Stayed just 1 night here and never again! The toilet block is exactly as previously described, dated, not particularly clean. Only 2 toilets in the ladies, one of which the flush was broken. You can imagine! Definitely needs some money spent on improvements.
On a positive note, the site is easily accessible from the motorway and quite well signposted but is in a run down part of the town.
Reception was cool to say the least even when trying our best to speak French. Disinterested to the point of rudeness.
We awoke the following morning to find that several units had been broken into whilst their owners were asleep and valuable items such as satnavs and laptops had been stolen. So beware!

Chalons-en-Champagne is a pleasant town with parks, several open squares and plenty of restaurants and consequently well worth a visit. If only the Camping Municipal could live up to the town.
On the plus side, the site is not far from the autoroute, fairly easy to find and with reasonable access. The pitches, mostly hard standing, are of reasonable size and flat. They all have 16 amp electricity and water and drainage adjacent to each pitch.
However, a big negative is the toilet and shower facilities. Hot water is intermittent, not one shower cubicle on the men's side had all the fittings in place (shelves, hooks and seats were missing)and where plumbing repairs had been carried out the work was shoddy and covered in mould growth.
If a one night stop is required this site might just be acceptable but certainly not for any longer.

Although still called a Camping Municipal the site was in fact purchased in May 2010 by a private company called Aquadis Loisirs who own various sites in France. The site is located in Châlons next to a small lake and park and can be accessed from both the A26 and A4. Reception staff speak English and will also take orders for bread etc, a small number of items can also be purchased here. A Snack Van/Take Away is located on site and there was once a restaurant and bar but this is now closed.
Various pitch types are available at the site ranging from hardstanding serviced to grass with no electric therefore prices vary accordingly. The majority of pitches are well defined being separated by hedges and trees. Pitches with electric are rated at 10 amps and a service pitch will have both a water tap and waste outlet. There are 3 sanitary blocks on site (1 is small but heated) which are kept clean but are looking a bit tired and in need of refurbishment or replacement, they can also be stretched when the site is full.
As previously stated this site is located in Châlons itself therefore its proximity to the town means you will sometimes get workers staying on the site especially during the “Foire de Châlons-en-Champagne” in early September. However this appears to cause no issues and the site can serve both as a night halt and a base to tour the local area but we would recommend booking in advance in high season and early September.
As to what improvements the new owners will make we are unsure at this time although they have already added a few new mobile homes for rent. Due to the sites popularity as a night halt/short break destination it would benefit from new or refurbished sanitary blocks, restaurant and bar, watch this space!

Close to the delightful town of Chalons de Champagne and a 20 minute walk with a few boulageries and a small shop nearby. The staff were friendly and the site had a nice feel to it, good large pitches with all services nearby, the sanitary facilities were rather run down and need total refurbishment though and the site take away/restaurant is all boarded up and has apparently been closed for some time. There was a fish and chip van in the evening and a wine/champagne tasting kiosk, which of course we purchased just a few !.
The site does need some tender loving care as it has obviously not had any money spent on it since the new company have taken it over, but overall a nice experience and would visit again, just get those toilets and showers sorted out.

We stayed here for 3 nights, to give us chance to visit Epernay (25 mins away, champagne centre, tours etc)and Chamapagne region and then have ease of access back to Calais (about 4 hours)
It is easy to find, just follow 'camping' signs and is 5 mins from a large Carrfour supermarket.
There is also an adorable bakery with lovely cakes within walking distance!
All the reception staff were very friendly and helpful - you can order bread and croissants for the morning there and they froze our cool blocks for our coolbox when we asked for free.
The pitches were very spacious and they obviously tried to situate newcomers at least a pitch apart from other people. There is a nice balance of shade and sun too.
The toilet blocks at the back of the tent section were better than the ones near reception, however the only mirror with plug sockets (for hairdryers etc) was in the reception area blocks. They weren't the best facilities we stayed at as they are a bit dated, but they were generally well kept.
The campsite bar/takeaway was still closed (As the reviewer from 2010 said) so it looks unlikely that they will be reopening it. Instead there was a good roti chicken van which visits Wed, Fri, Sat I think. There was also a chip/hot dog van which we got some chips from on our first night but it was pretty run down and not very popular.
A good children's park, badminton nets and a tennis court were all available too.
Overall, although it could benefit from some modernising a good well priced bet especially if you want to visit Epernay as their municipal has bad reviews.

