Perfectly placed campsite, feels like you're really getting back to nature! Stayed here with a friend and her 2 kids of 4 and 14. We all loved it. Lots of space to run around in, nice kids play area, both kids loved the trampolines and feeding the goats.
Lovely dark sky at night and chance to see the stars, apart from when the moon is shining really bright! lots of grasshoppers and crickets and butterflies in the long grass area, love it!
Really loved the strings of twinkle lights by the garden area near the facilities, which makes it seem like a little area of fairyland at night!
In my opinion it's the best balance between a rustic, real old school camping vibe, and with basic but perfectly adequate, neat and clean facilities, including hot water in the washing up area.
The views are stunning. We found a lovley little footpath nearby (with tons more butterflies!) to explore, and I know there's a lot more to explore next time we come here.
It's such a nice little village, it feels a bit like stepping back in time. It was great to be able to leave the car and just explore from the campsite.
Just be prepared for it being a bit breezy as it is near the top of a hill (personally I like a bit of freah air, as long as I'm dressed for it!) The owner was very nice, helpful and friendly and I like the sense of humour apparent in the various funny signs about the place, an extra reason to giggle is always good!
We will definitely be coming back here for longer soon.

Just back fro a magnificent 3 nights at Hennock Hideaway
The veiws from the sight are realy ace, we arrived before the shools broke up there 3 other people camping, we left today it was full.
The site has everthing you need including firepits and a weekend takeaway.
Some really nice touches like the on site honesty shop, a nice play area for small kids and a large trampoline for bigger ones.
Super friendly owners and a top village pub a few minutes walk away.

Visited in the off season, September to October.
The site has absolutely beautiful views over the valley, and it is peaceful and quiet. The skies are fairly dark, with clear views of the stars.
The site has an (unheated) shower block with 2 rooms, each with flushing toilet and excellent hot showers (better than home!). Only one had hot tap water at time of visit.
It was a little hard to keep the floor clean (very wet weather), and would benefit from some more hooks and floormats.
2 little shed flushing toilets, which I found very endearing and cosy.
The "tea shed" contains local information, a map, a slops bucket and 2 sinks. Usually there is hot water for washing up, but there have been difficulties with gas supply.
Recycling rubbish facilities - you must separate your rubbish - compost, paper, metal, dog poo etc.
Small children's play area.
A lovely touch is a "pub garden" style area with picnic benches, a few children's toys and a barbecue area.
Honesty box shop with free to use freezer and fridge (don't forget to label those freezer blocks!). Local eggs, honey, kindling, wood and charcoal, as well as other small items. Can pay by card at the end if no cash.
Pizza and breakfast served peak season - pizzas lovely for the first night after putting the tent up!.
There are 2 glamping tents, and pitches for campervans and tents. They charge per person (currently highly reasonable £8) plus £2 per dog per stay. You can put up multiple tents if you wish.
I think in the peak season pitching might be tricky as the site is quite sloping in places, and the pitches are unallocated.
2 water points in the camping field.
Plenty of wildlife and animals - guinea fowl, pygmy goats, occasional pheasants, and lots of hedgehogs, plus owls hooting in the night.
No biting insects, but plenty of nature's most gormless insect, the crane fly!
Not great for those with limited mobility.
Brilliant for dogs - no need to keep on the lead as long as you pick up poo and are sensible.
Firepits off the grass allowed - free firebaskets provided.
Excellent pub, the Palk Arms a short walk away (take a lantern). Pub quiz wed night, pool table, wood burning stove, fantastic cider, friendly and food served most nights.
Near to Dartmoor, Exeter and other Devon things. Need a car - a bit far to walk to facilities, and you'd need to be a pretty nimble cyclist up the hills and winding country roads.
Pros: Great prices, peaceful, friendly, good facilities, hot showers, amazing views
Cons: Unheated shower room, brr, exposed area (that's what you get for great views!) so very windy
Overall, definitely don't go there, because I want it to myself! :)

We loved this site when we first visited back in 2016, but it is even better now - free hot water for washing up, 2 separate children's play areas (we had our 4 year old grandaughter with us for 2 nights), an honesty shop and great showers, as well as a huge fridge and freezer for anyone to use (at your own risk of course)
You can choose where you want to pitch, although much of the field does have a bit of a slope, but generally it should be easy enough to find somewhere flat enough.
Loved the ethos of the place and the concern for the environment.

