Back from our holiday which included 2 days camping at this site. This was my first time camping so I don't have any other sites to compare to.
It was chucking it down with rain when we arrived. Luckily the campsite warden was in the office and let us shelter there before pitching our tent. The tent site wasn't terribly busy but some areas had become marshy due to the rain. This affected area was located just behind the office / prefab so be warned.
The site wasn't very busy so we had plenty of room to pitch our two man tent and to set up our camping chairs. According to the warden, the rule of thumb for pitches is that guy ropes don't cross.
Toilets are extremely clean and there always seemed to be a steady supply of toilet paper and soap. The toilets were cleaned at night time and first thing in the morning. A hardy caravanner remarked to me that they were some of the cleanest toilets she had encountered on a campsite. The showers are a bit weak but very clean and suitable for a quick wash. The toilets were never closed during cleaning times and the doors were propped open.
As mentioned in other reviews, the tent area is located very close to a toilet block (which has a keypad entry) and washing up bit. The two sinks are very big but I could see queues emerging during busy times.
The wardens (a married couple plus Meg the dog!) were lovely people and quite chatty. They recommended some walks to us and generally passed the time of day. The office is open from 9am-7pm with an hour off for lunch and at least one of them is always in the office or nearby. They tended to walk the dog at night and their presence was there till roughly 10.30pm (the time asked by the official rules for campsite users to quieten down).
The amusement arcade is two minutes walk away and has a pool table (50p a game), 10p and 2p slots and the usual puggy machines. Next door is Auntie Betty's Wee Treat Shop which makes the best ice cream in the world. Two massive scoops of ice cream, marshmallows, chocolate buttons, two wafers and a chocolate flake for £3. Bargain! The Bay chippy next door is good value too. The portion in a fish supper is extremely generous and a bargain for £6. There is a posh cafe along the road and it's a tad expensive for what you get. Still, it's the only sit in establishment nearby so they probably cash in on that.
The leisure centre with massive play park and outdoor pool is next door to the campsite. Somerfield supermarket is ten minutes walk up the road as well as the 24 hour Asda which is extremely big with a lot of choice.
Not a bad site for a couple of days stay and a novice camper like myself. It's near the sea so the sea wind can make it a bit chilly at night. However, there's some lovely walks and views nearby and the town centre of Stonehaven is very handy. Good value for £15 for two nights and a council run site.

Just got back from this site and had a great time. The site itself is only a few minutes from the beach / indoor pool / outdoor saltwater pool / kids playground / chippy / tennis courts and a lovely shop that sells home-made ice cream - 10 mins takes you into Stonhaven itself past a Somerfield. There isnt a playpark on the site as its right next to a really good one.
The site itself is quite small - the tent bit is at the very front next to the reception and boy can they ram as many tents on as possible! No 6 metre rule here! And they were still turning folk away all day! But its near one of the toilet buildings so that was good - this building was old (and cleaned twice a day) but still ended up a mess (always take your own loo roll as there never is any!) Only about 6 loos and the locks didnt work or the loo seats were loose (or missing) 6 showers in the ladies - nice and hot but not powerful, a sink inside for washing clothes and only 2 sinks outside for pot washing. The other toilet block at the other end of the site had loads more loos but only 3 showers (but nicer ones) - this is where the launderette is too (£1 per machine)
After all it was only £10 per night for our tent and 4 people so it was a bargain but the facilities do need upgrading. Also a timetable for when the loos were shut for cleaning would have helped.
It did get noisy at night - boy racers going up the hill one night and a party of girls drinking until 4am was a bit much but you cant help what other campers do - mind you the warden could have done more to help but he just seem to vanish - we had cars going in and out at all hours.
All in all it was a good site for the money but could do with more warden appearances at night time (but he was very helpful when our air beds gave up and he told us about the 24 hour Asda 7 miles up the road)

We like this site as is a lovely place and it is great for commuting to and from Aberdeen. The previous message did not relate to anything that we have experienced but this may have been because the site is was only open until October so obviously the toilets and showers would have been locked off and that would be why there was no warden.

I arrived late - there was no warden, so I toured the site and pitched camp what looked to be a good patch.
The early evening was noisy with youths shouting and cussing nearby, the toilet block was shabby and largely locked - all the loos and showers were not accessible, only one laundry sink (but it did have hot water!). In the morning the story was the same - I would think the site would be heaving in the summer - but at the end of October it was a bit like the Marie Celeste!

Just came back from our most recent trip to this park. Site fees not too bad, shame about the weather. Warden very friendly, she is a really nice woman and nothing was too much trouble for her. There were a few loud groups in the tents which I felt she dealt with very well and soon got them to settle down. She was even out in the middle of the night helping the old couple next to us get their electrics working. The site is very well run and very clean. Toilets could be done with a bit of upgrading but nevertheless they were clean and well looked after. Can't wait to go back.

August 2005 What a lovely site. The wardens were very welcoming, and were careful to point out all the facilities. We had a fairly flat pitch, with plenty of room for the awning without feeling crowded. Walked along to the harbour in the evening, and wandered back through the town.
Plenty to do in the area, apart from the famous open-air pool, and the huge beach, we had a great weekend.
Just be careful on the approach, not to turn RIGHT when you reach the sea, as that is a narrow dead-end, and you may, like us, perform a quick un-hitch and turn... There are 2 caravan sites. You want the one on the LEFT!!!!

July 2005 Second trip to this site. Excellent, could not fault it at all. Steve and Mima very friendly. Good clean facilities. Resort of Stonehaven excellent. Salt water pool - kids not too keen on it, but even the indoor pool is great. Shops closeby - well lit - will go back - excellent site. Keep up the good work.

July 2005 Arrived at very busy time as the Highland games, Folk Festival and Outdoor Bowling Fete were on. The wardens were very helpful and understanding. We had a great couple of days in Stonehaven, and found the site to be very good. Infact going back next week again for another stay. See ya!!!!
Recommended, great for the kids, with the outdoor and indoor pool, plently of waste ground to play on, kids park meets the needs of all ages, and you are five minutes from all the shops in Stonehaven and 15 minutes by car to Portlethen for Asda. All in all a very good site in a perfect location by the sea.....
Great............
