Nice campsite, we've been a few times. Facilities are very basic and do need a clean but a new shower block has been put in this year.
The campsite has a chilled out atmosphere and good fishing lake which makes up for the lack of facilities.
Good to be able to have a campfire. Logs are delivered by the friendly owner.
It does get busy at bank holiday weekends but there still seems plenty of space within your own camp. It can get a bit rowdy at the busy times but saying that, we will go back because of nice atmosphere.

Just back from a great Mon to Fri stay at St Ives campsite. Loved it. Great for kids who like fishing and running free. Great for parents who'd like a nice rest while children are occupied.
Loved the informality of this site (fires allowed, but only on established fire pits; not having lots of rules; views). Lots of hot water in showers and as the site was quite quiet there were no queues for showers or loos either. Didn't venture anywhere near the portaloos as I hate them even when they're clean!
The site was quite full on Thurs night but all noise died down by 11pm (even the large group of teenagers).
The tea shop next door was delightful and the farm shop a couple of miles down the road was good too (fresh cherries this time of year and lots of different ciders).
Will definitely return to this site in the future.
Owner was very friendly and regularly toured the site on his quad bike to check all was OK, to sell firewood and take camping fees.
Visited pooh bridge during our stay (about half hour over hill walk from Hartfield village centre)

We visited in the week during school holidays.Beautiful location in Ashdown Forest with basic facilities perfect for a 2 night mid week break. The owner is very friendly and chilled out. We had a fab spot in the far corner and were soon joined by other families which was great for all the kids. Kids all loved the site seeing the ducks and fish and generally being able to run about being children. That said the site was quiet from 10pm and kids didn't get up and play until 8am. I think it would be a different story on a weekend though as the owner said it was always busy then. Good well stocked village shop 5 mins away which does cash back and has a well stocked off licence. Otherwise Co op or Tesco Express 15min drive away.

There were some nice things about this site, but some problematic ones for me.
Firstly, if you like to make open fires it is obviously very nice. The owner was quite chilled, etc
However, for me, it was too crowded. In our field at the far end the view from out tent was about 10 cars and it did feel like a car park at times. I couldn't really see the pond or much of the surrounding views because of being packed in. But perhaps if you go at non-peak times this is not a problem. We did go on a busy, hot weekend in June.
Also, there are no noise curfews. So, on the Friday night we had to listen to basically a large party till 2 am. Including stereo music, lots of shrieking and so forth.
So, I think you really have to be prepared for that possibility and have a live-and-let-live attitude. Elsewhere on the campsite were not so noisy but you could be unlucky. No-one else seemed to mind though so perhaps people are used to this.

This is a basic farm campsite set around a lake in a lovely location with excellent walks from the door. The owner allows campfires, sells logs (but not kindling) at a reasonable price and is very pleasant and extremely helpful.
There is a well stocked village store a five minute drive away and a larger Co-op supermarket in Forest Row, 15 minutes away. There is a tea room next door, a good pub (The Anchor) in Hartfield, a 30 minute easy stroll across the fields, and an excellent gastro-pub, The Hatch, in Coleman's Hatch, a ten minute drive away.
The facilities comprise two showers, two W.C's for each sex and an outdoor wash-up area (currently with no hot water) located in two blocks in the caravan field. These are reasonably clean and well stocked with toilet paper. There are also four additional portable loos on the camping field. These get very full, dirty and the water runs out after a busy weekend. The owner has improved the facilities since our last visit and intends to improve the wash-up facilities very soon.
We stayed during the week when it was very quiet and the facilities were certainly not overstretched. We enjoyed this tremendously and stayed an extra day. This was our second visit, the previous one being at a weekend.
The owner does not live on the site. He also permits large groups to camp. Of a weekend this can lead to noise, lots of it. During the previous visit the adults stayed up making a lot of noise until the early hours and the kids were playing football at 5 am.
Given the current state of the facilities this site is a little on the expensive side although the showers are free and the hot water, unlimited. The logs are the same price as in the village store. I'm told that there is an additional charge for fishing.
We'll certainly stay again, but only during the week when it is quiet.

