We stayed for a week in the Wavecrest campsite. The location was great, just a few minutes drive from castlebay, with beautiful views over the sea in the West (great for sunsets).
The site owners were very welcoming, accommodating and friendly, showing us immaculate toilet and shower facilities.
The campsite also seems to have access to a small kitchen and potential for storing bikes (if you are planning to cycle up the islands). Just call the site an enquire and I am sure they would be able to inform you about that.
All in all we had a fantastic week and we will be certainly returning to Barra and Wavecrest.

Fantastic site with everything you need, special mention to Robert who was most accommodating and very welcoming throughout.
If looking to visit Barra I would strongly recommend this place as a first port of call.

Amazing location just 10 minutes from the ferry port, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Large grassed area close to the sea with mostly level pitches.
All the facilities you need, water, waste, chemical waste, hook up, showers and loos. The showers are brand new and coin operated at 5minutes for £1, not heated but spotlessly clean.
Ronald and Ewan were very friendly and helpful. This is a new venture for them and it’s looking good so far as it ticked all of our boxes.
We have 3 working cockers that were dying to let off steam after the long ferry passage and there was plenty ground for them to run on.
Highly recommended and at £15 with EHU, great value for money.

I found this little gem quite by accident. The owner, Roughll (Ronald) wasn't around when I arrived, but a couple already there said he'd be happy for me to pitch up & would likely find me at some point. This he did. He was very helpful & accommodating. A Barra man born & bred he's a mine of information about the island.
There's plenty of opportunity for surfers, fishing etc, & only a few short miles from castlebay where there's a gin distillery & shops/restaurants as well as phenomenal views. Wavecrest itself is right on the coast & the sunsets are amazing.
All expected facilities apart from laundry, but not as well advertised as it could be. This however can be a bonus, as it's quieter.
Highly recommended. Say hello to Roughll (pronounce Roll, apparently).

Lovely location - tranquil with spectacular views across the water.
The site is only 5 min drive from castlebay ferry terminal.
Friendly, welcoming hosts who helped assist us with our wonderful day trip to Mingulay and also helped to keep us informed about a delayed ferry. Nothing was too much trouble, they went above and beyond our expectations.
There are a number of excellent walks from the site.
The new facilities are modern and well finished including showers and toilet block. An EHU is available if required. We cannot recommend this site highly enough, and again, particular praise must be given to the fantastic hosts Roughall and Margaret who effortlessly made our holiday on this island with Gaelic charm and hospitality.
We intended to spend 3 days on Barra however due to the above mentioned factors we stayed for a very happy 8 days and shall return again soon.

Very helpful and friendly owners, we phoned ahead and were told to just go onto the field and find a spot which suited. It is currently an unmarked field so you can pitch where you like.
When we spoke to the owner he apologised as he is waiting on his toilet/shower facility block to arrive from the mainland and so the site is currently comparable to a CL site and is basically a step up from wildcamping, which is no longer allowed in Barra, with electric hook-up, fresh water, bins, fantastic views and easy access to the fabulous Barra beaches.
It was great value at a cost of £10 per night which included hookup (£5 without) We enjoyed the site so much that in four weeks of touring the Western Islands it was the only place we stayed two nights.

This campsite is as basic as they come - but none the less wonderful for that. What do you get? Water and a rubbish bin - and that's it. Well, that's not really it because you get a fabulous location - great views of the sea and coastline to the west, the hills and wide Borve valley to the east.
Lovely walks over the meadows from here. Plenty of room - no need to be within hearing distance of any other campers. Plenty of seabirds for company too. It can be breezy (so no midges!).
An old container without doors is available for shelter and cooking out of the wind and possible rain. So almost wild camping and at five pounds per night not much more expensive.
