The location is a little remote, but as mentioned in other reviews you can walk to the steam train at harmans cross and get into Swanage that way if you need.
The site is quite basic and hot water was NOT available all day for showers, my wife found the water completely cold at 10am. I think when the site gets quite busy it can't keep up with the demand for hot water. There are 5 women's showers and 3 mens showers in the toilet block.
There was always a queue for the one washing-up sink outside the toilet block, which does not have hot water either, so don't expect to get clean dishes! You also get the constant aroma of raw sewage as you queue 30 mins to wash your dishes. The sewage could be smelt from our tent a good 50m away downwind which wasn't pleasant. I'm not sure why the toilet block smells like this, it can't be plumbed in properly / must be badly designed.
Get used to cows waking you up at 6am when they get milked - They make a lot of noise!
I've given a few negatives so here's some plus points.
The location although a little remote is very picturesque. The steam train chunders past every now and then and can be seen most clearly in field 1 (where the camp shop is located).
There are plenty of cold water pipes dotted around the fields.
There are 2 blocks of 4 EHU's - Both in field 2.These are located in the middle of the field which has a noticeable slope to it, but not too severe. The edges of the field has better pitches (more shelter) but no EHU. The EHU's are first come, first served, they do not take reservations on them.
The site seems to attract mainly families with younger children and during our stay there were no noisy gangs of teenagers so the night times were quiet.
The shop supplies freeze blocks at £1 deposit and I think 20p or 30p per block, and has everything you need in there but is expensive. The nearest food/drink is Spar 1 mile towards Swanage, and another garage just after, or the Co-Op in Swanage is best for a bigger shop.
The site is cheap, and do not surcharge you for family tents - they charge per PERSON not per tent, at £5/night/adult, with £3/night extra for EHU.
I think we'll go back one day but I would like to try out some other sites in the area

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and found it to be a very nice place indeed. Toilets and showers are old but cleaned regularly and toilet roll always topped up. Lots of loos and showers although still a queue in the ladies between about 7-8.30 high season. There are 3 large fields to choose from just pitch where you want and pay when shop is open. Swanage steam railway runs right along the edge of the site (daytime only) and the passengers tend to wave to the campers, very friendly place. Lots of good places to eat etc.
Lots to do in the area could have easily stayed for 2 weeks, Swanage always seems to have good weather.

Stayed here twice, a nice simple site where you can pitch up & pay at your leisure. Toilets & showers were basic but clean, well stocked shop on site, safe for children. Very reasonable prices. You can get the steam train into Swanage which take about 10 mins, but you do have to walk across a few fields to the station, not fun coming back in the dark.

Many of the sites in this area are set within the purbeck hills, and tend to be quite (sometimes very) sloping. I'd suggest campers shortlist 2 or 3 and whizz around them before settling, it’s a relatively small area with many sites quite close together. Woodhyde itself has three adjoining fields; campsites 1 & 2 are mostly sloping with just a few more or less flat pitches. Campsite 3 is much better and has a lot of flat space. There are plenty of water points dotted around and the shower block is close by.
There are no playground facilities as such, just a swing of sorts in field 3 - it just has a manky old rope hanging from it, not a swing. However, this didn't seem to bother the children in the least, in fact it might be a blessing as there's no need for adult mediation around turns on things etc. The multitudinous kids (a popular family site) easily linked up and generally swarmed around the field keeping each other amused. Our 3 yr old loved it. From the parents perspective this was fantastic, it meant we could relax more and not worry that she was bored - and it also felt very safe, no dangerous areas to worry about - the site is maybe half a mile from the nearest tarmac road so no worries about straying etc.
Loos & showers; functional but dated, the paucity of washing up sinks is more of a problem than the too few showers. The owner seemed to be getting grief over these every time I went in to the shop but he says he has planning permission to build a new block and hopes to commence this coming winter. I won't repeat the cost he quoted but it was staggeringly expensive so bear this in mind before giving them a hard time; at £12.50 a night for the 3 of us, you can hardly expect luxury.
Shopping: campsite has a shop which does all the basics and a bit more, there's a spar about a mile down the road towards swanage, and a large coop supermarket in swanage itself, right beside the train station.
Bottom line: a very nice campsite so long as you're not looking for luxurious showers etc

My husband and I spent three nights at this campsite over the 11/12/13th July. Firstly I'll review the site, then the area.
We found it an excellent site with good facilities - plenty of toilets and 5 showers in the womens - hot water all day. They were cleaned daily and never ran out of toilet paper. There did seem to be only one dishwashing sink so for us two, we just put the kettle on & did the dishes in our tent. There are taps dotted around each field so no long hikes for water. We arrived on Thursday morning and it was lovely. It did get a lot lot busier on the weekend but still plenty of space and no overcrowding. The very well stocked shop
Was only open for two hours each day but a useful resource. The steam train is an added bonus and yes, we waved everytime.(why?!)
The area is absolutely stunning - close to all the key attractions - Monkey World, the Jurassic Coast, Studland Beach (be aware of the ruthless NT £6 parking fee, even if you only stay for an hour!), Swanage, Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door. Corfe Castle (I recommend the Greyhound for food) and Kingston (the Scot's Arms pub garden has the biggest views and a nice pool table) are only 20 minute walk away.
We will return and soon I hope!

