This was the second time visiting this site for a weeks hol with our 2 kids. Pitched on hardstanding and was glad as others on grass area across from us were surrounded by puddles. Toilet / shower area were very clean which is hard to come by on a lot of these sites, it was checked and cleaned a couple of times a day, which I have to say can't be said for the ladies toilets in the main club, toilet seats were broken and missing and in need of an upgrade.
You have to book a time slot to go to the pool which is a little inconvenient but you get use to it.
The amusements have been upgraded since last year most machines do work now.
The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced although do sell out fast of milk and bread when site is busy we had to travel to Dornoch 10 Min drive to get milk on the Sunday as their is no deliveries to re-stock shop till Monday.
The restaurant staff are very friendly and the food is great ate their most nights again when site is busy you have to book table.
You are right on the sea front so it can be very windy we nearly lost our awning and had to take it down. The beach is great and kids loved it good sand and some rock pools.
Swing park is not in view of touring area and entrance is on the main road into the site which is not great for younger kids to go on their own. I thought the Kids entertainment started quite late for the little ones.
All in all its definitely worth a visit.

We just got back from a fri-mon break at this site. It is a lovely site the facilities where excellent. The caravan was warm and had everything needed in it, the shop was well stocked with food and extras. We didn't have any children with us this visit but made use of the entertainment in the family room and enjoyed a quiet drink in the lounge / bar where only over 18's were allowed. The staff were really friendly and we would come back bringing our family with us. The surrounding scenery was lovely we walked into Dornoch and had a lovely day there. We highly recommend Dunrobin castle make sure you time your visit to see the falconary display, 11 and 2, I think it was. This itself was well worth the entrance fee alone, spectacular. You cant go wrong visiting this site.

I love this site, as I have been coming to it since a 4 year old(now 26). I do agree that it has a few things in this modern 'camping and caravanning' world that aren't very good. Some staff aren't very polite.More so at reception, swimming pool and games room. They are there for a job, not because they actually want to be there. NOT ALL STAFF, just a few. A lot different from even a few years ago.Where everyone seemed happy to help.
The facilities are good.I agree it's annoying having to be put on a waiting list for swimming, but we cant have everything all the time. There are plenty of other things to do whilst waiting your turn.Crazy golf, bowling, tennis and searching for life in the rock pools!
Restaurant and pub fantastic, along with staff. Have absolutely no complaints there at all.
Lots to do in Dornoch, I love going to the prison every time I visit.Beautiful shop and nice to see local history.
The only 'complaint' I have about this site and I don't think it is Parkdeans fault (the local council I think!) is that the pier is disappearing. The pier years ago used to be THE place to go, fishing and jumping off the end was always a great attraction. :(

I stayed here in May 2007 for a weekend break. Some good points, some not so good points.
When I arrived, the caravan itself was absolutely freezing, and it remained that way the entire weekend, I had the gas fire on continuously and wore every stitch of clothing I had. It was actually warmer outside in the open air. The following day I visited the pool which was freezing and the staff in the reception and pool areas were not in a hurry to help with anything, I felt as if my being there was an inconvenience. I started to think about returning home early and demanding a refund. However, I then visited the bar and the shop. Both locals and staff were absolutely fantastic friendly people. I found myself going to the shop for a pint of milk and staying there chatting to the lady behind the counter for almost an hour! The bar/restaurant staff could not do enough for the customers, they treated holidaymakers like they were in a five star hotel, the service was superb. And the food - mouthwatering, I quit cooking and ate in the restaurant the rest of my break. The evening entertainment was great, Cosmos Cousins were the name of the band, the female vocalist had a particularly amazing voice and is a waste of talent in cabaret! She should be in the charts with a voice like that. The bar supervisor was a Hungarian lady who was also qualified in massage. I booked in for a full body massage, the price was very reasonable. She was professional and I have to say it was the best massage I have ever had. Afterwards I returned to my caravan and fell into a deep relaxing sleep. The children visiting seemed really impressed with Maxi and Millie, and the entertainments manager was a hoot!
All in all it turned out to be a fabulous holiday and I didn't want to leave. I arrived at Grannies not knowing anyone, the staff were strangers. When I left, I left friends, not staff. I loved it so much I tried in vain to book again for August to take my children along, but the site was fully booked. Not to be put off, I have booked a holiday cottage right next to the caravan park and will use the facilities at Grannies as far as I can.

