 What a gem!

On arrival we were met by the very helpful owner.

We had a choice of top or bottom field. Top field £10 per night but the choice of having electricity on a meter (£1, £5, £10 cards avail) we chose not to have hook up.

Bottom field £13. 50 per night electric hook up inc.

Shower and toilet room in small annexe attached to owners house, £1 per shower, hot and well kept.

Peaceful quiet retreat. Plenty of walks in area. Pub within walking distance. Shops a short drive. Ruscote fish and chip shop 5 min drive away, very good.

Dog friendly.

For those with children, recreation field with play area outside entrance of site.

Hoping to visit again, so don't all book at once!

We stayed at this site with our 10 month old daughter in our tent. We received a warm welcome on arrival and shown all the facilities. Toilet and shower are clean. However there is only one and the shower and toilet are in the same room so can not be used separately. The toilet and shower are in an extension of the owners house. This is no problem and doesn't seem like you are using their home. The toilet area is open 24hr. The door is not locked but a bit of a job to undo once closed. Not what you want at 5am in cold weather when your desperate for the loo.

There is a good play area in the field next to the site. However there is a main road so need to keep an extra eye on kids. The village is very pretty and there are many walks around the area. We even found some lamas! The local pubs are good for food but do keep in mind they don't serve food all day. We went to the 'rose and crown'. Good value for money and staff friendly. We paid £12 for a night at this site, we think this is an appropriate price.

We stayed for a couple of nights as we only live 1/2 an hour drive away. We had a choice of where to pitch, the ground was lovely and flat and free from any stones. The owner showed us the toilet and shower which there was only one and in the same room the shower cost £1. Also there is a sink to wash up in which are both in an extension to the house. The owner was able to freeze our ice blocks. Electric hook ups were available. One minute walk and you are in a playing field with goal posts and swings, slide etc. Kept the children busy. Lovely quiet village to walk around. Not sure where the nearest shop was, Banbury is only 15 minutes drive away. We had a lovely peaceful stay and not too busy for August. Would go back again.

We came across this cl when coming to the end of a three month trek along the south coast and up into the Cotswolds.

During our extended hols,we saw a wildly varying standard of sites, both cl's and cs's and a few commercials.

This one stands out as one of the nicest we had come across although it may be a touch remote for some.

Set in the top part of the village of Ratley, some 7 miles northeast of Banbury, the site is at the rear of the farmhouse (no longer a working farm) in a beautifully maintained lawned area. It is probably best described as the back garden and is bordered on three sides by hedges and mature trees. Along the longest side are the 16amp hookups while the water and waste facilities are by the farmhouse.

The wc and h&c are in the form of a downstairs bathroom in the farmhouse and there is also a shower for which there is a charge. These facilities are kept spotlessly clean.

A morning paper can be ordered as can breakfast (for the lazy camper) - Mrs. Loggin, the jovial proprietor, also offers B&B.

The lower part of Ratley is a classic Cotswold village with old stone built houses, cottages, church and pub. The latter serves good food, good beer and is a friendly 'local' though the late night walk back up the hill to the site is a killer. Best get the other half to stay sober and do the driving.

The next village on is Edgehill (of civil war fame) and this road leads to the main A422 Banbury to Stratford-upon-Avon road. From this point, the whole area opens up to the committed tourist who wants to enjoy what the north Cotswolds have to offer. And it has lots !

At £9.50 per night all in for two people, dog, twin-axle caravan and awning, it was a cheap, enjoyable, relaxing week.We are going back in September.