Just returned from a three night stay at this site (family of four with 2 under 4 year olds). We found it by mistake as the site we were going to use just down the road was shut without any notice.
This is a great site for families, we arrived mid day on Friday to more or less have the site to ourselves to pitch up. The site did fill up later on Friday and again Saturday when it was pretty busy but did not feel overcrowded, Sunday evenning was bliss and when we left on Monday was virtually empty again.
Great location and surrounding area with fantastic country pubs within a 20 minute radius if you explore the country lanes, studland beach within a 10 min drive.
Now to the toilets. They are what you would expect for the ammount that the site charges. Functional. Water pressure, well there is gravity and hot water, yes as long as you are not last in line. A major difference between Saturday mornings and Monday monrning!
But kept very clean, would be a fantastic site if they could update them, three showers for a 13 acre site is pushing it a bit.
Give it a go.

We have just returned from a weekend at Woodyhyde and will definitely be returning. The site itself is in a beautiful setting and consists of three large fields (field no.3 no dogs). Facilities are not plentiful, but if you like what I feel is 'real camping' then you will find them perfectly adequate. Hot water is an issue when the site is busy, but it obviousaly doesn't put too many people off as the site was busy without being overcrowded in any way. Turn up and pitch wherever you like and pay in the shop, which is open from 9.00-10.00am and 5.00-6.00pm. At £13.00 a night for our family of four (tent and day tent / gazebo), I thought it was very reasonably priced. The old Swanage railway line runs adjacent to the site and was an added bonus for my train mad children - lovely to see the steam train chuffing past! So much to see in Dorset of course; we visited Lulworth Cove and Corfe Castle (on the old railway line). This really was camping as I love it. The atmosphere on site was relaxed but with plenty of children having lots of fun! People respected the quiet after 10.30pm rule and I would say it was pretty quiet by 11.00pm each night. Looking forward to our next visit!

The owner has finally spent some money on the toilet block much better, even his mood seems to have improved. Perhaps he should spend some more of his money on the site. Still the best site in the area and still the cheapest.

This site has become an old favourite of mine over the years. Have been here many times with my friends and it has always been a pleasant experience. This site is situated in the heart of the Purbeck peninsula and close to the quaint village of Corfe Castle.
My most recent trip was over the May bank holiday which meant the site was pretty busy but not uncomfortably so. I imagine there is a queue in the mornings for the 2 showers, however I haven't experienced this as I usually shower at night when camping. Toilet blocks could do with updating but not worth whinging about.
The atmosphere here on a nice evening is truly electric yet very chilled. Groups of friends in harmony with families enjoy quiet relaxing evenings watching the steam train go past. I noticed a few fires going in containers, which were still there after people departed so I presume these are provided by the campsite, must enquire next trip!
My only gripes with this site are that it needs a bigger and refurbished shower block and a lot more electrial hook ups. That said, this is no reason not to go there as I love this place and will continue to return. Someone on here complained about the 'surley shop keeper' - he's actually quite friendly if you chat to him!
There is a Somerfield in Swanage for essentials, however I would recommend trying local food from the Butchers in Swanage. The Purbeck Deli in Swanage sells some excellent cheese, jams and more, all in close proximity in the town centre so you really can shop the old fashioned way and eat real food. If you can't be bothered to cook there is an excellent Fish & Chip shop and Tandoori Resturant/Takeaway next to each other right off the main road on entering the town.
I highly recommend this site to both groups and families (although no kids playground). There always seems to be a pleasant ethos here. And the area feels so far away yet so close to Central England. Fantastic!

Just returned from a two night stay at this site. Im not sure if the wash block has been renovated since last season but it seemed pretty good to me. It was helped by the site being pretty much empty which meant that the once a day cleaning was more than enough (with the exception of grass cuttings as the field had just been cut). Only one sink to wash up in was a bit tight considering there could potentially be 3 fields full of campers.
My major complaint was the shop, ok the site was pretty empty, but there was no basic fresh items that I saw (milk, bread etc). Also it didn't even stick to its minimum opening hours. On sunday morning it was supposed to be open 9am till 10am. We had a rather nasty storm around 9am which caused many of the campers to pack up and go early. I waited till the rain subsided to go over to the shop (around 9.45) and the place was shut so had to drive to a local Spar.
