We really liked this site, it had all we were looking for, peace and quiet, wonderful views and scenery, great walks, and very reasonable cost!
We arrived the day after the August Bank holiday, so were hoping that the site had emptied out a bit, and we were not disappointed, there were only a few tents on the site, but to be honest it would take a lot for this site to be overcrowded, there is so much space!
The site is a working farm with a barn converted for toilets and showers, washing up facilities and a drinking water tap, and that is it, plain and simple.
There had been a lot of heavy rain, so the ground was very boggy in many areas, you choose where you pitch once you have paid at the farmhouse (we paid £31 for three nights!)
We chose to pitch at the bottom of the site, near the river, which was a lovely spot, but it was a long trek to the facilities, the only downside, but not a huge problem. Another reviewer suggested portaloos for the lower part of the site, but this would spoil the lovely open views in my opinion.
There are notices around asking for quiet after 10pm, this was adhered to, very peaceful at all times.
The site is dog friendly, although you need to keep the dog tethered or on a lead as there is livestock around all the time, but we did see many dogs off lead, not that this caused any problems when we were there, our dog loved his long walks, in fact seems to love camping anyway!
The facilities were spacious, plentiful and kept spotlessly clean, which was all the more remarkable given the muddy conditions, I cannot fault them at all.
There are absolutely lovely walks to be had directly from the site, we walked across the hills to Dungeon Ghyll, and I heartily recommend the Hikers Bar at the Old Dungeon Ghyll, as well as the scrumpy!
The food was hearty, delicious and reasonable, just the thing after a long walk.
There is also a Co-op about five minutes pleasant walk (away from main roads) and a cafe above, where a lovely cooked breakfast can be had in very clean and attractive surroundings with good service as well. We did look at the menu for the Wainwrights Inn, but it seemed overpriced, as well as seeming a bit overdeveloped rather than a good old fashioned local pub, which is what we prefer.
Ambleside is the nearest bigger town, we found this a really nice place, not crowded when we were there, and all you might need was there.
We will definitely return to this site, perfect for a few days to relax, walk and enjoy the stunning Langdale Pikes. I could say we would hope for better weather next time (we had some horrendous rain) but seriously, this is the Lake District, you don't come for tropical weather do you? The rain in no way detracted from our enjoyment of our stay.
10 out of 10 on all counts bar one (I marked child friendliness at 9/10 because of the river at the bottom of the site, care would need to be taken)

What a beautiful site! It's a big site on a farm with multiple pitches and beautiful views towards the Langdale Pikes.
The size of the site means that you don't feel you are on top of other campers and if you want a bit of seclusion it is pretty easy to find!
The facilities are basic but satisfactory, the showers and toilet blocks are well kept and clean.
The butty van at the weekend is popular and consequently it can take an age to get breakfast, recommend a trangia and a cool box to overcome this.
There are plenty of walks from the site and it is dog friendly, so if you're not keen on canines it's worth remembering!
Highly recommended site overall though!

This is a gem of a site beside the village of Chapel Stile in Cumbria. The site is accessed via a humpback bridge across the River Rothey then a track leads up to the farmhouse where you book in.
The site is split over 5 fields, two level ones at the bottom and the remaining ones on gentle slopes with many flat areas.
The single toilet block is adjacent to the house at the top of the site, a fair trek if you choose to pitch in the lower fields, the sinks are mounted high but at 6'1' that was no challenge to me. There are adequate facilities in the block including free showers heated by solar panels. We paid £5 per person per night plus £2. 50 per day for parking.
The site is designated as a family campsite and may refuse groups of more than 3 of the same gender. They request no noise or barbecues after 10:30 and no music at any time. We found it to be very peaceful throughout our stay.
There are three pubs within easy waling distance and a café next to the Co-op grocery not far from he entrance to the site.
There are several walks from the site and maps of two low level ones can be bought, if you are more adventurous, and suitably equipped, there are higher level walks. Whether you take advantage of these or not, the views from the site are spectacular and shouldn't be missed.
I would thoroughly recommend visiting.

