I’ve got really mixed feelings about this campsite as it had a lot of things that we loved but also a lot of things that we didn’t like.

Firstly the things that we liked:-

It’s in a really lovely location with countryside all around and the steam railway bordering one side of the site. We like to park up and either walk everywhere or use public transport and it was perfect for this.

You could walk into Corfe castle, in another direction towards the coast at Chapman’s Pool (this is quite a long walk), across the fields (around a mile) to the railway station where trains go to Corfe castle and on to Wareham or into Swanage and finally we took a footpath to Langton Matravers and had a drink in the pub there.

There is also a bus stop outside the entrance to the site.

We really liked that there’s one whole field where dogs aren’t allowed which made it super peaceful if you don’t like dogs yapping constantly.

The site shop was extremely well stocked and the owner very helpful indeed.

The showers & toilets were clean enough (it was during the school holidays so the site was super busy).

The stuff we didn’t like was:-

The site isn’t manned during the evenings after the reception closed (at 7pm I think) and there’s no emergency contact and despite rules about noise none of it is enforced so it’s a free for all in terms of noise and behaviour.

Our first night there was a large family with relatives and friends having a party two pitches away with music blaring. The second night a group of teenage lads partied with loud music and shouting and swearing and there was no one around to get them to turn it down a bit. We didn’t stay for the third night as it wasn’t our scene.

I think mid week in term time it would be a really lovely site. It’s quite sloping in most of the fields so bring chocks in case you can’t get a flat spot.

Really disappointing campsite all round. Staff were thoroughly miserable and borderline rude.

Location was by a busy road but had to drive everywhere for anything.

Toilets and facilities sparse but still dirty. We thought there's not a lot to keep clean.

Will not be returning.

Open field site, good clean facilities but showers not included (50p).

Good location for geology, Corfe castle, Swanage railway.

Well stocked shop, pizza van Fri/sat

Overall, I had a nice extended weekend stay on this site, despite the site being near full capacity at the time of my visit, which is usually something I try and avoid.

The majority of the site is relatively flat, or only slightly sloping, which makes pitching tents (and sleeping in them) fairly easy and pleasant. Pitches where allocated, were large and spacious, and the field space was also great for non-allocated pitches.

The site is quite secluded too, despite not being far from the main road in to Swanage - being down in a slight dip protects you from some of the road noise. The railway running at the border of the site was nice.

The facilities were a bit mixed: the new block is great - clean, spacious and modern, whilst the older block is adequate - darker, more cramped and a little shabbier, but still perfectly acceptable. There were also festival style porta-cabin toilets which were slightly bizarre, but usable if no other options were available. All in all, plenty of perfectly adequate facilities.

Staff were friendly, and the shop seemed well stocked. Prices were ok, but as it was a peak part of the season, some extra expense is to be expected.

Access to walking paths was great, views were nice, and options for private and public transport to nearby attractions and towns were pretty good.

All in all, happy with my visit to this site!

This is the third time we have stayed at Woodyhyde and it is still a wonderful site.

Ideally located for the Jurassic coast it is also possible to walk to Corfe castle.

There is a bus stop at the end of the road to the site for the service to Swanage and in the other direction as far as Weymouth.

The pitches are large and it is possible to choose between hard standing and a grass pitch.

The facilities are clean and plentiful.

Negatives= Only 1 disabled shower in ladies, and assume 1 in mens. However not fit for purpose, the shower floods all the floor, leaving only one corner near the door size of a pair of shoes dry enough to stand in, (not safe, no non slip surface or mat), that's if you don't slip and fall first People who are not disabled use this as has a bigger space and a sink and loo in it, so if it is in use the adjoining showers have no hand rails, no non slip mat to use as an alternative. Health & Safety please!

The shop only being open 2hrs a day was always being negatively commented on, by fellow campers. Some campers commented that full of Aldi/lidl products at M&S type prices.

Shower tokens -what a pain, can you consider updating to not charging in this modern age please. 50p token for 4 Minutes, and could you supply freezer for campers own ice packs, like most sites do ?

Someone around in a reception area would be helpful, or mobile number to call for advice on arrival, several arrivals were confused about whether they could pitch along fence of railway line, or otherside of the fence for tents, it wasn't clear by the signage, whilst we were there a group of four pitched and were asked to move to opposite pitch, because they were a tent and not a campervan, but no campervans came that side which stated 'electric only' they booked ehu though? - two days later they left and today, tents were pitched all along field 1 fences, all ok now apparently, ? as it was Friday, we felt sorry for the original 4 young people.

Positives-

Pitches are spacious, no allocated numbers, but pick your own, the

Swanage Railway trains run through several times a day mostly steam trains with some diesel, great fun waving at passengers and drivers, as they passed, re-enacting 'The Railway Children'!.

Staff are cheerful and pleasant, but not very visible around site itself. Corfe castle village, Studland Middle beach, Royal signals Museum, Brownsea Island all visited and thoroughly recommended

All in all not bad but could do so much better.

Although the outlook was pleasant, and it was nice to be near the railway line, the site is looking tired.

It was very annoying to find the new toilet facilities block locked and the old one with the infant school height toilets open. While I understand that in early October there aren't enough campers to require both blocks to be open, surely it should be the better facilities that are made available?

There was also an irritating humming noise from the compressor unit attached to reception that went on throughout the night, so if you stay there, do not choose a pitch too near the reception building.

Nice tidy site with pitches next to the railway. Everything clean and tidy with plenty of water points and a new shower block.

Most pitches need leveling but there are a few electric ones on the level and tight under the railway bridge.

Nothing to be put off by though. Well situated for walks, Corfe or Swanage visits or rides on the Swanage Railway which is well worth a visit.
