 Website description not entirely accurate. No restaurant. Cafe mainly for fishermen, only open in morn and then closed until after 4 pm. Cafe was rough, staff were very rude.
Unisex toilets combined with shower. Website states tents with water. Had to walk amongst motor homes to find their electric point and hence water taps.
No owner on site. No shop, only tackle shop, nets bait etc.
This site is not one for tents. Field we had to ourself. No fire hydrants and as stated no water taps nearby.
Will definitely not be visiting again.

Grass kept nice, the fishing is really good. Food on site but only at certain times, didn’t eat there, , also a small bar was not to sure when it was open.
It needs more bins maybe a bin or two near the showers by the tourer area. Showers are good but needs to have a bit of maintenance before things get totally broken.
We had really good weather so when the sun shines things always look good.
We would go again. About 20 walk to Morrison go over foot bridge at the bottom end of the site walk to end of the lane then right. Town about another 5-10 mins. Was able to buy eggs and milk from the cafe.

I stayed here to test our new to us tourer before the longer journey and holiday this year.
I have been caravanning many years and don't wish to be a snob although I have avoided, what I call, commercial sites.
This is such and I guess you get people coming to these, that are are not members of clubs and don't wish to be.
Unfortunately they do not seem to respect the rules on sites and privacy and respect of others.
First off a couple arrived who were to be part of a larger party.
They came into my unit. Literally and asked me to move my car to block off pitches.
I said I couldn't as I would be going to work actually and they would be best using chairs or water containers.
They said they struggled to find 4 pitches together, but alongside me were about 10 in a row?
My main gripe here is dogs. Once all this group arrived they had about 7 dogs between them, constantly yapping. But 3 of them were not kept on a lead and occasionally I would end up with one in my unit.
Where these dogs did their business the owners did not care.
I also saw other people arrive on different pitches the first afternoon and deposit dogs from cars as they arrive, whilst they set up.
This site is a dogs on leads site.
I did go to office eventually to complain the day before I left but I don't think anything was done about it, I never saw any staff visit.
I do not understand why people think this rule wouldn't apply to them.
I do not understand why people think its ok to let their dog roam around free, whilst constantly calling its name from 2 in the afternoon until 10pm at night, put it on a lead if you cant control it?
I ask you, if I ignored the site rule, no noise after 10pm, how would you like it if I invaded your unit with loud music all night?
I think after my fully explained complaint and reasonableness the site should have shown a presence, but there was none and for that I have to give a low score.
There is a new toilet block in the tourer area and that is good.
However the design is not good, they have tried to create wet rooms, with a drain across the room to separate the shower floor from the toilet area, however it doesn't work, the whole area gets wet. Toilet seats are broken and the block isnt finished yet with some cubicles having holes where showers may be fitted.
With a bit more care and presence from the staff this could be a great site. There is also goose poo everywhere but this is not the sites fault, there are a lot of wild fowl around, so its to be expected.
The touring site is an after thought and out of site out of mind, the more important money makers being fishing and statics.

Visited this facility many times as I really enjoy fishing. The fishing can be great at times as the lakes are very well stocked with carp, bream, roach and perch.
There is a large tackle shop on site so you never have to worry about bait or equipment and the guy behind the counter is always friendly and helpful.
There is a café on site that offers the basic English breakfast type meals, sausage, bacon & eggs and mugs of tea or coffee. It is very reasonable priced though.
There is also a bar but this does not open on a regular basis, seems to open (evenings)in peak weeks when busy and shuts pretty early when it does open.
PRO's
*Very good fishing
*Good tackle shop and café
*Bar (when open)
*Near to many interesting sites (Major Oak, Sherwood forest etc. )
*Large non-hook-up camping field (never gets crowded)
*Close to amenities (Morrison's, Asda and Retford Town)
CONS
* The toilet and shower block is a (very long) way from the camping area.
*There are occasions when the whole site is matched and only one small pond is available to fish which cannot accommodate all the pleasure angler that visit. So check availability (BEFORE) you buy a day ticket or a pitch, especially at weekends.
Summary:
Not a bad place to visit but could do with a new toilet/shower block near the camping/touring field as the existing one is just too far away. Probably best for short visits.

Very nice quiet and clean site. Didnt need to book for no electric hook, just turned up. Electric gates close at 8pm and you are given a code once you have arrived.
Will definitely visit again. Only criticism is the showers and toilet are a fair walk from tourer field.

