This site has better than average views, is quieter than average, is open all year, and at £6 for two people, is good value!

Additionally, we had the option for electric hook-up for our tent and we could choose where to pitch.

There are no footpaths nearby, nor traffic. But you can clearly hear the low hum of traffic from the main road over a mile away.

The view is reasonable, since you can see Eastwards for miles, but the hills are miles away.

There are only a few level spots (off the hardstandings) and the drainage is poor, so at busy times in wet weather, finding a dryish levelish pitch could be a challenge. This site doesn't appear suitable for groups or kids, thanks to the lack of facilities, which made it nice and quiet for us. On our Monday in December, we had the campsite to ourselves!

 Well as promised, we returned.

The site has not changed, and is still as wonderful as before, this time we had beautiful weather as well.

So pleased to see Appleby and the surrounding area back on its feet after the terrible flooding of last and early this year.

This is a lovely quiet site, the field is sloping, we picked our spot and found a level bit half way down the field. With an extension we even had EHU.

A bit off the beaten track, but I really do recommend this site for a quiet spot to stay.

What a lovely family run camp site.

Off the beaten track and very quiet except for sheep and cows and the odd birds.

We visited in our Folding Camper and stayed on the hard standing.

Hawkrigg is a working farm so care must be taken around the farm at all times. We were there while there were loads of lambs around so it was essential to control the dogs and they were on leads at all times.

The camping field is on a slope but does have level areas dotted about.

There are some caravans sited on a second field but I think these are all privately owned.

The hard standing is at the top of the field. There are some EHU's but only near the house.

The 2 toilets are next to the house along with WC and Grey water Waste Disposal and fresh water tap.

The shower is round the corner near the cow shed.

There are no shops within walking distance, but eggs are available from houses in the village.

The nearest shops are in Appleby which is a nice little town.

Ideally situated for exploring the area, we will certainly visit again!

We visited Hawkrigg Farm at Colby near Appleby. Greeted by the lady who runs the site. Who showed us the amenities very friendly family run farm. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lots of lovely walks in the area. Magnificent views. Lovely quiet site will definitely return frequently. Had a lovely 2hr walk on Bridle way's. Very handy for visiting the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales.

Just come back from a three night camping break at Hawkrigg. The farm itself is quite easy to find. There was 4 adults, 2 xl tents and between us we had 7 dogs. As it was the run up to the jubilee and the Appleby horse fair we per-booked and got permission for the extra dogs (3max). As it was quite busy we requested a spot away from other people and they allowed us to camp in a different field where they had allowed another party to camp.

The field was quite hilly and flat spots hard to find but we were really pleased to be further away from the tourers (having 7 dogs). The dogs have to be on a lead at all times because of the cattle which was not an issue for our party.

However, being in a field that is further away meant that the toilets were a bit of a walk up and down the sloping field (again not an issue for us as we requested to be in that field). There were 2 toilets which were very basic but clean but the single shower room was a bit of a walk and had to go around to the back of the cottage to use it.

The farmer and his wife were very friendly and approachable and their 2 very friendly collies jess and lassie would greet us at the loo and often follow us back up the field. The site went nice and quiet at around 9. 30-10 pm and everyone respected that rule as it is a lovely working farm.

All in all, basic but friendly and accommodating. However, if your interested in a less busy site I would recommend going a couple of weeks before or after the Appleby horse fair

I love this campsite and have been many times over the last few months. It's so quiet and homely.

I find the prices very reasonable and the people very friendly and helpful.

Perfectly located for any avid walker with only a short drive to Ullswater and other parts of the Lakes and Dales. But also good if you really want to get away from it all too as it's quite a hidden little corner of Cumbria so you can hide away from the world if you'd prefer to just enjoy the piece and quiet.

It's a good 40-50 minute walk to the pub in Appleby, but we quite like the exercise.

This was an unexpected little gem! We booked a hard standing pitch and were very glad we did as it was a rather wet weekend and there was lots of mud around!

There are 2 hardstanding pitches at the top of the sloping field.

The views are absolutely beautiful.

The roads leading to the farm are rather narrow but we didn't meet any other vehicles on the way to the farm so it was no problem. We'd suggest not driving over the moors if you're towing a caravan though! Go through Appleby instead - oh the joys of Sat Nav!

The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble - particularly when we tripped the electric and had to get them to re-set a few times!

The toilet facilities were very basic but always clean - so no complaints.

The two sheepdogs were lovely and welcoming and often came to greet us with a wagg of their tails!

We'll visit again for sure!

We stayed here over the Easter weekend and had a great time (the good weather helped!).

The site was on a slope as stated but we were able to get the van level.

The toilets were basic and there was a shower behind the farmhouse which was a little further away than the toilets but was always hot & is roomy enough (worth 25p!).

The surrounding roads to the farm are a bit narrow so plan your route carefully (and watch out when using SatNav). The lane to the farm itself is really just a track but is fine if you take your time. The owner checked what time we were arriving to ensure that no-one else was likely to be using the lane at that time. The owner was very friendly and obliging.

It is a working farm, but our kids enjoyed playing with the friendly farm dogs Jess & Lassie.

The surrounding scenery was lovely and the town of Appleby was a few miles away which had a number of shops, walks and restaurants

A good enjoyable break!

I thought the price of £9 per night somewhat excessive, the lane to the farm is very narrow and potholed. There are hardstandings which is just as well with the wet conditions we had. The farm smelled strongly of cow muck! that said, the owner is very friendly and the dogs Jess and Lassie are lovely, there are good views when it's not raining. Not really much to do or see in Appleby, but it's a nice quaint old fashioned place.
