Arrived later than we thought due to me leaving the caravan cable attached to the car with the fridge running doh in Girvan thankfully the aa were on call. Very helpful assistance when we got there we were shown where all the facilities were then shown our pitch. We were also told that if we needed anything just to go and knock on the door if the shop wasn't open.
It has a small playground but would be best suited to kids from about four yrs old. Very clean campsite and all facilities kept clean and tidy.
The surrounding area is excellent if you are into walking, beautiful scenery, sightseeing, cycling or mountain biking. Local area is pretty sparce however Newton Stewart is only 8 miles away plenty of locally run shops, sainsburys and a lidl might be aldi didn't go in. House of the Hill hotel just down the road never made it in there due to having a small child but everytime we passed there was always lots of cars parked outside.
All in all a very nice site if you want to get away from it all. Not for anyone who is looking for party time weekend.

Not our first visit to this site. We usually go to this site when we want away from it all for some peace and quiet. Lovely area for walks and wildlife. Always plenty of hot water for a shower, a nice shop which sells essentials and very helpful owners who go out of their way to help. House O the Hill pub 5 mins down the road, nice for a quiet drink and a bite to eat. This site is well worth a visit if you want to get away from it all. Watch out for midges in the high season though,,there is no getting away from them, even with every repellent applied.

We turned up with no bookings and were made extremely welcome by Chris. Hardstanding welcome as the weather had turned a bit wet.
Showers immaculately clean - but water pressure is a bit low so more of a trickle than a blast in the showers.
Site was kept beatifully, pond at the end where tents pitch was simply stunning.
Right in the heart of Dumfries and literally 2 minutes into the forest. Plenty of walks and bike tracks to explore.
Newton Stewart quiet but has all you need, and lovely river runs through it worth the visit to see that alone.
All in all a really good site - we would recommend and hope to visit again soon.

This site is run by a fab lady called Chris. We stayed here for a one night stay on our way to western Scotland. For me It was an ok site that is in need for updating, but if you're into walking then its ideal. We did have problems with our electric, but since we stayed only for one night, it made no difference to us. There are not a lot of shops near by really, nearest supermarket was asda in girvan. Again nice lady, but I won't be hurrying back.

Our first time away with our first caravan and loved it.
Lovely get away from it all site, has small shop on-site and pub, just 5 mins walk away. Hard standing for tourers. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we can recommend to everyone. There is amazing scenery and bird sanctuary within easy drive. Newton Stewart is 10 - 15 mins away by car.
Nice place to get away from it all.

We've just enjoyed a fabulous Easter weekend at this site, which was surprisingly quiet given the bank holiday.
When we arrived on the Thursday evening there was only one other tent and we opted to pitch next to the pond, which was a great move. It was a very tranquil place to be and we even heard frogs from the pond at night - the only sound we could hear apart from the odd owl.
The only down side was the women's showers were pretty chilly, but at least they were free and the men's were apparently okay. This wasn't enough to spoil a really enjoyable weekend.
This was our first visit to Galloway and we will definitely be returning. It was refreshing to get away from the crowds that swarm the Lakes and still be able to enjoy some decent hill walking. It's also the most cyclist-friendly place we've been to and we'll be back for more riding.

We were actually pitched here for the full season last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is some traffic noise from the road outside but it's not intrusive and you're more likely to hear birdsong than anything else.
You'll get a warm welcome from owners Mick and Chris and they'll do their best to make sure you get the best from your stay. Showers and toilets are basic but owner Chris keeps them immaculately clean so no complaints there.
The shop in reception has most essentials otherwise Newton Stewart has supermarkets and friendly, specialist stores.
Being in the Galloway Forest is brilliant though it's best to head along to the shop / tearoom in the Forest itself for the start of walks / cycle tracks for all abilities. Can highly recommend the tea room - the toasties are brilliant at the end of a good forest walk!
Midgies can be a problem depending on the time of year and the weather so don't forget your bug spray but please don't let them put you off visiting - you won't regret it.
Highly recommended and we'll definitely visit again!

Although we were only at the site for 3 days, 2 nights, it was a lovely area surrounded by forest, but easy to get to. The park itself was immaculate and clean. The toilets and showers, washing areas etc. all very good. There are towns and coastal areas all within easy driving distance. I`ll definitely go again

We had lovely weekend at Glentrool, ¾ mile turn left from the site is Glentrool forest with visitor centre and tea room, lots of cycle routes and forest walks range from 1 ½ miles to 5 – 6 miles, ½ mile turn right is local pub serve nice bar meal, ten pounds will get you two courses.
Toilets block’s key pad is very small not very easy to see, clean shower and never get busy when we staying, switch the shower on first thing when you get in before getting undress so the water will be warm, only 10p for hair dryer.
It’s a very peaceful and well maintain site, will go back again.

May 2005 My partner and myself and border collie visted this site in May 2005. The welcome was very warm and friendly and helpful. The area is lovely and quiet with stunning views and walks. The site area was spotless with good showers and toilets. All very very clean and fresh. There is a small friendly pub nearby that served good food and our dog was welcome inside too which was great. The only down side at Glen Trool was the midgets - when we went they were rife but I was assured by a local it was because of the time of year. Midgets aside the site was great well worth a vist for a quiet restful break and to view the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland
