Please note we have been advised that this site has permanently closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

Really cannot recommend this site at all, but in terms of a balanced review, here goes:

Pros:

Soft, drained ground, nice views, plenty of space, large field, near the steam railway which passes by.

Cheap.

Cons:

Very limited facilities for size of the site (however it was a relatively cheap site).

2 x outside washing up sinks - without lighting, and with limited hot water supply.

Female toilets apparently had 4 toilets and 4 showers, mens had three toilets and similar number of paid for showers, - be prepared to queue. Short showers were 50p (bought tokens).

Doesn't take card payments, which is referenced on the website, but easily forgot and not reminded, especially as they take electronic deposit payment. After a long drive, arriving in the evening, we didn't have enough cash to pay for the weekend on us as we had not noticed that they did not take cards, so we agreed to pay later. Upon doing her rounds the following morning, the lady owner was visibly exasperated when we still didn't have the £130 cash ready - and was told that 'it had better be today' that we paid.

I can forgive a lack of services (cheap site), and not always being clean, as things do get dirty in a field, but I will not forgive rudeness and contempt for customers.

We had a wonderful few days here. What a site!

Will definitely return. The children loved the playground, hopping on and off the railway was handy and the shop on site stayed open almost all hours. Most of all, the staff were very friendly and we felt so welcome.

It was excellent value too.

We found this site by chance as the one that we had planned to go to was too windy and sloped for our liking. The superb local park next to the community center caught our eye on the way in. On arrival it was also very windy, but the owners were so friendly we went in search of a sheltered pitch.

The site was excellent, the facilities came under a bit of pressure on the sat night, but remained clean during our stay.

Seemed a bit odd that there was no hot water for washing up, but as we had pitched so far away we just did our own thing by the tent anyway.

We will definitely return as there is so much to do in the local area and the owners were lovely.

Have just come back from this lovely site. Booked for 2 nights but extended our stay by another 2 nights which the manager had no problem with.

Lovely site with wonderful views across Purbeck from the site office and the toilet block. I think there were 3 or 4 fields to choose from. Like other reviewers I would recommend the edges of the fields if you're looking for a flat pitching site. Lots of space in the middle of each field for ball games etc.

The site is close to the Harmans Cross station of the Swanage Railway which is a lovely (if expensive) way to get around the area. We camped right next to the line and although the noise was noticeable on the first evening, we soon got used to it.

We loved being able to hire a fire pit and we spent each evening toasting marshmallows and reading stories to the kids around the fire.

Lots of wonderful night skies - saw the Milky Way, Mars, Saturn and a flyover from the International Space Station. Will remember to bring my telescope next time.

Really lovely people managing the site. Lots of useful local knowledge and very keen to help in any way they could.

The toilets and showers were clean most of the time but quickly became flooded and struggled to cope with the demand during peak times. There were long queues for the showers and loos in the mornings. The 2 washing up sinks (cold water only) also seemed a little inadequate so we washed up at the tent. Not sure how eco-friendly that is though.

But those small gripes are all balanced by the fact that this site is really good value for money. I was happy to queue and forego hot water at the washing up sinks because the prices were so reasonable. If I'd been paying £50-£60 a night (as some other places charge), I would have expected more. At less than £20 a night for me and my two kids, I think it was excellent value.

We'll definitely be coming back in the future.

Our second visit to this site and another great 4 day break. David and Denise were excellent - showed us a good place to pitch and helped with local knowledge. The new toilet/shower block was clean and tidy with good showers. A lovely setting alongside the steam railway and large areas for the kids to play. A well stocked shop which was open all day and well into the evening. David or Denise were always available and keeping an eye on the site which made it feel nice and secure to let the kids roam around. And even the sun was out all weekend ! We will be back again.  We have just come back from our first ever family turn up and pitch camping trip.

The site was well sign posted and on arrival the manager was very helpful in pointing out a good spot for pitching our tent and gave us local information on the steam train and playground.

The site was lovely and clean. We pitched on the first field as you entered, and the steam train track ran along the bottom of the field which my two boy's loved, the playground which was by the entrance to the site was good but you would have to stay and supervise younger children as cannot be seen from the site.

There is a Village Hall behind the left hand side of this field in the same field as the playground, it had a wedding on the Friday night and a band playing on the Saturday so was noisy if you don't like that kind of thing, although we quite enjoyed it.

Toilets and showers were fine could have done with cleaning every now and then but think that is down more to the people using them to clean up after yourself rather than the staff. The shop was good, had a good selevction and we hired a fire pit our first night.

The site was in a good location for Swanage and Corfe Castle and a lot of other places should you want to travel around.

Unfortunately we cut our trip short due to the bad weather but we will definitely be returning to this site again and have recommended to friends already.

As previous reviews have said this site is set in the Purbeck hills and so as expected it is a hilly site, having said that we managed to find a flat spot around the edge of the first field with lots of space for the children to play and the steam railway behind which was really novel and the children loved.

There is a really well equipped park close by which again was loved by the children.

The site shop seemed stocked up with essentials and tourist info and stayed open most of the day until 9pm at night.

The downside to this site was the amenities, having 2 toilets and 2 showers each for the men and women, to cater for the amount on site was inadequate given that there were queues in the ladies at various times. If they were cleaned it never appeared to look like they had during our stay.

There was only cold water at the washing up sink as previous reviews and although I don't know how cold water is supposed to wash dirty dishes it didn't bother us to boil water and wash up at base.

This is a lovely family friendly site but is overpriced due to its lack of amenities.

Heavy rain before we arrived and ground water-logged but plenty of space to choose a relatively flat pitch. Sloping site but fairly level around the edges. Pitch where you like, except the fenced off C&CC area. Space for kids to play on bikes and even kite flying. Great play area for younger children next to the community centre near to the site entrance. Great to see and hear the steam train pass by the bottom of the field, but not so great to hear it later at night if you want to bed down early as we always do! Fairly basic facilities but great location. Good walks from the site but take a map as no info on site. Small shop on site with usual necessities (including fresh bread/croissants daily). Half way between Swanage and Corfe Castle, both on the steam train line, but it is possible to walk. We attempted to walk to Chapman's Pool but without a decent map we ended up at Winspit on the coast which was worth a trip in itself (derelict quarry caves and great rocky beach) - a couple of hours walk each way. Friendly and helpful owners who seemed to be around most of the time. Dog walking field the other side of the train track (couple of minutes walk). Lots to do in the area. Beautiful coastline. All in all, a great site in a village location with the benefit of a steam railway on the doorstep.