On arrival, we had to find a space to pitch our tent. There is no one to greet you.
The surrounding area is beautiful, the area is great for cycling and walking.
There is a tea room next to the camp site which is very good and good value for money.
There is a village shop about 5 minutes drive and a Tesco Express about a 15 minute drive away.
It is great to have an open fire, there is a man that comes rund to sell logs each evening, but you will have to take your matches and kindling.
Unfortunately, the camp site was expensive at £7.00 per adult and £4.00 per child, especially when the facilities are basic, the caravan field had 2 toilets and a shower and in the tent field there were 4 porta loos, which became full and ran out of water. The facilities were stretched with the amount of people staying there.
The washing up area is outside with one sink and no hot water, we had to get hot water from the taps in the toilets.
There does not seem to be any rules about noise at night, which would be a good thing to introduce.
David the owner is very friendly, and helpful when I spoke to him on the phone.
We also thought that the fishing would be included in the price but there is an extra charge for this £8.00 for adults and £4.00 for children per day, it then makes it an expensive trip.

Visited for a few nights with my son and dog during the half term week.
The site has a lovely peaceful location, at the end of a long lane, no road noise, nice views of Ashdown Forest and the Weald. Relaxed atmosphere, and the fishing lake was a bonus, as the lad discovered the joys of sitting quietly for a long stretch of time.
Lots of nice walks and things to do in the area - we saw loads of birds, deer, and nearly trod on an Adder on a walk in Ashdown Forest.
Facilities are basic and limited - ok if you're there for a few days only, only 2 showers, and the loos weren't in too good a state due to the amount of use. Somewhere to freeze ice packs would be handy.
Although it was friendly and relaxed, it could do with a bit more organisation: it took ages to find anyone when we arrived, and then were told just to find somewhere that didn't have a 'reserved' sign on it. The people next to us were told they'd have to move the next day, as that area was reserved, even though it didn't have a sign.
I don't really like too much regimentation, but numbered pitches would be better. When I phoned, I was told to make sure I kept my dog on the lead, which I do anyway, but other dogs were running loose, and nothing seemed to be said. There were no rules about noise ( some kids were fishing at 5 am, and not quietly ! ).
Nice to be able to have a fire, but again, this wasn't consistent - I was told not to have one near our pitch, as the grass would be damaged. Either allow them or not - again numbered pitches with a fire pit would make this easier to manage.
Although at first it sounded cheap, once you add in the cost of logs and fishing, it was over £20 per night for the 2 of us. Most people fishing were kids like mine, just messing about, so this seemed like an unnecessary extra charge.
So, a lovely quiet rural site, which would benefit from a bit more organisation, nicer facilities and expectation on noise, dogs etc.
I'd go again, for the location and fun for the kids.

The positives:
Nice location next to lake, lovely easy access to bluebell woods for walks and Ashdown forest, good for bike rides, brilliant to have campfires, nice campsite owner who sold wood daily if you needed it. Good on site coffee shop.
However. When we were there we stayed in the top field which was quiet when we arrived but by Saturday morning was completely overrun with children who kicked balls at our heads when we were sleeping, played in our fire, nearly fell in the lake and in the end we moved because we were scared for their and our safety. This was probably just bad luck and on a good weekend could be much quieter.
The portaloo's in the top field were also not kept clean, they were often completely open so you could see what other people had done before you and the loo roll wasn't well stocked. If these had been maintained it would have been much nicer. Nonetheless the toilets in the caravan field were much better looked after and the facilities nicer, if not still basic.
Conclusion: We would probably visit out of season or during the week.

Just back from a 4 night stay at St Ives, 3 adults and 2 dogs. Upon arrival we were very impressed with the lovely location and peaceful campsite. First 2 nights were lovely and other campers friendly. We weren't so impressed on the Friday and Saturday night when the site became busy. The facilities also became stretched, could do with an extra shower or so and the portaloos quickly became 'full'.
Campfires a big plus for this campsite, along with the beautiful location, but lack of rules may be an issue at weekends.
Would recommend for a midweek visit, but weekends only if happy with late nights, early mornings and a decent head torch to check where you're treading!

To sum up all the below reviews this campsite is a lovely area of unspoilt countryside. Although at times it can get quite busy, off peak it is even more spectacular. The Tea rooms on site are lovely and brilliant to take small children to because of the peacocks etc walking around. Nice little shop in the village which sells basics etc. Owner David is very friendly and helpful and makes you feel very welcome. Facilities could be improved but given the price charges they are more than adequate. Look forward to returning in a few weeks.