Absolutely brilliant site. Basic pick you own area to pitch in.
Fires allowed, small honesty shop showers and toilets.
If you don't need any more than that then it's a hard place to beat.
We love it and keep returning.

Lovely homely site, the addition of campfires is delightful.
Everything one needs but take your own firewood if you want a campfire of your own.
Fabulous views. Very easy-going and pleasant stay, will go back!

What a gem!
Fantastic wide views over Haldon Hill to the East.
Campsite very quiet and plenty of room around the edge although the field slopes away towards the toilet area.
Open fires allowed but no sign of any wood to buy.
Facilities extremely clean and functional.
Lovely walks in the area from the campsite.
Watch the local fox who will scavenge your waste while you are feet away - very brave but lovely to see.
I would recommend and will be back!
Do follow the instructions re getting there - the lanes are very narrow in places and one road is definitely better than the rest.
Its a lovely place to relax.

This is a really delightful site. The location is very special both for its amazing views but also for how peaceful it is. There isn't too much light pollution so a good view of the stars on a clear night.
However I think what really makes the difference is that the owners put a lot of effort into making it a positive experience for visitors. Kate is really friendly and helpful.
The site is a large field. It doesn't have marked pitches but when we visited there was plenty of space. There are some quite flat spots - mainly along the top hedge - but others are on a bit of a slope. Although its says tents only, it is possible to get a camper van on site but the approach roads are VERY narrow and not many passing places so anything wider that a VW T5 just wouldn't make it.
The facilities are basic, but there are nice touches like the honesty shop with some basic supplies, including same day fresh laid eggs. There are a number of fire baskets for campers to use (free) and bags of logs for £4. 00. We didn't have children but there were quite a lot of families and the play area seemed very popular. It's good value for money at £7 per adult and £5 per child per night and no rip-off extras.
The village pub is a short walk with good ale and food. We were only there for the weekend so didn't do a lot of exploring but there's lots to see in the area.
We'll definitely be back.

We stayed here as part of a large group and had a lovely time. Most of the group arrived a day before us so we didn't explore the tea shed. Apparently the washing up has no hot water so we werehed up in our group.
When arriving do follow their directions: the exceptionally narrow lanes that sat nav prefer really are NARROW.
I found the showers worked well, following the instructions posted.
Our teenagers found the phone charging worked well.
We had a problem with loo roll running out but Kate responded quickly.
Lovely to be so relaxed with dogs and fires.
I particularly liked the way the site was mown, with paths mown to the tea shed and the showers but meadow left on the slopey bits.
Worthy of a revisit.

For the first time ever I had reservations about leaving a review at all as I want to keep this place a secret, but seeing as we only go to Devon a couple of times a year that really wouldn't be fair! In another unprecedented move I am awarding this site 10/10. We absolutely loved it.
Firstly, dogs are allowed off the lead! This shows a level of common sense that is unfortunately quite rare among campsite owners. Yes, we are responsible for cleaning up our dog, no we won't leave her unattended, the end! So refreshing :)
The views are spectacular and there is a tea shed with free tea, coffee etc. And information about the local area. There is also a washing up sink in there, although you do have to heat up your own water. If you turn right and go to the bottom of the hill the owners' house is down there, as are the toilets and showers (immaculate and beautifully decorated - cleaned twice a day). There is also an honesty shop with basic stock, and the pub is a stone's throw away. The menu looked great.
We picked blackberries from the hedge for our dessert, and got freshly laid eggs from the camp shop to eat for breakfast.
It was £5 each, total £10 for two adults and one dog.
Nearby attractions include the reservoirs and Canonteign Falls (although we ended up swerving this as it was £7. 50 entry fee!)
I cannot fault this site at all - apart from maybe to suggest that they run some hot water up to the washing-up point. I will be taking up their advice to join the 'freedom camping club'. In a world full of strange folk who see nothing wrong with charging upwards of 20 quid for a patch of their bland boring lawn, this place is a real treat.
