam in the reception area. This site was lovely with a lake and wood and loads of birds. But it was really quiet and our kids aren't!!! However, we did enjoy it and it's near Shrewsbury - there's a Morrisons on the road in to Shrewsbury from the Battlefield roundabout.
