Perhaps it was because the school holidays are earlier in Scotland, but the site was busy (but not full) at the beginning of April.
On arrival, the friendly and helpful warden explained the strict speed limit and one-way system round the site. Evidently this does not apply to unsupervised children on bicycles.
He also explained that while it was a Caravan Club site, it was still in need of upgrading.
The site still only has 15 hardstandings although more are planned. The grass pitches were fairly level and looked well drained. There were no service points round the site, though there were plenty of water taps and some grey water disposal points. The toilet block was immaculate, but lacked things such as privacy cubicles for washing or thermostatic controls on the scalding hot showers.
Forfar town centre is only a few minutes walk away and has a good selection of traditional shops and small supermarkets. That's where the good news ends. The centre looks grubby and tired and in need of a good clean up. The traffic is also very heavy.
If you want to take a few days exploring the area, then this is a good base. However, we couldn't share the enthusiasm of some other campers. This could be almost anywhere and the surrounding area has few unique features to recommend it.

This site has been recently acquired by the Caravan Club and is no longer run and operated by the council.
I have visited this site 4 times already this year with another 2 visits planned. The site has a mix of hardstanding and grass pitches, some with water points on the pitch. This will however change at the end of the season I am told to all Hard standing. A new perimeter fence will be built for security and barriers installed some time in the next 6-8 weeks.
Toilet blocks are spotless, as is the washing up area. A credit to the new wardens.
The location is great, A couple of minutes walk sees you into the town centre, where you will find pubs, shops, banks, butchers, bakers etc. An Aldi & Tesco are both within close proximity.
The loch is on the sites doorstep and has a level pathway 2.5 miles all the way round. The playpark is offsite and a favourite with my son.
All in all, a great place to stay and I'm sure it will only get better with all that is planned for it. Book ahead!

The wardens were friendly and helpful, and the toilet block is absolutely spotless with lots of hot water. A real plus point anywhere.
The playpark is off site and only in view of a few caravans so check pitches when you book with small children or you will end up spending all day sitting on a hard park bench in the rain to watch them play and keep them away from the loch.
The loch right outside the fence is a great walk or cycle. We all loved a daily walk around there. It is a site to kick back and relax in, right at the heart of Forfar.
Nice stay, clean and friendly, what more can you ask for as a great base to stay.

Clean site and friendly place.
Be warned for parents who like to know where their children are, that the playpark is a council one just outside the caravan park and there are only a few pitches that you can see the park from. It is also very close to the loch so unsupervised children is not a good idea.
Apart from that. A surprisingly pleasant caravan site.

Have just spent a few days at the Lochside site. Lovely location, handy for the town and with good walking and cycling nearby. Toilets are very clean, wardens must work incredibly hard to maintain them like that considering how busy the site was. No unaccompanied children allowed in the toilet block which was good.
On the negative side the site would benefit from hard standing pitches. One morning of rain and the awning flooded, although there was no more rain for a couple of days, the mud just kept oozing through the groundsheet. Spoke to a lot of people who had the same experience. I heard the low ground around the loch has always been quite boggy.
The worst experience for us, was the sheer amount of unsupervised children tearing about on bikes in between the cars and caravans. Wardens discourage this but parents need to accept more responsibility for their children. There is a very good playground next to the site as well as excellent sporting facilities to suit everyone nearby.
If there was hard standing, we would visit again but not at peak times

Stayed on this site many a time over the years and never been disappointed. Turn left from the site you are alongside the loch with a good walk all the way round and you arrive back at the sites gate. Turn the opposite way you walk into town where you have shops and pubs and carry out places to suit all tastes. The kids will love the ducks and geese beside the children's playarea and the amount of open area of playfields for to kick a ball or pitch and putt should keep any youngster happy. The toilets are always clean and the wardens that have been on duty while I've been there have always been nice enough. The site has always been very busy any time I've been there so that kind of tells you something.

We have been to this site several times and the wardens Judith & Ronnie are very pleasant the site is a credit to them. The toilets, showers etc are spotless and heated. The reception is full of local information, books, games and magazines to borrow if it is raining. There is a lovely playpark just outside the park. Shops are minutes away. A van comes round in morning that sells rolls & papers etc. And also an ice cream van comes too. Price 14.50 per night no extra for awning or electric hook up some pitches even have water hook up. The site is always busy and you need to book in advance we have been disappointed several times as we left it too late to book. All in all a great site.

This is one of our favourite sites for our caravan. The park occupies a great location next to the loch and we walk round it several times daily. We've also enjoyed a summer drink at the cricket club whilst sitting outside in glorious sunshine watching a match, and we've done very similar at the rugby club too. I've reviewed this site previously and would re-iterate all my previous points but unfortunately have to make some minor criticisms since our last two visits this year.
On one occasion the warden called through the awning to ask my wife to be quiet at 11.15pm. She was simply saying goodnight to our young sons who were sleeping in the awning annexe. We are a decent respectable family and saying goodnight to our sons is hardly antisocial behaviour and I do not appreciate being told off like a school-child for doing it. I think that this was somewhat over the top.
Whilst I understand that keeping the noise down after 11pm. Is a reasonable request, it is a caravan park, not a library and it is most unreasonable to berate people for using a normal speaking voice.

Excellent site, will definitely be back! Greeted by the elderly wardens who seemed to be temporary and very nice, Nothing was a problem and the kids were free to play. Toilets very clean and warm, all was relaxed. Aldi, tesco and local amenities close to the park with a nice 2-1/4 mile stroll round the loch, takes a good 45 minutes. Community centre within 1 minute walk and large playpark.
The second wardens were not so pleasant in the slightest, within 5 minutes of arrival 'The Sherriff' was out barking orders! Get off the grass, 'play on the road' he said to my 3 year old daughter? I got the impression from regulars him and his wife would not be missed!

Chose this site after great reviews here. On arrival there was no staff at reception. There was a map taped on desk indicating tent area which seemed to be behind / side of reception, being new to the park and having a new tent I thought I'll check with the warden who was cutting grass at the time before pitching. He informed me pleasantly just pitch where you like behind / side of reception just leave room for cars. After a short walk around and deciding to pitch my tent beside a nearby tent, imagine my frustration after unpacking and connecting poles within his view he then came over to tell me I was in the wrong area. Aarggh. After biting my lip. Moved over 20 metres to set up. After settling down we found this to be a very good site worthy of previous comments / however if you are a light sleeper there is some church bell that chimes every hour through the night.
