Have stayed here a few times and it's best described as "perfectly adequate".

There's nothing "special" about the actual site (other than the beach being just over the road!), but don't expect lovely beach views because it's behind the sea-wall.

You can have a sea view if you pitch up the hill, but then you're on a slope.  The rest of the site is perfectly flat.

The site is geographically the older river mouth.  The sea is now kept out behind the sea-wall and the valley floor re-claimed.  So be warned, the whole site has been known to be under-water during heavy storms and high tides!  But don't let that put you off, it's extremely rare and you'd get warning.

The owners are friendly and proud of their site.  They're based on-site in a caravan (the only one, caravans are otherwise not permitted).  Showers are fine, free with a token (although tokens are rationed!). I have mega-thick, long hair, which takes 20-25 mins to wash - so have to give it up as bad job here - it only gets rinsed (not ideal when surfing, but 5 mins just doesn't cut it!).

Summary - basic but adequate, recommended

This is a nice friendly site with a lovely expanse of beach directly in front. I would describe this site as surfers paradise. Great for catching the waves. Very much a young persons site. Although it wasn't noisey which was a nice surprise. In fact it was a restful stay. So don't be put off if you are not a california blonde surfer type. The shower blocks were the cleanest I have ever encountered, although it did have a token system at the time of our stay. The token system was however adquate for a nice hot shower. A nice pub sits just beside the site and a shop with surf hire. The only down side was the wind on the tent, but hey that's camping. The lovely side of being so close to the sea is that you can hear the tide gently coming in at night.

Some 20 years ago, I was fortunate enough to actually live nearby this wonderful area, and I have been returning there ever since. Perhaps drawn, like so many, to the unspoilt beauty of this part of Pembrokeshire, or the friendly locals, or the amazing beach?

This campsite has to be one of the closest I have ever seen to the sea - it really justifies the term 'just a stone's throw from the sea'. The site is what many might describe as 'basic' which becomes obvious when you arrive; but read on!

Booking is not required - there's so much space available that it could never get full! Find yourself a pitch, and you'll soon discover the shower/toilet block situated at the back of the site.

Right next door is the Duke Of Edinburgh Pub (handy to stagger back from), with public phone boxes and another toilet block outside. Next to that, is a well equipped filling station with adjacent provisions shop and surf hire centre. Walk a few metres more and you'll find the friendly cafe and souvenir shop too. Really, what more could you ask for when camping?

Everything you could need is only a short walk away, and yet the site is barely more than a grass field when first seen. There is a regular bus service running past the site, going either way to Haverfordwest (10 miles) or St Davids (7 miles).

Whilst St Davids remains a tourist atraction, Haverfordwest has developed into a substantial shopping area, complete with out-of-town retail park these days, and several large supermarkets. I return to Newgale for it's simplicity and peace.

Whilst I cannot get down there every year, I long for the next visit down to 'my' part of Wales, and the excellent campsite at Newgale.

Have stayed here several times in low and high season. What makes this site special is its laid-back surfy vibe. Perfect for those who value an un-structured approach.

Fab pub next door with tasty pub grub. Also in height of summer there is a breakfast tent on site serving sausage baps and the like.

Surf school and shop selling beach gear and supplies also very close. Beach just across the road.

Would suit families and singles. No electric hook up. Would not suit those who want neat, orderly site with maximum facilities.

I must take Annajl to task. I also frequent the Newgale site, it has six ladies toilets and two showers also four gents toilets and two showers. These facilities are FREE. There are also cold showers for washing out wetsuits also FREE. The toilets themselves are very well kept, unlike Annajl assertion, they are cleaned three times a day and the owner Mrs Warner is very proud of the cleanliness of her toilets.

This site is fantastic value, so close to the beach and the facilities stand up well to their constant use. Things have obviously changed a bit since other reviews were written.

There are still only 2 showers for the ladies but they are run on a free token system. You get your token from the site office on the way to the showers, the token makes the shower run for 5mins for girls, 4mins for the boys. It doesn't sound like long, but you can get everything done in that time. It does make sure that the queue keeps moving, (I had to wait 15 mins max and we were there at peak time) which seems to be the best way around the lack of showers.

Both the toilets and showers were cleaned 3 times a day and were never out of toilet roll, site staff were really friendly and the beach is right next to the site - what more can you ask for? We will definitely be going there again.

After much searching over the internet, we decided to look for this site. At the time we only paid four pounds per person per night, which was what we were looking for. Although the facilities are basic we found the site to be very clean. The bugs and people are very friendly!

The showers were hot and free, there were cold showers around the back for people to use. A drinking water tap, dishwashing facilites, and a fantastic beach across the road. What more do you need to know apart from it was all lovely and quiet.

We visited this site midweek this time, though we have been before. The two draws to this site are the amazing beach and the pub, right next to the site, which serves good meals. There's also a well stocked general/surf shop next door.

The site itself is a field, with a slopey corner set aside for dog owners. The facilities are pretty basic here and I wouldn't want to have to fight for a shower when the site's busy - there are 4 toilets and 2 showers for ladies, in total, though there are further public toilets between the site and the pub. The water was only lukewarm as well - with only 5 tents and 2 motor homes on site using them. Things weren't particularly clean either and you have to pay for the showers.

However, despite this, this is one of my favourite places to stay. The beach is absolutely stunning. I'm not the only one either - the site is usually bunged in high summer!

We set off to find a campsite `somewhere by the sea' along this area of the coast, without having booked anything in advance.

As we crested the hill on the approach from
Haverfordwest we were presented with the view of
Newgale Beach and a half empty campsite! Being the week before the Bank holiday I was surprised to see such a prime location with plenty of spare room. My immediate reaction was to wonder what was wrong with it.

After spending the week there I can confirm that
there is nothing amiss. OK, the ashblock/toilets are basic but they are actually a lot a lot better than first impression. Most of the site is flat other than one corner that is on the side of the hill.

We had to leave on the friday before the August bank holiday weekend. This was just as well as we were told it does get very busy with a fancy dress party and all night music over this particular weekend.
