This is the perfect campsite to experience the simple life. No frills; shower, compost loo and a tap. My pitch was in a woodland clearing and I was astounded by the amount of space I was given.
It was secluded and peaceful and It was wonderful to sit around my campfire as the sun went down and watch the bats swooping around.
Great way to reconnect with nature and plenty to explore in the area. Lovely campsite owners too, brilliant place to visit,
Definitely want to return.

Very easy to get to.
A nice mix of areas to setup your tent.
Very picturesque area and very well maintained campsite.
No question I'll be going back, also seems a great place for winter camping.

First of all, note that there are more than 5 pitches. Some of them are really big, so good for groups. I like the non-commercial feel of this site. There is a gas-powered shower as well as the solar-powered ones. Nice hot water but not great pressure.
Depending where you are pitched, the toilet, sink and shower could all be quite far apart from each other. On the lovely open pitches with big views there is the occasional sound of traffic from a local road, which was somewhat unexpected.
The bike hire is really convenient and you can ask for some suggested walks. Best to bring your own OS maps. There are some picnic tables, but not on every pitch, so worth asking in advance if you want one. Denstone Hall farm shop, just down the road, is very good and also has a cafe.
There is a pub in Ellastone, which is not mentioned in the quaint little campsites book.

Booked in for three nights ended up staying all week. Love the location and the peace and quiet. We had a pitch in the meadow with stunning views. The owners where really friendly and welcoming and helpful. We hired bikes and was informed of a nice bike route to the ramblers rest.
The compost toilets were clean and tidy. Solar shower was good although we opted to use the forest shower, an experience not to be missed. Ben provided us with hot water for the forest shower.
This camp site normally allows camp fire but on our visit due to the dry weather and fire risk we did not have one. We absolutely love this site. It’s how camping should be and will be returning again.

Had an amazing 4 nights at this beautiful magical secluded campsite.
We stayed in the meadow with another couple and the plot was full of wild flowers and lovely young trees.
There was so much room and a gorgeous campfire. I'm not sure if you can have a campfire on all plots on the meadow but I'd advise you asking as it makes the evening sunset and star spotting just perfect.
Compost toilets are fine. Always clean plenty of sawdust and toilet roll.
Owners are on site and always happy to help. They even went out to get us a Bbq. We hired bikes and was told of a perfect route.
The shower was solar powered but was warm enough if the sun was out. We bottled water on our cooker to wash up with which we aren't bothered about. It was something I had never experienced and would be happy to do it again.
We will be back and we have already recommended it to friends
We were surprised to be charged 5pound for a 2 year old. But she made the most of the space we had and enjoyed seeing the cows.
Thank you very much

Spent ages looking for a quiet site which allowed campfires and kids to explore. Found this basic site which was perfect! Owners very pleasant and helpful throughout and are still developing this eco site.
Laid back arrangements - camping how it should be!
Facilities of warm ish water for washing / showering (solar heated) and compost toilets. All surprisingly good condition and pleasant to use!
10 minutes to 'civilisation' in Uttoxeter and easy access to stunning south Peak District.
Would recommend this site to anyone :-)

We have been to this wonderful haven several times. I have almost not reviewed because I don't want other people to know how fantastic the site and the owner are!
A very unique back to nature site with beautiful scenery and a fairytale feel to the place.
You have a water tap and 2 eco toilets. The eco toilets are far nicer than most 'normal' campsite toilets might I add!
There is a large fire circle for everyone's use, this has been utilized by ourselves many a weekend, whether it is when we have the campsite to ourselves, or joining in amongst other campers. They have sacks of logs available to buy for the fire.
The site officially has space for 5 tents so is never going to be too crowded, and you can book the site exclusively which is what we tend to do.
We have stayed in April when there was still a lot of snow around, the scenery was breathtaking. We have also stayed in October for a birthday weekend, and whilst very chilly, once we had the fire going and all the fairy lights scattered around we all felt very cosy!
There are many fine walks and trails around the area, and the local pub is only around a half hour stroll away.
The owner of the site could not be more helpful and friendly.

An absolutely fantastic little campsite. A small copse on the top of a hill and adjacent to a beautiful meadow. Facilities are limited but provide a degree of luxury if you are looking for a truly wild camping experience.
Toilets are of the eco-friendly composting variety, clean and very well services by the enthusiastic owner. There is a reliable supply of drinking water and a big bowl provided for washing dishes.
Campfires are encouraged and the camp itself is full of useful stones with which you can build your own fire-pit and BBQ. The owner also offers a plentiful supply of wood and whatever else you might need to get your fire started.
The campsite itself is a very well sheltered little copse with wonderful views across the surrounding hills and valleys. The sound of cattle and birds fills the air. In fact the little wooded area has a quite magical feel about it. Simply stunning !
A little hard to find, I am tempted to say that a sign would be nice. But on second thoughts, maybe it would be best if left undiscovered by the masses

Me and my 3yr old daughter have just come back from 4 days at this wonderful site, set in a tiny copse just of a very quiet lane.
We couldn't camp next to the car but it was only a very short distance to the actual site, the owner was happy to help me unpack and supplied a wheelbarrow to carry the stuff.
Yes this site is basic but it what it lacks in facilities it more than makes up for in location and the owners could not be more friendly.
If you are looking for entertainment, club houses, night-life and play areas this site is definitely not for you but if you want a complete escape from it all, to put your feet up and relax you really couldn't get better
We had such a brilliant 4 days and would have stayed longer but 4 days is the most we could manage without a shower.
We'll definitely be recommending it to friends and we will be back.
You really don't find sites like this very often. The only thing that could make it any better would be a solar shower, other than that it is perfect.

We had a fantastic weekend here and would definitely recommend to others. We hired the site exclusively and met up with family here. It was perfect for a family get together. The camping copse was perfect for games of hide and seek, 40 40 in and making dens.
We had two evenings of great campfires in the stone circle, roasted marshmallows, melted camembert and cooking sausages on sticks. The Eco toilet was very posh!offering wonderful views and even decorated with beautiful flowers from the wild meadow.
The site hosts were extremely welcoming. A perfect venue for a real get away from it all weekend with wonderful walks and cycling countryside on hand. Alton Towers on the door step but we managed to hide this fact from the kids!
