Brilliant site. Ideal if you have a pet. Bernadette's cooking first class. Wind Guy up by calling him Guy (to rhyme with spy) He likes it to rhyme with sea, and tell him he does not pay enough tax! Ideal for Ypres and the Flanders battlefields.
Will return as soon as we can. Loved it there. Pitches surrounded by tall hedges, so sheltered from wind.

Less than an hour from Dunkerque yet in nice surroundings this site is perfectly situated to start your camping holiday in France. We stayed two nights at the start of our holiday and liked it so much we stayed again on the way back to the UK.
We ate at the restaurant and the food was probably the best we had whilst in France and the best value for money by a long way. Guy told us that it was the last night of the restaurant but it was unclear if he meant the last night of this year or the last night ever, so I would be interested to know if anyone else eats there in the future.
The site seems geared towards caravans and campervans. The site is very nice with flowers around the site. We were the youngest couple there by a fair way but did not feel awkward as everyone was very friendly. Most people seemed to be travelling with dogs and Guy has two lovely dogs of his own, they may well bark at you when you first arrive, but once they realise you're friendly they're fine.
The amenities block is reasonable and even in October wasn't too cold. I would definitely stay here again on the start of a holiday to France.

We stopped here on the first night of our honeymoon. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, they thought it was hilarious that we were on our honeymoon and camping!
A lovely campsite and we would definitely stop over here again as it is very convenient for Dunkerque.

We would endorse the other recent reviews of La Chaumiere. Guy (in his slightly gruff way) and Bernadette make everyone very welcome at their lovely site, which is spotlessly maintained. The bar/restaurant is very pleasant and Bernadette's home cooking is excellent.
Bernadette arranged our appointment at the vet (where she works) and he was very efficient. We will certainly return.

This is the best site we have ever stayed at. We found it when returning from a 3 month trip to France, Italy, Germany because we were looking for a vet for our dogs prior to returning to the UK. We have used the site several times since and stayed for a week on one occasion and visited local WW1 & WW2 sites. In June 2007 we were unlucky and had our motorhome broken into in Dunkirk. We went straight to La Chaumier where Guy contacted the local Autoglass centre in St Omer and made all the arangements to have new window glass fitted and both he and his wife Bernadette made us very welcome. Can' wait to go back again this year and enjoy a few beers in the bar.

This site, without doubt, is the most welcoming one we have ever visited. It is situated within easy walking distance of the pleasant country village of Buysscheure and the nearest towns of any size are St Omer and Cassel. St Omer in particular, has an excellent range of shops, including an Auchan hypermarket.
The site has 29 grassed pitches, most of which are very large and incorporate an area of hardstanding. The sanitary block, that is to say, toilets, showers, washing-up area and washing machine area, are kept scrupulously clean by Guy, the owner who is always on hand and invariably ready to help. The site has a small playground for children, a mini-golf, a boules area, a fishing pond, an archery area, an immaculate swimming pool, and a bar and restaurant near the site entrance. In the evening, the bar is an excellent place to meet up, should you so wish, but it never intrudes into the peaceful atmosphere of the site. At weekends throughout the low season, and more often during the high season months, delicious very reasonably-priced meals, typical of the region, are prepared and served in the restaurant by Guy's wife, Bernadette. As well as being a talented cook, Bernadette works during the week as a nurse-receptionist at the local vet's surgery. This useful link means that, should you be travelling with your pets, you can pre-book the necessary appointment for your pet's veterinary treatment prior to return to the UK, via Guy and Bernadette's good offices.
Camping la Chaumiere is ideal for both long and short stays, located as it is, in splendid walking or cycling countryside, very close to WW1 and WW2 sites and yet extremely convenient for Calais, Boulogne and Dunkirk. It is a measure of how successful Guy and Bernadette have been in creating such a wonderful atmosphere at la Chaumiere, that they have numerous regular visitors who return to the site year after year.

This site is ideal for anyone visiting Northern France or for a stop off. It is about 40 minutes from Calais and 30 minutes from Dunkerque. It is situated just outside the village, in quiet countryside, ideal for cycling, walking or just relaxation.
It is especially useful for anyone with pets as the owner's wife, Bernadette, works at the local vets and can arrange the necessary appointment prior to returning to the UK. It is great for dogs as there are plenty of quiet footpaths leading from the site.
The site is kept clean and tidy. There is a swimming pool, crazy golf, a small fishing lake and a children's play area. Some large pitches have recently been added.
At weekends excellent meals are served in the restaurant/bar at a very reasonable price. During July and August food is available every evening.
We have stayed at this site several times and have always received a very warm welcome. The owner, Guy, and his wife speak very good English which along with their sense of humour creates a friendly atmosphere in the bar.
This is a small site so booking is advised.

Stayed here for our first 2 nights and last 2 nights in France. We were made to feel very welcome by Guy, the owner, who as well as working hard keeping the site clean and tidy also ran the bar / restaurant. We originally booked because of the link with the Vet in St Omer. We emailed our booking and requested an appointment with the Vet for our return journey. This was done to our great satisfaction, negating any worries we had as first time travelers abroad with our dog.
The site was on the edge of a lovely little village, which we walked into on a few occasions - visiting one of the two small bars for a refreshing beer. The site had a small children's play area, a mini golf and a swimming pool. In the evening the site bar was a focal point with a very sociable atmosphere created by Guy and his wife Bernadette. We are returning to France again this year and look forward to our visit to La Chaumiere.

We spent 3 nights here on the way home. The sites main attraction for us was the links with the vets at St Olmer ( The wife of the owner is the receptionist, and they offer reductions for the treatment needed under PETS before returning home). The site was acceptable but nothing great, except for the restaurant which was excellent. The individual pitches were grass with alternative hard standing. The site is in the countryside, but there is a small shop within walking distance. The main eurostar line is quite close by and we were aware of noise from the trains. Excellent if you have a dog for your return to UK otherwise only fair
