I was visiting Ralphs cider weekend and decided to try a static for the first time. I was pleased with the static and site. Very clean site, very helpful staff, great facilities and close to Ralphs cider farm too!
I will stay there again as the place was excellent.
We are both campers and are looking forward to returning with our tent maybe next time as well.
Didnt know they had internet till the last moment, but was so laid back weekend it really didn't matter.

We stayed at The Old Station for a couple of days in June. We found the owners very friendly and helpful and allocated us a good pitch not very far from the facilities. The facilities are very good, very clean, and hot water, washing up liquid and even dog bags supplied too! I think that the gents might need an extra toilet at busy times but when we were there it wasn`t a problem. The dog walking area is off site up a quiet lane which leads to some off road tracks. The local village has some interesting history and there is a small but very well stocked shop. The local pub was closed so we drove towards Builth but found the next two pubs were shut on Mondays so we continued to Hundred House (about 20 mins, ) and had a superb meal and real ale. We sat outside as dogs aren`t allowed in the pub. Good walking country.

Nice site set on and old railway station.
Site is split with statics, cottage in the middle, which was the old ticket office that has been renovated, and tourers. Few seasonal.
Pitches are quite close together especially if you put an awning up.
Large toilet block with a room with washing machines, washing up facilities etc,
Only 1 shower in each gender though.
Nice Children's play area just a short work away opposite the school.

Nice site only stayed a night in passing. The owner was waiting for us even when we arrived a bit late and it was pouring.
Facilities were fine, powerful hot shower, and central gas heating in toilets.
Site wide wifi and free.
Perfect place, especially if you are looking for peace and quiet.

Just got back from a two night stay with my 10 year old cousin and dog at the old station caravan site. Have to say the owners are very friendly and there dogs too! They have some great advice on walks around the site.
The site is right on the A44 though I did manage to miss the sign and drive straight past but saw the turn for new Radnor so new I had gone to far.
Being so close to the road I expected it to be quite loud with traffic but was pleasantly surprised to find it was actually pretty quiet and you'd never know how close you are to the road (is safe for kids as entrance is on a lane off the main road).
The facilities are basic but very clean, there's a small room with fridge, washer, dryer and sink which we used to cook in, as it we were the only two there. The toilets were also very clean and heated!
There's plenty of walks around the site including the waterfall water break-it's-neck being just a mile or so up the road and well worth a trip. The élan valley is just a half hour/40 minute drive away too.
Considering the weather the ground was pretty good for pitching the tent. Would quite happily make a return visit as can't find any major faults!

An easy to find site on the Builth Wells - Hereford road on the opposite of the main road to New Radnor Village
Smart amenities block with Clean roomy toilet and well appointed shower facilities. 1 shower/1 toilet each so possibility of delays when site is busy - quiet when we were there.
Level hard standing with hook-up - £15. - per night - good value.
Would have appreciated a hose at the water-tap for fresh-water refill and a 'park-over' grey water disposal rather than having to bucket-it away.
Friendly helpful owners

We had one night's camping at The Old Station and were very pleased with it. The site is level and the owners, John and Libby, were most welcoming and friendly. There is only 1 men's and 1 ladies shower (both extremely large), but as the site is predominantly for static and touring vans we did not find it an issue - the toilet/shower block is quite new and very clean.
The owners also run a tea room on site, very handy on arrival for a cuppa (or ice lollies in our case being hottest day of year to date). There is a bit of road noise, but really nothing to moan about.
New Radnor is a 3-4 min walk away where we found the Radnor Arms Hotel (very quaint), but no draft Guinness at the moment, despite the tap on the bar! Minor moan, the cans of draft are fine. Meal was more than adequate but this is not a bistro pub (thankfully) and prices reflected that by being reasonable.
We would recommend this site for tourers (being ex-caravanners of many years), perhaps with qualification for campers due to the limited camping spaces, but we will definitely use it again if we find ourselves in the area.

After reading the review left by Andy, I feel I have to comment myself.
We have been going to this site for years now and never had reason to complain. There were more than 4 families on site when Andy was there and only his party had reason to complain. If you were not happy with the showers etc why did you not use your own facilities. You were in a van not camping.
The toilets are cleaned everyday and if there was a mess it must have been all of you making it, any normal family would tidy up after themselves. It is a family site and the owners make everyone and their dogs welcome.

I wont go over previously raised that's been mentioned relating to this site, just to clarify a few points. That the wi-fi proved to be a plus! with the kids. The toilet and shower block were not cleaned in the 2 week period I believe, that's the report from 4 families on site. Can confirm lack of hot water be it for washing pots and showers that's peak time morning and evening. When mentioned they said 'girls used it all up in showers'. At times felt like a rush for hot water be it morning or evening. But only 4 families on site! Dont get me wrong seems we self cleaned whilst there. Bin area not monitored either daily, seemed that sorted prior to weekly refuse collection, or owners trip to recycling bins in New Radnor. Dont let this put you off. I enjoyed a peaceful 2 weeks, noise from main road only noticeable on weekends with motor bikes, though odd scrambler motor biker passed in nearby Forest.
Overall would say a good site, great food and ale in New Radnor, basic provisions too at New Radnor including ordering papers and bread. Nearest shop at Kington. Site owners could improve this site so much if they had enthusiasm!

Management response: We were disappointed to read Andy’s review as we pride ourselves on keeping our toilet block and site clean and tidy. Andy was part of a larger party (4 families) whose stay extended over the August Bank Holiday, when we were up to capacity on the Park with other visitors. Many of these are return visitors who come year after year.
As regards the hot water, our showers are free and there is ample hot water for the number of visitors, but we do ask that people are sensible when showering! As soon as we were made aware of the hot water situation the immersion heater was switched on constantly for the duration of their stay and we always ask that people come tell us about any problem.
We are glad that Andy enjoyed a peaceful 2 weeks with us, as we are a small, relaxing Park where many people come to unwind and enjoy the beautiful countryside. |