Just returned from 6 nights at this lovely site, perfect location to explore the langdale area and beyond, campsite is basic but has everything you need.
We pitched in 1 of the lower fields which were reasonable flat, and well drained, the showers and toilet facilities are a little walk away at the farm, which during the heavy rain and at night became a bit of a chore, really could do with at least a portable loo in the lower areas.
Will definitely visit again, and hope for better weather.
2 adults and 2 dogs.
Didn't have kids with us so not scored the child friendly bit

Like the last review, we stayed over the Jubilee holiday weekend and, though it was incredibly busy, they were very helpful and still managed to fit us in.
They seem to take a fair bit of care about what sort of groups they accept, so we had no incidents of excessive noise after 11, and with mainly families there the kids quickly found new friends to play with.
It's a really scenic location - great for walking and there's also some good scrambling and rock climbing close by. The village is also really nice, and the village shop was extremely well stocked (perhaps a little expensive, but it's a co-operative, so I don't really care about that).
The toilet/wash block facilities were clean and well maintained. They were occasionally overwhelmed by the numbers, so queues for the showers at peak times, but that's not too surprising on a summer Bank Holiday weekend!
A couple of constructive (hopefully) suggestions: There seems to be only one place to get water on the whole site! There really should be a drinking water tap at the other end of the site.
Also, the hot water supply had trouble keeping up in the showers, which would run cold more often than hot when I tried. It should be simple to fit slightly more restricted heads on the showers to reduce that problem.

We are a family of three but were joined by 4 other families to camp 4 nights over the Jubilee weekend and the views from this campsite are spectacular. It is perfect for exploring Langdale.
The owners are very friendly and polite and nothing seemed too much trouble. The site has mainly flat fields although the ones nearest the toilet blocks were more sloped. We were quite far from the toilets but it all added to the fun. You do go to the lakes to walk anyway! Many people had to take their cars up to get water/use the toilets as it is a trek and in some respects this did detract as cars seemed to be constantly driving around the site.
The toilet/shower block is well maintained but the sinks are really high. If you are under 5 foot 6 inches they are not a good height. The showers were warm and free.
There is a stream and rope swings that kept the kids amused when we got back to the site after the walking. The village has a friendly store and they cannot be helpful enough and of course the local pub Wainrights inn has a fantastic menu - some may find it pricey but where we live its on a par so we didn't find the prices inflated. Again they couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.
We would definitely stay again.

Just returned from two nights camping at Baysbrown Farm.
We chose the site based on it's website and reviews, and for it's location and were not disappointed.
There are several spacious areas in which to pitch your tent, all predominately on the flat. The toilets and showers are spotlessly clean, and the other visitors were respectful of the ruling to make no noise after 10. 30pm.
The site is located an easy ten minute walk to the village of Church Stile with it's shop and pub 'The Wainwrights Inn'. Although handy, the pub is rather expensive for both food and drinks, but sadly this is commonplace in the Lake District. The food however, was excellent, even if vastly over priced.
The site is handy for exploring the beautiful Lakeland scenery, either on foot or by car.
I would certainly use this site again as a quiet base for a few days to enjoy the peace and beauty of the Lakes.

Stayed here August Bank Holiday. Called the site on Saturday morning, Told they had enough space for us although they warned us they were busy.
Turned up, paid our fee at the farmhouse and the site owner told us they had opened an extra field up.
Admittedly it was a fair way from they toilet block approx 1/3 mile. But then we did have more space and anyway we had taken our bicycles with us so wasn't really an issue.
The campsite was occupied by walkers rather than groups just wanting to drink all night like some campsites I have stayed at in fact very little noise after 9 o'clock.
Facilities were quite basic but very clean considering the weather! Within walking distance of a few nice pubs, although quite expensive they are good.
Will be back.

As a first time Camper I wasn't sure what to expect but when I got out of the car & saw the location I was delighted.
The scenery was stunning. The site is great for families. The kids loved playing in the stream & there was lots of space for running about.
Plenty of good walk in the area & its close enough to the Lakes if you want to visit, but not so close that its over run with people.
Lots of hot water, & you can get your phone/ipod etc charged for £2. Village shop is two mins away & 3 great pubs near by, although the spirits were a bit pricey (7 quid for a Double!). There's a bacon butty stall on site too.
Its an ideal location for first timers like me or the more experienced camper.
We will be back!

This site was lovely, it's very big and the views of the Langdales are stunning. Sited on a working farm the owner and his wife were friendly and approachable and not afraid to ask one rowdy group to respect other campers and keep their noise down. Having said that I was surprised to find any rowdy people there at all, the site is fairly remote.
The toilets were always clean and the water always hot, whatever time of day. At some point the site will need another toilet block as some folk had to walk a fair distance to get to it.
I would thoroughly recommend the site to anyone.
Chapel Stile is a small place with just the one shop about a mile from the campsite. There is a pub there too which has a path that goes directly to the site and I believe a very good menu.
