Quite site. Good toilet and showers facilities.

Very clean and well kept.

Andrew even offered a lift if we wished to shops and restaurants.

There are no shops, pubs or restaurants nearby. A car is advised.

I live and work in London so being in the middle of no where is a culture shock and a breath of fresh air.

The site is exceptional maintained and the cleaning facilities very clean and the warm water at 5. 30am a bonus.

Thank You!

Problems of access because level bar Is sometimes unattended.

They are probably used to people staying longer and provide customers with a code. More personnel?

We have been here a few times and found it very much to our liking: spacious and affording ample privacy from other users.

Surroundings are peaceful and quiet and shared with some rabbits and plenty of birds.

Facilities for us are spotless, and, for the caravan, there is a good yard for washing and cleaning. After the stay is over we put the caravan back into the locked storage area.

Everything about the place is secure and is well supervised and managed.

If its a bit wet underfoot he happily tows you out to 'dry land' with the tractor!

For shopping/provisions there is a Sainsburys closeby, beside the Perkins factory.

I'm the pickiest of people when I go away from home and like staying here very much.

Northey Lodge is 3 miles east of Peterborough and can be reached along National Cycle Route 63 via the north bank of the Nene and via the Peterborough Green Wheel (route 21).

There is a Go Camping store in Peterborough if you need gas, 4. 5 miles from the site. Take care on the last 200m approaching the site as this local road is surprisingly busy, not really 2 lanes wide and some people drive too fast approaching the sharp bend and hill over the dyke. You can just cycle along the top of the dyke in the grass direct to the site entrance but this is very long so hard work.

The nearest supermarket is in Whittlesey, 2. 3 miles along route 63, so if coming from Peterborough stock up at Asda. Whittlesey also has pubs and restaurants but there is nothing walkable from the site except Flag Fen.

Flag Fen:

This is a must see very near the campsite. Open 10-4, Wednesday to Sunday, it's got a kids play are (nothing on the site), recreated iron age and bronze age huts and the Flag Fen 3000 year old raised walk way. They serve teas and coffees with sandwiches and cake and there were free guided tours on the day we visited. It's 1. 3 miles from the site so an easy walk and very easy off road cycle path (apart from the first 200m as noted above. )

The campsite:

Entry is via a very tall security gate (you are given the code and can come and go at any time) and reception is open 10-5 each day, which seems slightly short evening hours for such a large site. (On the Sunday the reception was late opening. At 10:15 there were 3 people waiting to get in. )

This also means you can only get access to the laundry 10-5 and can't turn up late although we assume the contact number would mean someone would come out to help, but we didn't need to test this (CCC sites have staff on duty to 8pm) We saw people through the reception hatch and occasionally out on the site (eg cleaning the loos) but there wasn't really anyone around unless you asked at reception.

We were surprised as to how empty the site was, which suited us as it was very quiet apart from some noise from the road (boy racers!) and early start farmers. Several caravans are occupied by people working locally and I was woken at 6am on our last morning by people leaving in cars.

Given you can use the entry gate any time there is a risk of someone coming back late at night and disturbing people, but this did not happen when we were there. It would be better to have the area by reception as late night/early moring parking and a barrier by the bins to stop cars driving around when people are sleeping.

Facilities block:

There is only one new facility block which was kept spotless. This is upsteps to access the entrances, so there is no disabled accesible toilet on site, surely not allowed under equality laws? Unlike othersites the showers are not the timed push buttons (hurrah) but to make the electrics work you need to pull a cord switch outside the showers and the cords have been knotted up high, not an issue for me, but my 5ft1 wife was not so impressed.

Fortunately the womens loo has a chair she could stand on to reach the cord! The showers have no seats or shelves for washbags, which would be easy to add and only one hook. In order to keep clothes off the damp floor it needs a lot more hooks, I'd suggest 4 per cubical. There are 2 x loos, 2 x showers and 2x basins in the womens and mens, with the men getting 2 urinals as well.

The washbasins are right next to the doors so if someone comes in when you are getting washed anyone passing can see you. There really ought to be a screen. The block also has a laundrette but we didn't use it so don't know what is provided.

My only concern with this block is if the site was full, it would probably not be enough capacity. (St Neots CCC site has 8 showers, 8 loos, 12 washbasins per sex for a similar sized site. )

Some negatives which need fixing:

Disbaled toilet and shower access does not exist which should be an urgent thing needing fixing.

The site claims on the website and through signs on site to be listed by the Camping and Caravanning Club, but it's not listed on the CCC website. So either fix this or remove the incorrect info.

The website is dated and needs making mobile friendly so it fills the screen correctly on phones. In particular there is no plan of the site and facilities. (There is a faded map at reception. )

There is a sign pointing to a unisex shower and dishwashing area, but this no longer exists, so please take the sign down. You can only wash up in the sinks in the loos. They were very clean but I think dishwashing and urinals should be kept separate. It just needs a couple of sinks outside the loo block under a shelter.

There is a shed labelled tourist information which is really sad. Inside is a table and chairs surrounded by empty leaflet dispensers and with out of date info on the walls (eg a CCC sites map from 2017. ) There are old books and magazines to borrow. I would suggest removing the tourist info and making this into a backpackers seating area. If a microwave cooker could be installed it would be an excellent help on a wet evening.

Bins: There were two tall bins labelled glass recycling but they were simply being used for general rubbish. Padlock the lids and cut a bottle sized hole in the lid to stop rubbish dumping.

This is a nice site which with a bit more attention to detail could be excellent, as it's a good location and very secure. We'd stay again, but it's not up to Camping and Caravanning Club standards when it easily could be. I'd suggest the owners go and stay a night at the nearby St Neots CCC site and see the differences.

Very pleasant stay at Northey Lodge. The facilities are basic but had everything we needed. Very quiet day and night.

Great wind shelter from the tall hedges all round the site.

Very well located for cycling into Peterborough city and near by town of Whittlesea.

Very secure site with electric gates and excellent value for money.

Website could do with an update on information about the site.
