The perfect campsite for us. Simple and quiet, the view is fantastic and the owners friendly and helpful. We only stayed one night as it was a last minute get away but will definitely return.
One electric hook up, a tap and one (clean) Portaloo are the only amenities but if that's all you need don't hesitate to book!
We called the site on the spur of the moment on the Saturday of a bank holiday weekend; the owner was very friendly and we were assured of a space. We arrived late afternoon and it is certainly a little gem of a site; a hideaway as the CCC book suggested. There is only a chemical toilet in the corner of the field so be prepared to take your own loo. By the end of a bank holiday weekend the chemical loo was struggling a bit ( families with children perhaps not flushing it fully!). Having said that the owner did her utmost to keep it stocked with paper and fresheners.
It was very quiet - few other tents were there - all grass pitches in the field, and a really nice touch several firepits for you to light your own camp fire. Plenty of dry firewood to be garnered in the woods nearby.
There are numerous walks straight from the site into woods or down to the River Wye and the Wye Valley Path. A number of very good pubs in about 1/2 hour or 1hours walk - The Inn at Penallt and the New Inn at Redbrook ( English side of the river) and our favourite The Boat at Redbrook ( Welsh side of the river).
Monmouth in reach with good array of shops including a Waitrose and Aldi.
Would certainly consider going back there for a long weekend.
