My partner, two friends and I visited cross farm for the weekend, we arrived Friday and left Sunday, we could arrive and leave when we wanted which was good for us.
The pitch was good size and the ground was firm although it did rain a bit it was never sludgy and the grass could do with a cut. We had electric hook up and cost was good at 20 per night as we had two tents, one of which was very large.
We picked cross farm as it was only about a half hour drive (21miles) from alton towers. There are also supermarkets close enough to the site (4 miles). The owner came down when we arrived and he was friendly and we could choose our pitch.
The only downside was the toilets and shower, they were always clean and never busy during our stay but could do with more than one lady's toilet and shower. The mens were bigger and did have more than one shower and toilet, also they could both do with some modernising.
This is a basic site but quiet and I think we would return if we was going back to alton towers.

This campsite was very useful on arrival were greeted by a lady that lives there in a static she was very polite, the owner turned up later also very helpful and helped occasionally.
The facilities are reasonable and the showers good especially the control which was preset temperature good hot water for washing dishes outside facilities,
The toilets are good,
I was pitched by the campsite road not recommended as the ground is hard, lower down ok
The location 2 mile from burton shopping centre
Good for the brewery tour and canal boats no hire anymore,
There is many pubs which are good landmarks for
Getting about,p.S.Best bitter in burton on trent
Try Martsons, the nearest shop to the campsite at cross farm is half an hour walk or 5mins if you have wheels and a pub close by the spread eagle a bit pricey its a-la-carte menu overall
A good visit all without a satnav from the Isle of Man.

We picked this campsite because it was near to Alton Towers (half hour drive away). The camp site is a basic site, open to caravans and tents and open all year round. When we visited it was in the school holidays during June and the weather was glorious. To our surprise the campsite was not busy and we had much of the site to ourselves.
The site is a large open field with plenty of space. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. We could pitch our tent anywhere we wanted and there was loads of space for the kids to play. There were plenty of electric hook ups.
The toilet/shower block was not quite finished but perfectly usable which has been done to a good standard. The is also a sink for washing pots etc. We were charged £10 per night. The site is a short distance from most conveniences. The site is difficult to find so make sure you check the route prior to setting off.

This site is nice to relax. There is only 1 slide and 1 swing for children. There is a fishing lake being constructed at the present so keep the little ones away.
The shower block is not bad but Dave the owner has still got a lot to do to finish it. There are people living on the site and seem to be permanent which is a bit off putting.
For ten pounds a night it's not bad. We found derby and burton in easy reach and very good for the shops and a bite to eat

We have visited this site quite a few times now and every time the site gets better and better, the owners philosophy is that camping holidays should be cheap and not pay extra for a dog and an awning and this that and the other, a philosophy he should be highly commended for.
There are various water points around the site so wherever you are you won't be far away from one, the same applies to hook ups. There is the original single flush toilet as well as the new, ever developing shower block, this is under construction still although the family wet room and toilet is fully functioning for now.
The CDP and waste water point are next to each other by the original toilet. It can get windy there because of its location but there are good views towards burton upon trent. The location makes it an ideal site for alton towers, drayton manor, burton brewery tours and uttoxeter racecourse visits.
Facilities for the children include small swings, slides, bikes and scooters that the owner leaves out for the children to use. There are also 2 goalnets for football and ball games are not allowed around the units but have to be played by these nets lower down the field.
In the nearby village there is a co-op, newsagents and butchers, within a couple of miles there is a small sainsburys local and an amazing chip shop (wiggeston St) There are a few pubs nearby but not what I would call walking distance.
All in all this site is ever improving with extensive landscaping going on which will make this great site outstanding in the years to come. We will continue to go and highly recommend it especially for the peace and feelgood factor.

