August 2004 Very busy period on the site and the toilets struggled to cope with the numbers. The new shop is a good addition sellig a variety of goods. I have been coming to this site now for 15 years. The passing steam train is a very nice feature of the site. Plenty to do in the Town center - if you enjoy fishing then the Swanage pier is a very good spot for garfish and mackeral. Beaches are busy so go early to get a good spot. Many car parks towards Studland are National Trust so being a member will save you money

August 2004 Just got back from this site although we had a great pitch the showers and toilet block leave alot to be desired and the gue seemed to get longer everyday for the one washup sink. One shower block for 3 fields and 160 pitches is just not good enough and only three showers in the mens with the middle one too small to move in.

August 2004 The location is fabulous because the area is beautiful and there is so much to do: Corfe Castle, Studland Beach, Putlakes Farm, Tank Museum and Monkey World. You can walk from the campsite to Harman's Cross to catch the Swanage steam train or walk up the hill to enjoy the stunning views of the Scott Arms in Kingston. There was plenty of room in the 3 big fields during August mid-week. The shop has all the basics and is open for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. The only thing that lets this campsite down is the toilet block which was tiled and painted by the least skilled labour available. It is not cleaned often, floods regularly, has only 1 washing up sink (outside) and no dryer points. There are only 2 mirrors in the gents toilets which means that you queue to shave rather than shower. However, it does have plenty of free hot water.

August 2004 A lovely site, lovely scenery!! Showers ok, wouldn't expect much more camping. Will visit again, only a two field walk to get on the steam train and clearly signposted for a field walk to Corfe Castle.

Whitsun (June) 04 We have just returned from a lovely break at this site and we were more than impressed. Although the site was quite busy due to it being half-term week, we had a lovely spot with plenty of room. There is cold water on tap all over the site, so no having to lug a water butt across the site... just pop over to the tap and fill the kettle, saucepan.. etc!
There are lots of comments here about the toilet, shower block.... and yes, it is in need of a coat of paint and a good clean to remove the overhead cobwebs, but as for the general state of them.... in all honesty we were quite amazed at the state some people left them in. If everyone left the toilets the way they would like to find them, there really would be no problem!
This is a great site and we will definitely be returning!!

August 2003 This campsite is situated in a very pretty location just outside Corfe. Corfe Castle is a pretty amazing sight - well worth a look! The steam train passes along side the campsite several times a day which is great - especially as it is during sociable hours!
They have a small reception/shop which opens for an hour in the morning and an hour in early evening. They sell the essentials - disposable BBQs/milk/eggs/bacon etc and will rent out ice blocks for a small fee.
There are 3 fields (one of which welcomes dogs). Great there's lots of space to set up, but only one shower/toilet block to cater for the whole site! To be more specific, this equates to 5 showers in the ladies and 3 in the gents I believe. This is I can handle but the facilities are not kept very clean and the ceiling is covered in cobwebs. If you don't mind spiders and dead moths however, you'll be fine.
I'm sure this site has a lot of potential, unfortunately the shower block facilities really need some modernisation and lick of paint! I'm afraid this really does let the site down!! Definitely a 2 star site.
However, anyone planning to visit in and around Corfe/Swanage - it's a beautiful area!

Early August '03 Just read some of the other reviews regarding Woody Hyde posted here. We went peak time in august 2003 (it was also the week when the weather went tropical and britain melted! what better place to be than by the sea - Studland beach - one of the nicest in England only 5 miles from this site)
Yes the site was busy (especially at the weekends)
Yes there were signs on the gate that were flagrantly ignored by some climbing group/gathering that seemed to descend upon it (it was indeed TOO busy the saturday we left) but having said that we had a lovely week camping here!
To be fair, the problems described by other reviewers here are ones you'll find on most popular campsites during summer months. The unrestictive attitude of the owners (pitch where you like, take as much space as you like) is bound to cause some occasional friction - simply set your stall out with as much room as you'd like first (This is where the windbreaks come in handy!) and just remind yourself of those holed up in some high-rise nightmare hotel cum building site in benidorm at this point and a wry chuckle to yourself is sure to break your mood!
Field 3 seems to be the popular one for those with Kids (its where the swings are) the other 2 fields seem less raucous - the only noise we heard after 11pm was the late-comers on the friday night pitching up.
Its true - the shower/loo situation needs improvement - they were queing out the door on our last day (3 showers for 3 fields is not good enough really is it?) but again - pick your moment and theyre really ok.
The Shop is open 8-9am and 5-6pm - they sell the basics and you pay for your pitch here (They seem ok for you to pay day by day too). The owner seems a bit aloof and unfriendly but you dont come here to marvel at his wit and repartee do you? :-)
It really is a nice relaxed well placed campsite - despite all the above we'll be there again next year! (if marks out of 10 were the order of the day Woodyhyde would get 7 points from us) Happy Camping!

August 2003 Nice location with the steam railway running along the perimeter.
It was nice and cheap - family ticket £9 per night (2 Adults & 2 Children).
Small but good shop, fields are on a slope.
Overall, a good site but would be cracking if the toilet/shower block was rebuilt larger and kept clean.
