Definitely the best site in the area and this is reflected by its popularity.

Never had a problem with the facilities - the odd cobweb adds to it's rustic appeal.

Brilliant shop that opens in the morning for 1 hour plus and in the late afternoon.

Very reasonable rates and ideally located for exploring the superb Purbeck countyside.

Do site owners actually read these reviews? I hope so, because this site needs to take some action.

I agree with all the other reviews - this is a lovely site, in a great setting (steam trains and all), close to Swanage and Corfe by car (or steam train) and all of their amenities. But it is let down by barely adequate toilets and inadequate showers (cleaned daily by contractors) and by the surly shopkeeper.

It would not take much to make this site really good, just a bit of personal attention and a new toilet block - it is a large site, full of campers, so would not take much of their profits. I can't help feeling this is really a farm - and that we are the ones being milked.

I probably will not visit again since there are many other sites around that are just that bit better run.

There's a theme running through these reviews - perhaps the proprietor will take action. We enjoyed the relaxed family atmosphere, the passing trains, our boys played happily, the noise wasn't excessive and the sloping pitch was reasonable. The toilets are a disgrace: there are too few, too old and far, far too filthy. If they really were cleaned, the overwhelming number of users made them dirty again before I noticed. I didn't bother queuing for the shower as I wasn't convinced one could get clean in that building. Please invest in a modern toilet block and we will come back

We stayed here for 4 nights. It is quite a large site with 3 fields, one of which is no dogs. There are 8 EHUs available on a 1st come, 1st served basis. The site does not allow caravans so it is mostly tents and a few small motor homes. The shop stops the basics in terms of food as well as a good range of camping goods although opening hours are limited.

There is only 1 toilet block with about 5 showers in the ladies and a couple in the gents. When we were there, there must have been 100+ tents so the toilet block comes under a lot of pressure. This results in them becoming very dirty, and lacking hot water. Although this is a basic site, the toilets are below the standard I have seen at similar sites. They were also smelly on occasions, we were pitched close by as that's where the EHUs are and experienced a strong sewerage smell the 1st day although it wore off later.

Although it was a busy site, it does have a no noise after 10 rule, which seemed to be observed when we were there.

It is a 45-50 minute walk into Corfe which is mainly on footpaths. Corfe has several pubs as well as a butcher, baker and general store. There is a small supermarket in Swanage plus numerous other shops. The little steam train runs from Swanage to just the other side of Corfe and the station at Harman's Cross is about 15 minutes walk which is quite convenient if you want to go into Swanage in the evening. There is also a good taxi firm based in Corfe who come out to you very quickly. The number is posted in the shop window.

The local area is lovely with stunning views. Corfe Castle, Studland bay, Durdle Door, Poole Harbour and in fact all of the coast is well worth visiting. There are many footpaths in the area, some of which start directly from the campsite.

All in all, this was just a field.
The toilet blocks were very basic and the hot water non existent.
The Children's playground had closed due to their not being adequate health and safety in place The shop is only open for an hour twice a day, very inconvenient.

We booked this site thinking the comments about the shower/toilet facilities could not be that bad, we have stayed on very basic sites before and they would not be a problem.
Well we were wrong, the Toilet/Shower, although it was closed for 2 hours each day for cleaning it looked no cleaner immediately after! Other reviewers have talked about it needing a facelift, they are wrong it needs to be knocked down and replaced.
The shop is only open for 2 hours a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, apart from when the shop is open there is no one on the site to contact.
Now for the positives:
The site is large and for the most part pretty flat
There are no marked pitches so you just find a space to set up camp
The site is well positioned, less than 2 miles from Korfe Castle and only 4 miles from Swanage.
In summary, well positioned and with great potential to be a really good campsite, but until those facilities are improved I would not consider going back.

Just returned from a week long stay here and it was great. The weather wasn't so great - but hey, this is the UK!

Three big fields to choose from - we stayed in the middle field.  Plenty of stand pipes. The steam train is pretty cool to see and hear pass by. What is it about waving to and from passing trains?! :¬)

My advice for campers new to the site - don't pitch up within 50 yards of the toilet block - the sewerage stink is terrible at times! Remember to take some flip flops for showering in - of course the showers get muddy and messy by the morning, but let's remember - they are free after all, so no complaining! Hot showers are only going to be found after the morning rush, be warned - in the morning your queueing will be rewarded with a cold shower. There is only one wash up point for the whole site, so to avoid queueing at peak times, just boil some water up yourself and wash up at your tent. A lot quicker I am sure.

The shop is only open for an hour or so in the morning 9 - 10am, and an hour or so at teatime 5 - 6pm. Easily missed if you're not on the ball! We were able to arrive, pitch up and pay the next day though - so no problem.

We had great, friendly neighbours the majority of the time, only marred by a few unreasonably noisy visitors on the Bank Holiday weekend - to be expected I suppose - but all the other campers and families we encountered were great. I wish my neighbours were like that at home!

