We stayed one night with motorbike & small tent, facilities very good & clean, price very reasonable & owners very friendly.
The views from site are stunning but we were also witness to a huge thunderstorm with deluges of rain - luckily our trusty tent never leaked!
We went to nearby Wainwrights Bar for meal & although extremely busy (it was Saturday night!) they fit us in & meal was very good value for money with real ale too! Had to laugh when worried customer queried if sheep wandering loose around car park were lost or had escaped and barman replied 'No this is Cumbria!'
Will definitely return to both campsite and pub! Mobile van selling bacon butties on the Sunday was much appreciated!

Stayed here on a Saturday night and we were very impressed.
The location in Chapel Stile is superb with stunning views. There are 3 very large flat areas for pitching tents etc. We chose the area nearest to the farm where the toilets and shower blocks were located. The facilities are very well kept and the showers are free (the swimming pool push button type).
The only downside is the lack of hooks for clothes in the showers and the fact that the sinks are set at about 4ft high which makes use by small children pretty much impossible. At 5'4' I found it uncomfortable leaning forward over the sink to spit when cleaning my teeth.
The price is very competitive compared to other local sites! (£5/adult, £3/child, £2.50/car)
Despite there being 100+ tents there this weekend the noise levels were quite low. There are notices stating it is a family site and not to make a noise after 10.30pm
On one of our walks we were able to check out the local establishments.
The Britannia Inn, Elterwater - good menu, good range of dishes, prices of main meals from £10 to £15ish. I had lamb henry and my partner had steak and ale pie. They were delicious!
The Eltermere Inn - quite posh, limited menu which is more expensive than the Britannia. Had a beer, which was dreadful.
Wainwrights' Inn, Chapel Stile- menu similar in price to the Britannia but more limited.
Chapel Stile has a co-op which sells a good range of goods, including camping basics (we forgot our kettle). It also has a cafe upstairs that does lunch and afternoon tea.

Stayed here for 2 nights mid may, and blown away by this place! Not only was it simply STUNNING, it was windy! Not the fault of the campsite, but a by-product of being in a stunning valley. Wasn't windy all the time, just when we were putting up and taking down the tent! Originally we were going to stay at The Croft at Hawkeshead but drove past it because it was on the main road, no view and not what we wanted. Tried Low Wray but that was £25 per night, and we'd have to be in the field where there was a school camping trip! NO WAY, this was our 3 days away from the kids! So, after driving around Ambleside, I pulled over, looked at this website on the phone and found favourable reviews for this site only 10 minutes away. I am SO GLAD that we went here.
There were 2 other tents on the whole site which incorporates a number of fields, and we had a whole field to ourselves! Not sure what it would like during school holidays though. The price was a bonus too. Slightly increased from previous reviews to £5 per adult, £3.50 per child and £2.50 per car or motorhome, all year round. It cost us £12.50 per night which was half the price of Low Wray and we didn't have to pay for our 2 dogs, windbreaks, gazebo or extra because we have a 7 metre 6 man tent!
The shower and toilet facilities are only close to 2 of the fields, near the farm house. The other fields are too far away to use them, but ideal for small motorhomes, but you probably wouldn't get a big one, or a caravan on the site and there's no EHU. There was hot water when I needed it, and blocks looked new, were always nice and clean below head height. Above headheight there are lots of cobwebs but then it did used to a barn. There's also a room for washing up pots and pans.
Wainwrights pub was nearby but it was very busy in the evening and the food and drinks were very expensive. Wouldn't want to go there in peak season. A short drive into the valley took us to the Sticklebarn which was a bit cheaper and still good food but with better views. Both pubs are dog friendly so they sat next to us in the pub while we ate. There's a village shop within walking distance of the campsite which had everything you could need at reasonable prices too. There's plenty of nice places to go and explore.
Pro's - The stunning scenery and surroundings, the facilities, the amenities within walking distance, the walks out from the campsite and definitely the price. Farmer and family were friendly and helpful too.
Con's - It is a working farm, so they are up early (before 7am) using machinery and the metal sheep box towed down the bumpy dirt driveway at 30mph by a diesel landrover is not a fun way to be woken up.
Despite this, we will definitely come back to this site. It is just so beautiful that the pro's far outweigh the con's. As soon as we got home we looked on Rightmove to see how much it would cost us to move there because we fell in love with the place.

Just came back after a long weekend with my girlfriend. It was my first weekend camping in years so I was apprehensive especially as we hadn't read any reviews of the place before we got there. We were supposed to be staying at Hawshead Hall site but due to a mix up it was fully booked so we rang Bayesbrown (they don't accept advanced bookings) and headed there.
And how glad I am that we did. Superb location. We are big walkers so it was ideal. You can walk to Ambleside in under 3 hours and come back via Rydal Water/Grasmere, stunning walks.
Good pub nearby (Wainwright Inn) and village shop selling everything you could need.
My main concern was the showers and toilets. I had read a few reviews of campsites and it always seems to be touch and go as to whether they would be clean with hot water readily available. Not here. Toilets and showers spotless and plenty of hot water.
Fantastic price too. Go here!

