Just spent our first ever camping trip at this site. Managed to snap a pole on first erection. Site was wonderful and facilities immaculately clean.
Fab for kids who will spend all day paddling in the river (very shallow with very small brown trout). Only a 20 min(steep) walk through woods into Porlock shops /eateries.
Had fantastic walk through Horner wood and had cream teas at the tea room on return.
Only down side to this site is the slightly sloping EHU pitches and no kiddies play area. Staff on site very helpful and polite. Will return asap

Totally Recommended! - the location is lovely and quiet, the site near the shop/reception is pretty flat with a number of hardstandings and areas set aside for caravans. There is a mildly sloping field. Fine for most tents but larger trailer tents may find it too much.
Book early and tell them you need a flat area to pitch and they will do their very best. Staff are great. Very friendly and always helpful.
The central loo/shower block is a real gem - clean, well maintained and a real joy after a long days walking!
This was our first trip out in the new campervan after many years of tents / trailer tents and the site made it all the more memorable - we'll certainly be coming back I suspect.

100% impressed by Burrowhayes and the beautiful surroundings. Surrounded by a wood - with walks to the local town, and farm land. Our kids loved watching the horses in the paddock.
The facilities were 10/10 and kept immaculate at all times. The showers were wonderful with great pressure and hot temperatures no matter what time of day you used them.
The dishwashing area was a great set up and indoors. We hardly ever encountered a queue. They also have indoor laundary facilities. They have horse and pony riding - our kids loved that and the staff were absolutely lovely with our kids which helped with their confidence on their first ride on a pony.
All staff were friendly & welcoming and always ready to help with information on the surrounding area. The camp atmosphere was perfect & very family orientated.
There was a small stream at the bottom of the camp which the kids had a lot of fun playing in. The only issue we encountered was finding dog mess twice in the grass on the tent pitch area - visitors need to clean/watch after their animals if they choose to bring them.
Otherwise, I would highly recommend this wonderful camp ground.

We visited Burrowhayes for August bank holiday week, arriving on the Friday so the site was very busy as would be expected.
The owner was very friendly but unfortunately all the pitches left were sloped and this made for slightly uncomfortable sleeping.
The tents were pitched very close together so you could hear noise at night.
After the bank holiday weekend the site got less busy and there was more room for the children to play and less noise at night.
The facilities were excellent and very clean. There was never much of a queue for the showers even at the busiest times.
The horse riding was excellent and reasonably priced.
Would highly recommend the site but would probably look for somewhere smaller and quieter next time.

We stayed here for a 10 night break with our 4 and 2 year old children as they both love horses and with it's own stables it looked really appealing.
Upon arrival the owner came and showed us to a pitch and we were really surprised by just how hilly the site was. I kindly asked for a flatter pitch and we were given one that was sloping but probably the flattest they had!
The site was really busy, primarily with families and there were children running about all over the place but that was to be expected from a family site.
The noise level at night only died down after 11pm and even then with the close proximity of the tents you could still here what people were saying.
On a positive note the horses and stables were lovely and we took our kids out on them a couple of times which they loved.
The shower block is clean and tidy but some people still need to learn how to flush a toilet!
The site shop is adequate although isn't licensed to sell alcohol and Porlock and the surrounding area is great with Minehead and Lynmouth well worth a look.
Overall the site is fine and the owners are very accommodating although we wouldn't go back to this site purely because it is too hilly and far too busy for our liking. A quieter site beckons for next year I think.

Lovely site in a most beautiful setting with lots of space around each hardstanding. The toilet and shower block is well serviced and with ample number of units in each and we were not delayed at anytime when using these facilities.
The surrounding area of Exmoor is fabulous with loads to do and see.
The staff were at all times friendly and helpful especially the girls running the horse riding yard.
Can't wait to go back.

A nice friendly family run campsite.
The site slopes away from the shop and main amenities and could be quiet a slope for some people. Whilst we were there a caravan had to change pitches as they could get level on theirs.
Saying that, the owner was really helpful to them, helped to try and get them level, when that didn't work he helped them move to another pitch.
Several other tents were pitched on the slope and didn't seem to have any problems.
The toilets and shower block were very nice, clean enough for a muddyish September weekend, and no queues at any time we used them, although we did pitch behind them and the were quiet noisy when the boiler(?) or hand drier(?) was used.
There was still plenty of grass to pitch on although there were a lot of scorch marks on the grass from hot pans I suppose.
This site also has it's own horses and ponies. It's great to see them in the next field in the early morning and evenings, and we booked our children in for a 1/2 hour pony ride. We had friends visiting for the day and they also booked their children for the same pony ride.
This was supposed to be parent led, which sounds a bit daunting, but to be honest the ponies were brilliant, you do go on the road for about 2/3 's of the route but the ponies were so chilled out and knew the way that they didn't bat an eyelid, and were very calm even when cars went past. Also because we had a 3 year old on the ride with us, one of the stable girls came out with us anyway so the 3 year olds mum didn't have to lead the pony and could concentrate on making sure she didn't fall off.
If the site had a playground for kids we didn't find it, but we weren't really there long enough to need one.
It's very handy for the north of exmoor and we spent a day at at Dunkery Beacon, Watersmeet, Lynton and Lymouth.
We will definitely be going back there next year, and will probably do day trips for the pony rides too.

Visited Burrowhayes just last week. Only negatives would be the pitches are quite close together and some are on steep slopes. That said, the owners are second to none friendly relaxed but organised and welcoming not overly regimented.
The toilets are excellently maintained and showers are great too. Children loved playing by the stream and crabbing at porlock weir.We met some friends and are meeting them next year there again! The prices are sensible given the free showers that aren't on a timer, hairdyers etc. Great base for touring the area and family friendly site.

A Brilliant campsite, lovely area with lots to do. They are listed as having a play area on the uk campsite website but they do not, infact there seemed very little room for ball games etc. But most of the children spent their time in the stream. Our son wanted to spend all day paddling and making dams.
The facilities are very good always clean and not too long to wait for showers etc. The area is great for walking and the stables are very good. Porlock and the surrounding area are beautiful we would definitely go there again.

Recommended by a work colleague - excellent recommendation! Very accommodating site - no extra charge for the dog - or for staying till tea time on the day of our departure! Some sites charge for everything they can think of, but not this one. Lovely site - they even put the England match on in the shop for those without a tv -with chairs down the aisle! Lovely walks, stables, facilities very clean with nice hot showers. Slight slope but not too bad if your heads at the top! Definately going back again, but next time for longer!
One downside - children's facilities - the boys were disappointed there was no where to play football - well not officially anyway! Perhaps an outdoor table tennis table would be a nice, simple getting back to basics pastime. We've used these at other sites and they are very popular. They loved the horse riding, although not sure we could afford that every holiday as a bit pricey.
