When we first discovered this site last year, we couldn't believe our luck! We came away singing it's praises and recommending it to anyone that would listen.
But what a difference a year makes!
We have just left the site following a very stressful 2 nights.
My autistic son was desperate to return and savour the idyllic child-friendly site that he so loved last year. He has spent the last 2 days crying, shaking and in meltdown, having been abused by wretched ill-mannered brats (right in front of me). He is now terrified to even leave my side on site.
Children from nearby tents have been throwing the children's furniture, screaming in peoples' ears, threatening to hit and kick others, swearing, and telling my children that if they don't get off of 'their' play bus they'll throw them off! Unsupervised toddlers in nappies are playing freely- with full nappies and no clothes, in the ball pool.
It is a health and safety/ safeguarding nightmare, and it appears that the recommendation of supervising your children at all times in the bus, or due to dangers posed by the stream and risk of falling down the banks etc is not enforced.
'Campers' appear to have no common sense, manners, or duty of care for their own children.
The entire site is over-run with feral unsupervised children whilst adults sit in groups at their tents drinking all day long. When it becomes too dark to let their children run loose they bring them back to their tents to shine flashlights at other people and their tents, dance in the disco lights in the front of their tents and let them continuously slam camper van doors! They then continue to drink and shout until gone 11. 30.
Then you have the other families who are apparently oblivious to time, at the other end of the day, and are allowing their children to scream, fight and play in the middle of the field from 6am!
Or the dogs running free and chasing children, no owner in sight, that sit begging for food or nosing around in your bags.
Despite going out for the entire day to avoid the site yesterday we are all completely exhausted, my son is jumping at every noise or person passing by and we are heading home to recover. (From a holiday!?)
What truly amazes me is that the decline in standards is despite there now being resident wardens in the field!? I could not tell you who they are, what they look like or what they do, as I have not seen anything of them -other than the day they were drilling a door by the showers, which they then left wide open. With bleach and cleaning products in easy reach of the unsupervised toddler and children running riot on site.
We most certainly will not ever be returning after this visit, and would no longer recommend it to anyone (as I am fortunate enough not to personally know anyone who would behave or accept others behaving in such a way as the majority of the other guests).
Do not visit if you want to appreciate the peacefulness of. The countryside, or if you have normal, good-mannered children looking for an innocent, supervised camping play experience.

Only stayed for one night as we were only testing our new tent.
We struck gold!
Superb location. Perfect for exploring the nice end of Dorset. It is in the back garden of a pub where the food is great, the staff are friendly and the loudest thing you hear is the birds twittering and chirping away.
On site wardens keep the unique toilets clean and tidy. One was a shepherd's hut and one was a horsebox! Kids play area with an old double decker bus in there.
Negatives? The lights in the toilets are on a timer and they need extending. 10 seconds is not enough time to do what you have to do! Wave your arms and they'll come back on.
It is a basic campsite so don't expect WiFi, hook up points or chemical disposal points. It's a field with toilets and showers, and that was just what we were looking for.

Play bus, safe area for children to play. Friendly goats and free food from behind the bar to feed them with.
Showers good but have to get up early. The wardens on hand 24/7 excellent job. Very clean and tidy camp site.
Spar shop n walking distance. Dorchester main town, 20 mins away by car.
Dog and child friendly pub. Lego and board games to keep children occupied.
Excellent 3 day break camping, with my Son and 2 Grandsons age 6 and 9.
Campfires allowed.

We often overlook local sites, or find good ones but they expand and get busy.
This is a fab local getaway, I cannot recommend it enough. It's the first site all summer that the children haven't wanted to leave each morning/afternoon/ at all.
It's based in a very quiet village, behind the local pub gardens. Believe it or not I can't comment on the pub, as I haven't eaten or drunk there but it looks lush and has a reasonably priced menu. There is live music on a Saturday night, pizza and barbeque evenings in the garden etc etc.
It also has beautiful furnished bell tents with proper wooden beds, lamps, fire pits etc etc and a couple of shepherds huts.
There is a converted double decker play bus that the children can pretend to drive, flick the switches, indicate etc and the upper and lower decks are converted to a soft play. There's an enclosed play area outside it with soft blocks, balls, and toddler things.
In the orchard there is a free crazy golf course, and home to 4 goats, free food for them from the pub. There's a couple of tree swings hanging around, a stream running round the site with places to play in it (when not dry like it is now), walks, hidden paths, a willow hideout and a secret island seating area.
The camping field is car free so it's safe to roam, and currently has a total of 2 tents in; and the lush hot showers and toilets are housed in cute converted shepherds huts and a horse box.
We have finally found a new site for peaceful grown up time and proper old school kids camping fun.

Beautiful village with public footpaths leading to a number of walks. However if you want a short walk just head round a loop of the village to see the local church, large manor houses and thatched cottages. Great clean facilities on site -
Showers, toilets and washing up station set up in shepherd huts, horse trailers and open air shelters all with hot water.
Level site suitable for range of camping options including bell tents and shepherds hut to hire named after great explorers.
Pub offers food and a large garden with orchard and huge bespoke tent for functions and not forgetting the Pygmy goats also cater for kids. Met Sarah on site who gave me an overview and welcome.
Bins available on the way out so no excuse to leave any rubbish behind. Small stream runs along the edge of the field with a range of large trees providing shade on some parts of the site if needed.
Sun rise in the morning hits the entrance side of the field first. Would definitely recommend this laid back idyllic spot even had folk band at the pub for the nights entertainment.
Cost £20 for tent for 1 night 1 adult. This was my first time camping and chose a great place to trial my set up. Only 1 thing to consider but not a deal breaker.
You can hear slight road traffic from the main A road at night not sure if it was the A35, 30 or 37- expect it’s also depends on which way the wind is blowing.

We love this place, our first time and definitely coming back. Staff so friendly, food fantastic.
Location quiet, local shop 10 mins walk away. Weymouth half hour drive away. Mini golf on site. A band every Saturday night serving the full menu and outside is a pizza oven baked from fresh.
Overall a lovely 7 days. Thank you very much