Stayed here for the first week of our summer adventure, purely as it was local to where we lived.
This site is basically a fisheries and static site that has added tourers on as an afterthought. Its situated in the lovely market town of Retford. The site has now segmented the pitches properly and each is a good size, there are electric hook ups and a water point close by.
At the side of this is a large field called the 'touring field' which is basically an expanse of grass where you find a space and pitch, never seen it full so should not be on top of each other unless too want to be. Unfortunately the facilities are at the other end of the fisheries, there are basic public toilets for men, none for ladies, but what they do have is a toilet/ shower room in a brick block.
This is also where the CDP and rubbish facilities are. Not the best in the world but if you can handle basic and want an all in price for 2 adults of £80 a week its great value.
The fishing is as good as anywhere you will go but is chargeable extra. Check which pitches you can have as 3 hours after we pitched, despite the fact there were 8 of 10 pitches vacant, we were told we had to move as someone had booked that pitch for Friday (half way through our stay) but after a long debate it was agreed we could stay put.
There is an on site cafe which is good quality food but not the cheapest, there is a better cafe just round the corner on the industrial park opposite the post office.

This cost only £9 per night without electricity, £12 with. It was a strange site but probably OK if you like fishing. The site was built in and around several ex gravel pit lakes turned into fishing ponds with marked fishing pitches.
The reception was quite friendly & there was a café/ bar which seemed well used by the fishermen either for cooked breakfast to start the day or drink & snack to finish it and talk over the catch. The site caters mostly for day fishing permits and for static vans, presumably owned by the fishing community.
It didn’t really cater for touring outfits though as the touring area was a long walk from the toilet block down by the reception area. The toilets & showers were in need of some refurbishment but fairly clean. Showers were charged at £1 for 6 mins.
The site didn’t seem very child safe as the fishing ponds had deep water. There seemed to be several officious signs around such as “Keep off the grass”. Retford though had a good Morrisons with well priced petrol to stock up.

Stayed overnight on this site as we were doing an event which started the next day very close to the site - wasn't quite sure what we'd find after previous comments ! Certainly ticked the box for what our requirements were however.
There is an on site cafe/reception area which isn't open all the time but if you turn up when it's closed, as we did, there are clear contact instructions and I met up easily enough with the site owner who ran me through the site facilities and gave me a choice of hardstanding or grass with hookup, chose the latter as the ground was firm enough and no problems there.
Yes the toilet block was a bit of walk - we had onboard facilities so this wasn't an issue for us to be honest. The potholes in the gravel track referred to by a previous poster have been filled in, certainly the track is in better nick than some I've been up. Can't comment on the fishing as I don't fish myself - there's clearly a lot of people who visit the site for the fishing.
There's a pub about twenty minutes walk which does the usual steak/fish/bar menu type food (currently a sizzling pubs), packed when we went to eat but we obviously hit at the peak time, quite satisfied with what we had and quite a bit quieter when we were coming out after.
Child friendliness ? Ours are in the don't go with parents any more stage so didn't look at the site with this in mind, keep in mind though the attraction of this site is fishing and therefore there is a lot of water around. Distance to pint of milk ?
The on site shop facilities may supply (didn't use them myself as just there overnight) but with the density of housing nearby there has to be a corner shop somewhere there. Use again ? If this is the nearest site for what we're doing, not a problem.

Just been for the weekend and we were very disappointed with the whole site. When we arrived we had to telephone the house as the reception was deserted. We obviously were not expected but we were in the diary. We had our money taken off us but we had to ask where to pitch up. Caravans had to placed in a certain position and were cramped together. On reflection we could have driven on site, pitched up and spent the weekend there for nothing as we saw no one official for the duration. Another caravanner told us about water and waste water. The dustbin was 10 minutes walk back to the reception area.
Like other reviews the toilet and shower block is around 10-15 minute walk from the tourer site as is the toilet disposal point, not very well thought out for the likes of me and others who are disabled.
On the saturday, fishing was available on the lake nearest to the tourer pitches and for the pleasure angler the fishing was disappointing. Worse to come on sunday! the only lakes available for pleasure fishing were the 2 furthest from the tourer pitches. The one we fished is called the stock/river ponds and on the web site it says 'it is ideal for children and beginners as it is full of fish and everyone will catch plenty', but I am an experienced angler and only managed 5 small carp over 8 hours, most of the dozen or so other anglers on there blanked. We noticed on Sunday that a match on one lake had only 1 angler every 3 pegs and on another l angler every 2 or 3 pegs, match angling the priority here.
All in all I would heed the reviews very carefully when thinking about staying here. Oh and just noticed it states there are 20 pitches. Only 10 with electric hook up.

Justspent a few days on the site.I am glad to be home!
The location was in the middle of an industrial site and a tip at the entrance.Describes there being a cafe and a bar,it was very basic and a dissapointment.
Toilets and shower block were again very basic and tired, also quite a distance from the pitches.
We had two children in our party and brochure describes lots of space for children to play on,we spent most of the day telling the children to be quiet as not to disturb the fisher men.
I will not be visiting this site again and strongly suggest that the site re evaluate the information on their brochures!