We stayed at this campsite about two years ago and we enjoyed our stay. Our only problem was that our caravan was too near the club The campsite was adequate for our stay, we saw no dirty toilets. A campsite for us is just a base for us as we enjoyed the scenery and the wildlife. The staff were friendly and helpful. A few miles down the road was Loch Fleet, which is a nature reserve. We spent hours there watching the seals. You do need transport however as the site is in the middle of nowhere except for the small Burgh of Dornoch. We are going back to the campsite again in October.

Just spent one day to try out the campsite and was delighted! It is situated right on the coast and the views and scenery are fantastic. There are static, touring and tent pitches all in an enclosed yet spacious site. The facilities include a play park and crazy golf, arcades, pubs and restaurants, a shop, along with entertainment throughout the day for both children and adults. Ablutions and cleaning areas were all clean and tidy, and it is only 2 minute walk to beautiful beach and rock pools. A dog walking area is provided but with the beach so close it was beginning to get over run with foliage. There is also a swimming pool, but unfortunately it was closed for maintenance when we were there. Loved it and would recommend to anyone

I have to agree with the previous review - we went to the toilet as soon as we arrived as the kids were desperate only to find toilet paper all over the floor which stayed there for the remainder of the day - for a relatively new shower block I was surprised to see black mould climbing the walls and admit that following that experience I took to showering in the caravan! The location of the site is beautiful with a long clean sandy beach and lots of rock pools at the other end - it is just a shame the weather did not permit us to stay there all day. The swimming pool is small and the changing rooms even smaller with some of the lockers having lots their keys I would advise not to take any valuables along with you. The entertainment was as we expected - very much geared for the children and they loved it! personally could not wait for the kids show to end so we could retreat to the van. The laundry facilities were extremely busy and expensive in comparison to other sites I have used. The pitches were spaced out however no-one seemed to monitor these as someone two pitches down had used too much space - we pitched where we were told to and then when our immediate neighbours arrived the following day had to park their van so close we could not open our windows fully - we would have complained but they were only staying one night. The ground is not level and there were a few tents which were flooded over night when it rained. There is a shop on-site but take your credit card! We will not be returning to this site much to the disappointment of the children.

Reading the rave reviews we decided to go there for a few days. We stayed one night and we won't go back again. First, we were welcomed by a stinky smell from the pig's farm nearby and the smell never went away. I'm amazed that no one mentioned this before because it was quite overwhelming. The toilets and showers were dirty and some were malfunctioning (eventually some of the toilets were closed because they were overflowing and not flushing). The inside heated swimming pool was "tinsy" (as my little girl mentioned) and one had to book in advance a 50 minutes session, because only 29 people were allowed to stay in it at one time (I say stay because I could not imagine them all swimming in such a small space) and we were told that it was constantly overbooked. In the evening, at the restaurant door there were two small children fighting, one of them with a bleeding head and no parents in sight. The pig's smell finally defeated us and we left the next day giving up our measly 50 minutes session in the swimming pool. If this is the "best site in Scotland", God save the rest.

Stayed for the weekend, and agree with other reviewers the beach is stunning also the surrounding area is beautiful. However at times there were not many staff on duty, the restaurant and chip shop closed early without notification, the machines in the arcade were not all working and on one night someone threw chips down the stairs and these were still there the next morning. Not a good sign. Other than that the caravans are well equipped and in excellent order, the staff are friendly and it is a very relaxing spot.

Excellent site with wonderful facilities. I won't say any more as it speaks for itself. This was our first holiday in Scotland for some time. Our 8 yr old daughter preferred this to 'exotic' holidays abroad so went and bought a tourer.no more hanging about departure lounges. Hooray! We will be back.
