Booked a 3 night stay at a supposedly quiet site. Very noisy from arrival.

Excessive noise from camping group from arrival. 2nd day group excessively noise again, along with their dog constantly barking. Campervan arriving in front of us at 11:15 pm. Camping group again partying until 2 am. Not able to contact warden as phone rang then was unavailable. Then building work started at 7a,.

Decided not to stay the 3rd night, tried reception, no one came. On leaving say someone, explained that we were leaving early due to noise.

Asked for a refund for 3rd night, told to contact Glentrool. Filled in Glentrool stay questionnaire, explained everything asked for refund, haven't even had a reply. Really bad customer care.

Would never go back or recommend.

This is a very clean, well set out, modern Site. The owners have obviously invested in facilities like toilets, showers, food prep/dishwashing and a laundry as well as the bothy which provides shelter to campers. Unsurprisingly then maybe, it felt at 35pounds/night that the cost was a a bit high.

Newton Stewart is about 10-12 miles away and the nearest pub/restaurant, House O Hill, is now closed so it will be necessary to make sure you are well supplied if you plan to stay for a while.

There is a Cafe in Glen Trool Village which is a short walk along the 'Kindness path' from the Site.

There is plenty to do in terms of walking, BMX and sightseeing round Glen Trool. This is a lovely area and still quite quiet and unspoilt.

TV reception is non existent without a Satellite Dish and Wifi was only working near the Reception area.

Awesome site, very well laid out and good sheltered areas.

Site was very well maintained and the facilities were spotless

Peaceful and quiet and loved the ducks waddling around

We booked this site through Pitch up, on arrival, reception was closed but there was a number to phone and we were directed to pitch 3.

The warden Joseph came round later to meet us and accept payment and answer any questions.

The pitches are all hardstanding and very large, ours was divided by hedges. This is a small site with only 12 touring pitches.

There are many statics in a separate area.

The toilet block is kept very clean, with 2 showers, toilets and sinks.

The site is isolated but close to Glentrool village with a community Cafe, the Hive.

There are endless great walks Immediately from the site in stunning landscapes and the Glentrool visitor centre, also with lovely cafe, is 15 minutes walk through the forest.

This site is in the incredible dark skies area and it is very starry.

There is a frequent bus service from Glentrool village to Newton Stewart and Girvan.

We would stay again.

The site is tidy, staff friendly and facilities super clean. Close enough to Glen Trool visitor centre to cycle there.

However, they are not really set up for tent campers with cars. There's not much space in the grassed areas for tents and if you have a car you have to return it to a car park up to 100m from the tent. Quite inconvenient if you're not expecting it.

Also poor value for a solo traveller with car. £23 per night. I usually pay about £12 and get more for the money.

If you're travelling on foot or by bike it's cheaper as well as more convenient.

So all in all a mixed bag.

There is a lot of gravel so if you need hard standing for your RV it could be a good choice.

A lovely friendly site, very welcoming and the 2 young men couldn’t be more polite and helpful.

They supplied a map of the area to show walks and the local pub

Stayed on jubilee weekend on pitch 6 which was a very good size for our large caravan, this was a very busy weekend and the tent area seemed very busy but everyone we spoke to was very happy.

Lovely clean toilet and shower block, some of the hard standing pitches did seem more suited to small campers but we couldn’t complain

Would definitely return and recommend ! Was very busy and hustle and bustle with kids during the day but very quiet at night very dark so don’t forget your torch

All in all amazing and don’t forget to look up at the sky!

Van/ motorhome area is entirely granite chippings; campers have a field with a pond away from car parking. Dark sky area away from site lights, possibility of midges (take a net).

WCs and included showers good and clean. Basecamp hut with m/w and kettle for campers to use if inclement.

Small shop in friendly reception.

Pub nearby only open Thursday to Sunday eves; booking advisable.

Good walking and biking in the Glentool forest/ 7 stanes. Concession path to forest info centre/cafe.

The site did not look as it is advertised, much smaller and less open feeling. Our pitch was close to our neighbours.

However facilities were ok ( apart from annoying piped music ! ) and it was ok for the one night.

Best thing about this site is it's situation as a base for walking / cycling in neighbouring countryside.

There is a pub 5-10 minutes walk away but it was closed on the night we stayed (Tuesday) unfortunately, shame as it has very good reviews.

Short drive to the start of a walk to Southern Scotland's highest peak, Merrick.

Great to be in the dark sky park and the stars were amazing.

Campsite is very close to a road with road noise during the night (although it does make it easy to find!).

I’m a bit late with this review, but better late than never…

This is campsite I’ll definitely be revisiting in 2022, it has the perfect balance of a quiet out of the way location with the essential amenities - loo’s, showers, kitchen area and firewood 👍

While I was there on my own there were plenty of other campers on site, some with kids, who all seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely.

Plenty of level areas to pitch on without feeling crowded out, lovely atmosphere and a very warm welcome from the campsite hosts.

Simply put, an outstanding campsite!