I would endorse all the recent comments regarding this site. Good sized pitches, quiet, secure, friendly, VERY easy to find, handy for HUGE Carrefour in 2 mins drive, town centre is in easy reach by foot or bike, amazing bakery on the doorstep, perfectly adequate pitch facilities. I would also echo the comment that the toilet block is tired - but kept clean and tidy. Hopefully new management will spend a few Euros on this. BUT don't be put off. 'Tired' doesn't mean dirty or non functional! It's just not pretty - but then it IS only a toilet block! Very useful base for the area and in easy reach of Dover/ Calais / Dunkirk for a breather, perhaps for a day or two, before setting off again to further destinations.
Finally, can be reached easily WITHOUT using Le Peage motorways thereby avoiding motorway tolls and doing so in ONLY around 30 minutes more than Monsieur Google told me I could do it using the expensive motorways from Dunkirk! And the route was much much prettier and interesting - even though I ran parallel to the motorways an awful lot.

We used this site for an overnight stop between Switzerland and Dunkerque. It was a last minute decision as we had planned to stop elsewhere.
Anyway, after leaving the A4 at the Chalons exit and following the signs to the town we soon picked up the signs to the site. Previous reviews are spot on, the site is well signposted.
We arrived to find a well ordered site with an excellent reception. Good English was spoken so we had no problems.
We were directed to a hard standing good sized pitch with 10 amp EHU, water and grey waste. The toilet/shower facilities are dated but spotlessly clean.
Signs back to the motorway are excellent.
We will return, maybe next time we'll stay a couple of days.

This is a well laid out municipal site which is now (since about may 2010) in private hands. The flat grassed pitches for tents are spacious and separated by a hedge or marked out by young trees. The caravan pitches are neat, hedged and gravelled. The toilet/wash block by the tent area was clean and the showers powerful and hot. Despite a steady turnover of overnighters, these did not get overcrowded (we stayed 3 nights). The bar area is shut apparently for renovation, but there is a chip/burger van on site, and the huge supermarket (as mentioned by previous reviewer) is a 2 minute drive: Good for cheap Gas refills and with a couple of 'camping' aisles but not open on Sundays. There is a small playground and fishing lake with ducks right next door to the campsite too.
The town itself is quite pretty but the main attraction is nearby Epernay, (25 minute drive) with a range of tours around the 'caves' and the vineyards. We went to the Mercier cellars with a mini train tour and weren't disappointed.

We stayed on this site twice this holiday, for 3 nights each time, having booked in advance following all the positive reviews. I can see that it is an excellent stopover site, but for a longer stay we were slightly disappointed in the site, especially on our first visit.
However, there were lots of positives: friendly, efficient and welcoming staff in Reception; the best baguettes of the holiday ordered the evening before from Reception; although very busy with overnighters it was really quiet and peaceful day and night; the small park and lake which formed part of the site; the easy access and excellent situation of the site - Chalons is an attractive little town with lovely squares and park areas, well worth a visit. We especially appreciated how cycle friendly it is, with many cycle paths and a great new towpath alongside the canal. We had a great day out (by car) following part of the Champagne trail in the Montagne de Reims, ending up (deliberately) at the Canard-Duchêne Champagne house in the village of Ludes - although not as 'flash' as the tours of the houses based in Reims and Epernay, the champagne is excellent and, unusually, cheaper than in the supermarkets!
Now the disappointments: although the pitches were uniformly of a good size with water and drainage to each pitch, we would have liked much more grass between the pitches to sit out and enjoy the sunshine - on our second visit we were given an 'outside' pitch with a large grassy area behind and to the side of it, and it made such a difference; the toilet block near reception had problems on both visits - the men's toilets were blocked/flooded for 1 day the first time and there was no water available so the whole block was closed for a day the second time - even when working correctly, they seemed
'tired' - overdue some modernisation; this was the most expensive site of our holiday, although there was a discount of 20% for more than 2 nights which was very welcome, but we did not feel it was worth the extra 5 euros a night over the average cost of our sites.
Incidentally, the site is no longer a municipal site - it has recently been taken over by a company called Aquadis Loisirs - and they seem to be trying to improve things, for example, the snack bar has been closed for health and safety reasons and has been temporarily replaced by an on-site Friterie / chip van, so hopefully a modernisation programme will be put in place.
Having said all that, yes we would stay here again if in the area but probably just overnight.

We used this site for an overnight stop to and from our main destination. The site is well signposted and the lady at reception was very helpful and spoke good English. Our pitch was level hardstanding and being a twin axle we had to do a little manoeuvring with the motor mover.
The site facilities are a little dated, but were ok to use. The bar at the entrance to the site was permanently shut on account of the site having changed ownership, instead there was a 'friterie' snack van open from six in the evening.
As an overnight stop it was fine - the only worries from a security point of view were the amount of non campers wandering around the site in the evening.
