Without doubt THE best campsite near Newquay.
So friendly so quite so welcoming.
Perfect for a relaxing holiday in such a beautiful setting.
Facilities are so well maintained and spotless.
Thank you to Tom Aimee & Andy

We both liked this site, it is very well run and looked after, very clean and the loos and showers are good. As somebody else said. It's really annoying to have to keep pressing the button every 5 seconds to keep the shower going, drives you nuts.
The shower cubicle floor is always wet due to the overspray, it would have been far more logical to put the strip drain next to the shower tray rather than outside the cubicle that inevitably floods. It makes drying your feet impossible.
The fishing lakes are excellent, didn't fish the Specimen Lake, but the pleasure lake is a real runs water. A method feeder in the margins works really well, caught carp to 15lb and lots of low doubles. Caught Roach on floatfished maggots too. Appreciated the 25% staying on site discount.
The general aspect of the site is very flat and open, nothing screens you from other campers, this lack of general privacy takes some getting used to.
There was an incident on our last night with a couple of nasty looking big dogs (American Bully XL type) which were with a young party of two tents. The dogs were not under control and attacked a passing camper's dogs. The two young males had to physically wrestle the two big dogs to the ground to control them. Calling the out of hours Warden's number was a waste of time, there was no response, the phone just cut off repeatedly. These guys turned up in a sign written van too, which are not allowed on site.
After a call on the way home from the Manager, it looks as if this party lied there way in, having arrived out of hours and there was apparently a technical glitch with the Out of Hours Emergency phone. Hmm. Not blaming the site owners.

Just back from a 2 week stay at Gwinear. Hesitant to write a review as don’t want everyone finding out about this hidden gem! Great campsite. Very generous flat pitches, each with EHU and water supply. Lovely newly built shower/toilet block which were spotlessly clean all the time. My only tiny gripe is the showers were push button operated (which I find annoying) and have no ability to alter the water temperature. Having said that they were set at an ok temperature and had big cubicles with ample room to get changed in. There was also a washing up area at the side of the toilet block that was covered and a chemical disposal point near the bin area. There are 3 fishing lakes and a tackle shop but we did not use these at all, as we just used the site to explore Newquay and the surrounding areas. It’s a great site with nothing else there, which is just what we like. If you want playparks, pools, bars and entertainment then look elsewhere. If you want a peaceful family site then you can’t beat this place, especially at the very reasonable prices charged. I believe the owners have plans to expand but only to add more plots, not to change the overall feel of the place. We will definitely be returning (which is a first for us).

We recently camped here in our caravan, and loved every minute of this lovely site. No rowdy groups, just pleasant surrounds and a good sleep to be had. Perfect. It's a short drive down their track to the main A3075, so central to Newquay and the rest of Cornwall, without being in an overcrowded area. Also, great for not having to tow a caravan down a mile long lane - waiting to meet another coming in the opposite direction!
Gwinear Farm was recently taken over last year by a family, and has been re-vamped. More is apparently being done, but as it is, it appears a complete package. A laundry is yet to be built, but for about a couple of pounds (on top of the actual cost of the machine & powder), your laundry can be collected, cleaned and returned from the site.
The generally flat field has well spaced electric hook-up pitches, set next to a large fishing pool as it's backdrop. Fishing tackle and day tickets are available from the newly built tackle shop, just along the track by the other fishing pool. There are some BIG carp to be had if you're into coarse fishing! Nice for a short walk if you're not :-)
We were greeted by the lovely couple Andy and Aimee, who happily showed us around the site and farm area. The family keep goats and a number of rescued chickens (no roosters to be heard!) that are currently growing their feathers back now they're free from their battery-hen confines. Their eggs are for sale at around 50p per half dozen (10p off next time if you return the box). They're delicious (the eggs. Not the chickens!).
The toilet / shower facilities are newly built, right on the edge of the field. They might not be overly spacious, but the cubicles are spotlessly clean and have free hot water. No 'extras' to pay! Oh. The shower by the farm has a 20p slot. But the box has been opened (on purpose) so just take it out and pop it back into the slot to re-run the shower. Take it away when you're done. Free!
Nearby there are plenty of pubs well worth visiting. Half a mile away is The Smugglers Den Inn, towards Cubert. Large and spacious with old oak furnishing. Family and dog friendly.
In St Newlyn East village (almost straight across the road and down a lane for ~ one mile) is The Pheasant Inn. This is a 'local village pub'. Friendly and small with good food and a small car park at the back. Loved it here.
Just South along the A3075 is the Braefel Inn, but we've not called there in a while.
Others in the area are Treguth Inn & St Pirans Inn, Holywell. The Albion and The Cornishman, Crantock, and plenty more to save you from cooking.
There's not much more to be said, other than the place has a friendly, family atmosphere and staff, at an excellent price. We're definitely returning here and just hope it doesn't become too over-booked the next time we call!