Jug and Compass worth a visit - try their Cornish Pasties - but if you walk via the bridlepath which takes you left past the lower field, take care as it is a nightmare. Take a torch if you are returning after dark as there are plenty of stones and obstacles to trip over. Brambles. Nettles. Not especially recommended for mountain bikes ;¬) There were Hazel trees though which was a good discovery, spotting the Hazelnuts.

Do go to Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door - beautiful places worth a repeat visit. Dorset really is a beautiful county which can be explored again and again, still leaving unfinished territory.

You can take a twenty minute walk across the back fields to the Harman's Cross station to catch the train. Not at all unpleasant!

I feel sure we will return next year for more than likely a longer stay, as the Dorset coastline in particular is somewhere I want to return to. Woodyhyde is not a fancy campsite but is fully adequate, accommodating, pleasant and most importantly for us - affordable.

Thanks to Woodyhyde, and our neighbouring campers for giving us a lovely base to stay on and enjoy our relished break by the south coast! See you next year :¬)

A disappointment partly from the lack of adequate facilities and partly other visitors' behaviour; footballs kicked against tents repeatedly, large parties and loud drum 'music'.
The toilet washing block is a disgrace, with the hygiene standards of farmers. Neither the men's or women's have been cleaned properly for decades, despite being closed every morning 'for cleaning', and a number of people stayed one night and departed next day because of this. Fossilised spiders and webs on walls and ceiling testify to this. To have been just adequate there should have been a toilet block of this size for each of the three fields, but this one served all three.
If you weren't early in the morning, the water was cold or at best lukewarm, and pop up taps are a mean touch to save water when increasing the amount is what's needed. The toilets stank and were so narrow you couldn't use them without constant banging into walls.
The washing up sink was outside and had a queue most times. No washing, ironing or drying facilities, and the shop was only open for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. The fact that it had a large stock of several diarrhea medicines may indicate something about the hygiene already mentioned.
The access road was rough and uneven, and holes were being filled in all week, like work in progress, giving the approach an air of a building site. Most of the available land slopes. No set pitches, which meant you could choose where you pitched, but there was always the possibility someone would set up inches from you, close enough to hear their snoring. The steam/diesel train goes past every half hour and this continues until past eleven at night.

We actually booked this by accident but it turned out to be such a joy! We stayed for a week and would have stayed longer if we could! The site was full when we arrived, but there was lots of room for our tents and 2 cars. There is plenty of water taps on the very large field 2 where we were and the views were stunning!

The steam train goes past about every hour or so during the day and into the early evening, but it not a nuisance, it actually adds to the fantastic views and atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and you get used to the camp shop only being open for 2 hours a day (9-10am, then 5-6pm)

The only thing that really spoilt this ideal holiday was the toilets and showers. I know that campsite loos and showers are generally basic, but these were quite bad. They were cleaned between 12-2pm but they were full of mud, grass and Victorian pipework! They were also full of cobwebs and spiders.Sometimes the little'ns were quite put off & were quite frightened by these. It wouldn't take much money to make these a little better, even a bucket and mop for everyone to clean up the excess water before they left the block would be a small improvement.

The area is great, the beach is about 15 minutes in a car and there is also Corfe Castle and the little chocolate box village of Wareham. The Bankes Arms pub, right next to Corfe Castle is great for food and is friendly. They have an outside seating area and huge garden with play area for the kids. Well recommended.
We would def go back to Woodyhyde, once they've improved the loos and showers.

I Ended up staying here by chance when I joined some friends during there stay here for 7days.
We had 4 tents and 2 cars.
Lovely tranquil spot to relax without being to close to the other campers, plenty of room to play softball tennis or a spot of football. Local steam train goes past every hour roughly but only during the daytime, quite a joy to watch! Everybody was really friendly.
The washing up facilities need attention, its one of these push down taps which makes your hand get scolded if you hold it down, so watch out, but unfortunately only a trickle of water but steaming hot, to fill an average sized washing up bowl took forever, this in turn held up other people. This is my only gripe though. I would like to return again as I like this place.
Showers are basic but aren't most in camping sites.

For all you who don't know there is a nice pub over the hill and down the lane, this is a 3 mile trek and not for the faint hearted. They offered live music on 2 occasions I was there.
If your walking you can pick up the bridle path at the top field, follow this to the very top of the hill where you will come out onto a quiet country road. Cross the road and walk down the t-junction road *(No Path), its just past the car park on the left.
The pub is called The Square & Compass at a place called Worth Matravers. BH19 3LF.
If your going by car, come out the campsite onto main road, turn left, then 1st left then 1st right, you will find the carpark on the right before the pub. If your walking at night, take a few torches with you, ours nearly ran out and there good for letting cars know your walking on the side of the road. Very friendly place with good beer!
