This was our first visit to this site and I have to say that we had a really great time here. The toilet / shower block is like no other, out of this world and the pitches for the most part are shielded on at least 2 sides by large hedges giving you both shelter and privacy.
We stayed for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) and on the first night there was racing at salisbury race course that just happens to be right next door. You may think that this would cause too much noise and potentially ruin the night but you couldnt be further from the truth. Though the traffic would be a nightmare if you arrive at the wrong time.
From the edge of the campsite you could see both the finishing line and the big screen so the racing could be enjoyed from the site without the need to pay entry into the race course. At the end of the racing there was a Queen tribute band playing and as they had opened the gates for people to leave, we were free to walk in and watch the band. A bonus.
A short (4 mile) walk takes you to Salisbury wher you can visit the Cathedral, old Sarum, shops and enjoy a pub lunch.
A short drive from here and you have Stonehenge, Woodhenge and Avebury (the largest stone circles in Europe, perhaps the world)
Never used the shop so I couldnt tell you what it was like but I can tell you that we wouldnt hesitate to go again.

Just an update on previous reviews. This is an excellant site. The loo / shower block must be one of the best in the country 5 stars! The shop now stocks nearly everything you could want, but at the moment the freezers have broken down so there is no cold food or milk, but its not too far to the supermarket. The play area only has a slide but the whole point is for families to play on the open area together ie football cricket rounders etc.

What a fantastic site!
The site is located adjacent to Salisbury racecourse approx 4 miles from the city. Although being so close to a city the area is quite rural and very peaceful. Salisbury itself is a great place with something for everybody.
We picked the worst week to go camping in August and on arrival we were aware of a storm heading for the UK. With this in mind the owner, being very concerned for our safety and comfort, saved us a space behind a vary tall hedge.
The site is very clean and tidy. A lot of hard work has gone into the overall presentation. The toilet/shower/laundry block unlike some sites had been refurbished to maintain standards.
Many of the pitches (all flat) are enclosed by hedges to give privacy and protect from the weather as the site is open to the elements from the South West.
The area is an excellent base with many attractions being within an hours drive including Longleat, Bournemouth etc
My only criticisms are that the shop is a bit bare and they dont sell milk, and the playing area for children is rather sparse.
Other than that I have got to say that this is by far the best site we have ever stayed at. We will definitely travel the 300 miles to go back. At £14 per night for 2 adults and 2 children its a bargain.

This is a truly fabulous campsite! Very peaceful and set in beautiful countryside right next to the racecourse, which was not open when we were there so I can't say how this might have affected our enjoyment although I doubt that it would have. The toilets, showers and washrooms are clean and well maintained although the children's play area was rather basic. The shop did not have very much on offer and we were told that the fridge had "just packed up" so that added to the feeling of sparseness although the lady admitted that they don't do much anyway as most people prefer to go to the local supermarket. I must emphasise though that despite these very minor points this is one campsite that will not let you down for sheer pleasure and tranquillity and is a perfect base from which to explore the Wylye valley and the surrounding areas.

Just got back from a great night at Coombe Touring Park, it was brilliant! I took my 4 year old and my mum ( both first time campers )! The pitch was large and enclosed with tall hedges, the shower block was very clean and so was the room for washing up. It was a very busy weekend for campsites (lovely weather!) so we phoned about 4/5 other campsites on that morning to book up for just one night but they were all full, but this one had spaces and if I'd known how beautifull it was( not having been here before) I would NEVER have phoned around. We will come straight back here next time! Great views from some pitches on the other side of the site of the rolling Wiltshire countryside but more open pitches. Couldn't be closer to Salibury race course if you tried! The only very small downside is that it needs a new childrens play area, the old one has only a slide left, but there a large grassed area there, which is great for ball games, that they could put in a great playground. Can't wait to come back! Thank You!

Lovely site with nicely hedged plots with electric hookup. Couldn't be closer to the race course so Ideal for people with an interest in such. We used as a weekend location whilst visiting longleat and the lovely city of Salisbury. Very reasonable price it was at £15 per night for caravan and 3 adults. As per other posters the shop was quite poor (bring your own bacon!) but other than that it's fab. Very nice toilet block etc. Nice walks close by.
Would visit again for sure.

Just got back form spending 6 nights at Coombe Nurseries. Its my third visit and loved it. Went with loads of family (had 7 pitches in total!) Margaret was very helpful and as pleasant as always. The site is quite and in a great location for exploring the surrounding area. Its just idea for my family of 20 people (youngest 3 years - oldest 72!) Will be back again next year for the next family camp.

FANTASTIC! This was our first time camping and we loved it. The facilities were very clean, showers were lovely and warm. The pitches are very private and spacious. The site is so close to the race course you could touch it! The owners were very friendly and helpful. We WILL be back.

December 2005 So pleased to see Mike Travers Review. We always look for a quiet site and he confirmed that this was one. Our stay confirmed this. We had a lovely time and Brian and Margaret, the owners made us very welcome and were most helpful. The toilet block was very clean and tidy and the showers hot.
We shall certainly go their again for a quiet time.

August 2005 Although right next to the race track this is a very good campsite. About 4 1/2 miles from Salisbury. Although signposts from Salisbury are bad.
One thing you have to be careful of if buying anything in the shop is the cost. If you want a gas refill it would be better to go into Salisbury, which has a very good shopping area. As you can be over charge on this on this campsite I know I was.
Otherwise a good campsite in which I would go again.
