We really fancied this site for a peaceful weekend having read the reviews.
Only a couple of other caravans on the site over the weekend but lots of assorted family camping units peaking at 7 tents with over 20 inhabitants on Saturday night filling the small field with football playing kids and uncontrolled dogs. So much for peace and quiet!
The facilities just about coped as long as you wern't in a hurry, with the site owners valiantly trying to clear up the mess left by the families.
Tea rooms and farm shop fantastic.Particularly the breakfasts.
Martin Inn still shut but lots of other eateries within a short distance, the best of which were the Farmer's Arms, just along the canal at New Lane and the Elephant Indian Restraunt near the canal bridge at Scarisbrick.
The local footpath network towards Martin Mere has been changed to include a free reedbed walk complete with hides.
A gem of a site, sheltered and quiet most of the time but be prepared not to have it to yourself.

This is a small 5 van site with electric hook up on a gently sloping field. The facilities (toilet and shower) are pretty basic but were sufficient for us as we have facilities in the caravan. It was a very peaceful site with a farm shop / tea room which was very busy whilst we were there.
The pub down the road had closed unfortunately but that didn't bother us too much as we had chosen the site for a peaceful few days. It is close to Ormskirk which is a small busy town with a market on certain days.
Would definitely visit again as it was most relaxing. The one thing I was not too happy with was actually getting there as the roads have lots of bends and the directions from their website seem to take you the longest and most difficult route.

We stayed at this quiet little site for Valentines weekend. There is an area of hardstanding for 4 - 5 caravans and a gently sloping field. We enjoyed our stay although we found the facilities to be in need of a clean. There are 2 toilets, a shower and a washing up sink in a barn which whilst basic would be perfectly acceptable if cleaned regularly. Maybe we were just unlucky as we were there out of season.
There is a farm shop and cafe on site which were open on both the Saturday and Sunday we were there. They both seemed to be very popular, although we didn't have time to visit either.
Site is close to both Southport and Liverpool. There is a pub 5 minutes walk down the road which we didn't use.
All in all, an ideal site for a quiet weekend. Just wish the facilities had been cleaner!

We have stayed here several times in a touring caravan and the site is improving all the time. The facilities are basic, 2 toilets and 1 shower, plus a large sink for pot washing all in a converted barn and kept clean. The site is small, I think there are about 5 hook ups and room for tents. Great for a quiet family weekend. The owners are very friendly and helpful and they sell their own home grown produce. Not too far from Southport and Burscough for shops and entertainment and there are plenty of family pubs in the vicinity and a huge carboot through the summer on a Sunday. We've been to many campsites and this is one of the best!

A lovely rural site with basic but most acceptable amenities. During June and July of 2008 I visited several times through working in the area.
Plenty of electric points for those who want it.
The most memorable issue for me was the friendliness of the people running the site. A small farm-shop and Tea-room are ajacent and I understand that an excellent breakfast is available.
A short stroll away is the Martin Inn where I had several excellent (and inexpensive) meals.
