Spent the bank holiday weekend here, with two teenage girls. I did ring a week or two before the bank holiday weekend to check availability as everywhere was full, and to book, but the farmer said you just turn up, so we did.
The site is situated about two miles out of Thornton-le-Dale, down a single country road with virtually no traffic. The site was brilliantly located in beautiful surroundings next to Dalby forest.
The camping field is at the back of the farmhouse, through a farm gate at the side of the conservatory where the farmer sits, where you pay.
The toilets are at the side of the farm house and access to them from the field is through a small gate. Opposite the toilets was a skip which we threw our rubbish in.
The camping field is quite long, the first quarter appeared very flat, with a couple of picnic benches, the water tap, and had about 5 caravans on it, as you venture further down the field, there is a dip which gets quite wet, almost a dyke, after this the middle area of field, which seemed to get water logged in places, (we pitched here as we didn't find out about the waterlogging until the day after, but we must have dropped on lucky as our patch was ok)
The far end of the field had quite a few tents/caravans down there, might have been a group, and that area didn't seem to get waterlogged. With regard pitches, you can camp where you like, within reason, and can have as much space as you need, which was ideal as we had a bell tent with a massive footprint.
Its true, the Site is about as basic as it gets, but we didn't expect anything less after reading the other reviews. However, at ten pound per night while all other campsites were full, we thought it a bargain, and as our weekend was planned full of activities, (Go Ape, cycling, north yorkshire moors steam railway, whitby abbey, eden camp etc) we only needed somewhere as a base.
We took our bikes and could go from the campsite into the forest on them, (Blue route) therefore avoiding the vehicle fee charged on the gate at Dalby forest.
The site itself has a stream running down the side of it with some strategically placed rope swings along its banks, so although there was no children's play park, the children we saw, and my two teenagers, had hours and hours of fun in the stream, and on the swings. It's recommended to take wellies, spare clothes, and a fishing net.
As other reviews have stated, the showers were located at the other side of the road/lane in a small touring park, there were no ques when we used them, and for a pound in the meter got you plenty of hot water for a decent shower.
We must agree that the toilets were very very basic, something resembling a derelict stone shed with two toilets in the ladies and cold water in the basin sink, and a mirror. It as quite dark in there(better at night when the light goes on) so if you don't have time for your eyes to adjust, take a torch, and your own loo roll as none is provided.
Fresh eggs were available from the farm, and were a welcome breakfast, no other items seemed to be for sale, but Thornton-le-Dale was only 15 minutes walk, or a quick bike ride, and was fully stocked with local convenience shops, fish and chips, etc.
To summarise, if you want an all singing all dancing site with your every need catered for then don't come here, but if you just want to have freedom to pitch and play, low farm is ideal, I would definitely come again.

I camped here with a group of friends on a very cold weekend! The campsite has very basic facilities, showers and toilets could do with a really good clean. The campsite is relaxed and we pitched a group of tents with a gazebo in the middle with no problem. We were also able to light a small campfire to keep us warm! The location makes up for the facilities, the site is in a lovely area. The stream which runs all the way into Thornton le Dale is a lovely walk. My only complaint would be that the price we were quoted (twice) on the phone was changed when we arrived as it was an all adult group, we had made this clear on the phone and were quoted £10 per tent which was raised to £20. This disagreement took the shine of what would have been a lovely weekend in a beautiful area.

My friend an I went for a few nights.
We were very pleased with the location and how beautiful it was. It was very tranquil being in a field surrounded by old trees and the sound of the stream running past.
The toilets were basic but worked and were only a short distance from where we pitched. There were showers, again basic but did the job.
This site is perfect for people wanting to be close to the forest or Thornton le dale. It is all within walking or biking distance and so the pub or shops not far away either.
I will definitely recommend this site to my fellow campers but it is basic and take your own supplies like hand wash and toilet roll.
The nice thing also is you didn't have to book and there was plenty of space.
Thanks

This site is basically a farm. It's in a beautiful setting with lots of room to spread out and no traffic noise which is bliss.
The track adjacent to the site eventually merges with the blue cycle route in Dalby forest and is a fantastic bonus for walkers and bikers.
We are seasoned campers and have to say that the campsite facilities are about as basic as we've experienced, eg no; hot water in loo's, loo paper or washing up facility.
There was no sink at all in the men's loo. Spiders and creepy crawlies don't bother me but the loos could definitely do with cleaning on a regular basis, the abundance of cobwebs full of midges and flies just didn't make us feel like valued customers.
We didn't use the showers as we came home early because of the torrential rain, which eventually saturated the field.
We know that if the sun had been shining our experience of this site would have been different and we'll go again because it's a perfect base from which to play in the forest on our bikes.
We'll just make sure we take plenty of loo roll and more wet wipes to compensate for the lack of hot water.

Had a great weekend at this site. It's not possible to book at this site, it's a case of just turn up. I don't know why it's run like this but I guess that's how the farmer prefers it. Dogs are allowed but must be kept under control on the site.
The site is a very large field which is surrounded by trees and a small beck that encircles the farm. There are toilets, a water tap, EHUs and CDP. The toilets are clean but there are cobwebs so be warned if you have dramatic teenagers! There are also showers and theses can be found over the road from the site in a small static caravan area that the farmer owns. A token is needed for the showers but they last for ages, enough time to shower self and little ones.
There are signs up saying no camp fires but it seemed that most people had fires. The farmer must be ok with this as he seems to spend most of the time in his conservatory watching over the site and didn't say anything. I have to say, it's great having a fire and I wish more places would allow it.
The site itself is in a great location. It's very close to Dalby Forest and it is possible to walk directly into the forest from a number of public footpaths which are close to the farm.
Thornton le Dale is a short walk away and is safe to do at night (with torches) as very little traffic uses the road. Thornton le Dale has some great pubs (which allow dogs in) and is good for supplies. It's got a small supermarket, chippy, cafe, pubs (serving food), fab ice scream shops etc. Pickering is also very close by if you need to visit a larger supermarket.
Overall, this is a great site if you are visiting North Yorkshire Moors, Dalby Forest (Go Ape), Yorkshire Ckoast, North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway etc.