The site is one that is obviously under construction. The toilet block comprises of a family room (toilet, shower, sink all in one) with another toilet in a plastic shed. The main toilet is clean until someone with muddy boots walks all around with out using the mop provided!
The site itself is on a hillside - so can be very windy (putting the awning up we tore it with the wind - but after that afternoon it calmed down). It is not a horrendous slope but chocks will be needed.
Only 10 mins away from Burton and 35 from Birmingham itself.Sainsburys local 5 mins away.
Downside is wasps. There were hundreds of them.We could not even sit outside in a morning with a coffee without being pestered. In his defense the farmer admitted there were more than usual but he could not locate nests on his property.
We arrived on a thursday and by monday the bins were overflowing adding to the wasp problem. We left monday after lunch and all the bins were still full.
We have been caravanning for 3 yrs only admittedly. But this is the first time that we ( 2 adults and 2 kids) have wanted to leave a site early. We were due to stay until tuesday but left monday morning.
I have no doubt that another year will see more improvement. But at the cost per night it is a bargain anyways. We will go back but will leave it a year or two to see how it changes.

We have just returned form a weekend stay at Beacon Hill Camp Site and can only say it was the best value for money ever! The farmer, as said before is very friendly and even gave us a voucher for alton towers as we said we were going there for the day. He even let us put our dog in his kennel for the day whilst we were out. The shower room is designed for disabled access and is therefore quite large and like a wet room, and is kept very clean, there is one other single toilet unit which is older looking but still useable. I hope the site doesnt get too modern and the rates increase, as it is a very affordable stopping place for those on a tight budget.

Cross Farm is fab. Limited facilities 1 shower with toilet in 1 room and 1 porta loo but ok for the amount of pitches available. The only thing I would say was there was hundreds of wasps. I asked the farmer and he said he had burnt a couple of nests that day well you can imagine they had no nest to go to so there was loads and that's the only thing that spoilt it for me really. Not put me off too much we are going again on the bank holiday weekend and hopefully they will have dwindled to only a few.

This camp site is a little gem, tucked away but easy to find just off the A38 with the aid of a Sat Nav. Camp site is located up a private semi made up road so it can be a bit bumpy for caravan towing but easily achieved. Site is a field - level at the top with approx 10 pitches available with EHU, the field then slopes away and is not really suitable for tents but fine for caravans and tourers with levellers, no EHU is available on the sloped part but if you have extension on your EHU the owner would definitely accommodate. (i.E. Have 40mtr length of cable). On the slope there are 2-3 real campfire spots to have a real fire and wood is available on site. BBQ's are allowed but consider the grass and raise it off the ground with bricks (also available on site). TV reception excellent. Owner (retired farmer) is great and not intrusive but goes out of his way to help, even provided us with a 20mtr extension for the EHU without charge. No playground on site but plenty of play equipment for the kids, e.G. Bikes, trampolines, old tractor to play on. Only one toilet on site but it is excellent with disabled access, open plan shower so very easy for disabled persons. Plenty of hot water. Owner is building (50% complete) a new shower/toilet block and this will really enhance the camp site when completed. No facility to wash pots/pans, have to use the toilet washbasin, There is a small port-a-cabin toilet for use when the main one is in use. Warning - There is a large water run off pit at the bottom of the field used I think for storm water run off, it was empty (approx 6ft deep) at the time of the visit, but would pose a risk to small children if partially full as no fencing is provided, so be aware. No shop on site, so get yourself stocked up beforehand. Kids had a great time flying kites from the field, so take them along. Site was quiet when we visited (Sat/Sun night). Take a torch as well as lighting is limited. Alton towers is 40 min drive,
Last but not least £8/night for a tent including EHU.(large tent 4 persons) Need I say more.If you are not too fussed about life's luxury then pay this site a visit.

We booked this site after reading the reviews, and generally they were correct. The site is a little difficult to find as there is no sign at the end of the road, but I'm sure this will be rectified. There is plenty of space in the large field although some of it is on a slope, the grass is good and an effort has been made to plant gardens etc. The greatest problem for us was the toilet facilities, at the moment there is 1 toilet and 1 combined toilet/shower, on the Sunday morning there were 6 tents, some with families, and the facilities were in constant use, we got fed up of waiting and went out unwashed. The facilities are being built at the moment, so maybe next year? The village is a 15 min walk away, plenty of good pubs to eat in.
Because we were all fairly close together, a party on the Friday night kept us awake until nearly 1 am, and on the Saturday night, the children's' slides had been moved close to the tents and vans, and the children were playing out in the dark and rain until 11 pm. Sunday night was lovely and peaceful. Very cheap at £8 per night.
