We chose this site as it was close to our friends who live in Scorton. We arrived Friday afternoon but there was no Warden on duty. Another guest told us just to park anywhere there was a hook up. The warden appeared later that evening to take payment. Didn't appear to have our name even though we had booked by telephone but it wasn't a problem.
The pitches are spacious with plenty of hook up points and water. Although there were many visitors it was still quiet. We enjoyed a lovely walk around the lake and could see the attraction for those with families. We didn't even venture to the facilities - so can't comment there - they were a long way from the site anyway and we are an independent unit so didn't need them.
However, the waste disposal point was overflowing - to the point of you had to be careful where you stepped! Yes, disgusting. There were 3 bins - all over full. Again, not pleasant and had it been a hot weekend would have been worse. Thank goodness they were a long way from the vans.
That said we would stay again next time we visit our friends.

Just spent a night here to see friends on our way home from Scotland.
We were almost put off by the negativity of the reviews but so glad we were t. Beautiful site lovely wardens and so peacful.
We would definitely come again.
We have a motor home so toilet and washing facilities on board. The site doesn't have these but it doesn't claim to. It says they are available nearby. Which they are. We chose not to use them. The chemical disposal is as you drive in. We emptied on arrival and as we left. Yes it's a bit of a stroll from the pitches but would you want it closer??
Lovely simple site. Great value lovely people.

Spent one night here for a canoeing event.
Location:
The site surrounds Ellerton Lake, which us very popular water sports location. The temporary camping field was set in a nice wood by the water.
Facilities:
Pretty basic but they do the job for a short stay. Launching fees etc. Are separately charged.
Lovely spot!

Great site really love it, the wardens on the campsite are really nice and very helpful. Shame that the toilets are so far away and not very safe at night. And there is no discount for watersports when your staying on the site.
But its really peaceful, very friendly people on the site many are seasonal tourers.
No problem about your dogs. Plenty to do in the area.
Plenty of wildlife around
Large pitch sizes so you are not on top of each other and you can all get together and put your vans in any shape so groups are all facing each other.

Been to this campsite three times now. Right by the side of a fishing and watersport lake. Nice and relaxed. You are able camp with groups of friends with no problems.
It is a reasonably big site but never seems too crowded - plenty of space between vehicles. There is a dog walk around the lake and Richmond is not far away. We went to Durham for the day from here quite easily. The village of Scorton is about 15/20 minutes walk - there is two pubs and a village green.
We have just spent a very nice Easter break there made better by the lovely weather.
Only downside I can think of is that the toilets and showers are quite a way from the caravans - 5/10 minutes walk approx at the other side of the lake (divers and watersporting people use them to get washed as well).
Have had some good weekends at this site.

Great setting for fishing but facilities are not up to standard. The 'new first class' toilet and shower facilities advertised on their site is a breeze block building with mould spots all round the top of walls and ceiling.
The showers have no where to put your clothes while you have a shower or bench in the shower cubicle only outside for anyone to come in and take your stuff, there is door only a old grubby curtain. The toilet block is not in the caravan site it is in the diving, water sports car park and is all shut up after 5pm, if you need to access them you have to take the chain off the gate go in then close gate and chain up again on way out.
Late at night I felt it was not safe to try and walk in the dark as there is no lighting from the site to the facility so could end up in the lake. I felt it was dangerous to drive over as the access road is single track with drop on either side so who would like to reverse back in the dark if a car comes towards you.
If they put a toilet block and shower facilities on the camp site itself this could be a great site especially if the lake was stocked better with fish. The elsan disposal is not walking distance from the caravans either.
The play area and farm shop are also not on site they are nearly a mile down the road, their website is so deceiving.
The site is in good location with sunday market nearby, caravan sales and accessories nearby. More money needs to be spent on this site to bring it up to standard and offer 'on site' facilities.
The wardens were friendly and helpful

This site needs some money spent on it. It is just a big field with long grass with nettles in it. It is very very Basic, There is only one service point and it is a hike away from caravans, and it is not nice at all. The showers and toilets are about a 10 min walk away and are shared with scouts, fishermen, and all and sundry. There should be a toilet block on the site. The good thing about this site is the Lake and view. But to be honest you can only see it if you have a seasonal pitch as all the touring caravans just get put in the middle of the field.

We absolutely loved it. We went two weekends running and decided to stop for a month, only £155 for a month, we only go at weekends but loved it so much we were not bothered,
lynn and her husband are the wardens there, they are both really nice people, very pleasant and helpful. The shower and toilets are quite a distance away about 6 minute walk, so its not for people without a toilet in there vans. It's very basic but it has that wow factor, but only if you want peace and quiet.
There's a big lake to fish or do water sports on,or a small boat, there isn't much to do but as I say it gives you the relaxation you want. There's no tents allowed on it and not a lot of noise, that's the reason we love it
What more can I say, apart from its not ideal for everyone, but if you want a pleasant quiet atmosphere, it's for you

This used to be an excellent site but now the prices have become extortionate relative to the facilities
There is only one toilet app 7 mins walk from the field which is just roughly cut grass now with hook up.
Prices are one unit with 2 people £12.50 per night add another 2 people a further £7 this does not entitle you to put a kayak or other canoe etc in the water, charges for this are per person not per boat. It is £5.50 per person to use the water per day even if you only go in for an hour each. So all in all a family of four with teenage kids wanting to go in the water is a grand total of £41.50 per day

Although we stayed on the rally field we had a good look round the site. The official site is well enclosed and small but the site is growing quickly round the back. The new toilet and shower block was clean and warm though still fairly basic. We did not see any electric hook ups but looking at the way the site is growing I would be surprised if they were not along shortly. It is situated along side a lake that offers lots of activities from canoe hire to diving tuition, fishing is also available. There is a lovely walk around the lake that takes around 45 minutes. There are 2 pubs in the near area but make sure you have a booking if you want a meal, we were not able to get a table but it was Easter Saturday. Everything looked great that was being served. We went to Northallerton on Saturday to shop, it has a good range and a market. On Sunday there is a Sunday market at Catterick racecourse, about a 10 minute drive away. There are also 2 large caravan dealers close by both with large shops. There is a new craft market within walking distance that has a country shop and cafe attached. It was lovely stuff but a little out of our price bracket. All in all we had a brilliant weekend, though as I said we were on a rally. If we were in the area again we would have no hesitation stopping at the site.