We visited here for one night as the place we were at was full on the third night. When we first turned up we were quite upset as we had just left a fantastic relaxed campsite and when we turned up, after going the wrong way and ended up going up and down very narrow roads we were a little downbeat.
We were a little hasty to say the least. This is a very good campsite with fantastic amenities. The toilet block is very good and very needed as this site can get very very busy. It comes across a little commercialised at first, but once you put your tent up just turn around. The views are some of the best I have ever witnessed at a campsite.
The owners are very friendly. Magnificent amenities and a great mobile food van on a morning is great when you cant be bothered to make breakfast.
Overall very good. Would definitely come back for a couple of nights to take advantage of the great views and walks.
One piece of advise, however, is don't go to the cafe at the end of the footpath. We paid 16 pound for two breakfasts with coffee. Very expensive considering you have to pay £1.10 for toast and you get two slices.

We have stayed at this site four times throughout the summer. We feel it represents excellent value for money in a prime Lakes location 10 mins from Ambleside.
The site has a great setting and lovely views. We initially chose the site due to Langdale being full but have not looked back and returned time and again - its about half the price.
The farmer and family are lovely and welcoming and the shower/toilet/washing facilities are great. We have always camped furthest from the facilities but it suits us to be closer to the friendly village shop which is well stocked, with fresh bread daily.
The Wainwrights Inn is a couple of minutes walk away and dog friendly but food is average and quite expensive.
One of the great things about this site is at weekends there is a van selling breakfast buns, hot/cold drinks and burgers which is great if you don't fancy cooking the morning fry-up and washing up afterwards.
We would highly recommend this site for its value for money and location.

What a lot of effort the farmer and his family have put into this site. Loads of toilets /showers etc always tidy when we visited.
The farmer and his wife were chatty and helpful. And to top it off there was a was a mobile van selling bacon / sausage butties etc in the morning. I would recommend camping on the top field near the house / wall as if you are at the bottom field it's a decent walk at night for the loo. We did notice that the bottom field kept the sun on it much longer though.
Stunning views of the langdale pikes. Co-op 10 mins away but go to ambleside for more choice. There are some pubs close by but never tried them.
Perfect base camp for walking holiday or just a chill out.And probably the best value campsite I have ever been to 'don't need any 50p's here for a shower'
If the prices stay as reasonable in future then this sites got it made.Would like to see it open all year round like the n/trust one down the road (a lot more expensive). All I think you could improve this site is maybe a small set of toilets and water supply for those in the bottom fields.
A great campsite and will be visiting again

Just back from this campsite. £4 adult, £2 child and £2 car (gazebo free). I paid £10 pounds per night - bargain camping!
Facilities here are good. Toilets - good, showers - good, washing up facilities - good (hot and cold water).
The campsite is quite large on a couple of fields. We stayed on the furthest away field but next time would go closer to the facilities. Lovely views surround the campsite.
There is a coop and a pub in the village. Didn't try the pub due to previous reviews but the coop was great (I forgot to bring tent pegs and they have camping equipment upstairs!). There is also a cafe upstairs.
We walked to Eltwater where there is also a pub. Had a lovely meal! It's only about 15 mins walk so worth it.
I enjoyed this campsite. The only downside would be it's size. I prefer smaller areas not large fields - less privacy. But for the price - bargain.

Just stayed at this campsite for 2 nights and it was great. Its quite a long drive up to the farmhouse but this does give you time to pick out a good spot. We stayed on the top field (near the toilets and showers) but there was plenty of room on all the fields.
We paid £24.00 of 2 adults, 1 child, dog and car
For 2 nights which we thought was great value.
The toilets and showers are clean and lit all night and the farmer and wife were very friendly.
There were walks in every direction to suit all levels. We had a meal in the Wainwrights Pub in Chapel Stile, which was dog friendly (always good to know, with our unpredictable weather)it was reasonably priced (£9.00-£10.50 for a bar meal)and delicious.
We will definitely use this site again, hopefully this year.
Just a note- we nearly passed the opening to the site so look out for it on the left hand side(coming from Ambleside way_)its almost on the way out of the village.

Highly recommend this site. For a very reasonable £10 per night you get a lovely farm atmosphere, spectacular views along the valley and ample walking from the site for amblers or serious walkers.
The site is large so plenty of room for everyone, we stayed during a very busy weekend and it didn't feel crowded or noisy.
Definitely going back again as soon as possible. Loved watching the farmer and his dogs herding the sheep and the free range chickens that wander around the site are great.
No complaints.
